The bottom line is that the base rifle is as reliable and accurate as any AR in the business. Just today, I put 25 at 25 yards inside a half dolar with a pure stock rifle. My red dot was also stock. The bells and whistles do nothing to improve accuracy or reliability. This base rifle rocks.
I didn’t know what to look for in my first (and only) AR style rifle. I went with the M&P, not only because it was on sale, but I also have other S&W firearms that I really like and trust. My biggest gripe was the first time I got to shoot it, the standard butt stock ground into my shoulder as it is hard plastic with no padding. (Mild weather, I only had on a tshirt.) Otherwise it is a solid performer. The guy with me had a Saint, and he like the M&P also. The Saint just had a few upgrades.
@@Pressingontoperfection the factory stock has very rough texturing, and I only had on a tshirt. And yeah it was my first time with an AR. The Saint had a rubber pad and was much more comfortable to shoot, even though they were very similar.
@@christopherhamilton5557 but…AR-15’s don’t really recoil. That’s the basic mil spec AR stock. If you’re pressing it into your shoulder properly you shouldn’t notice it. But also swap it out because it’s ugly lol
@@thafoehammer143 it was uncomfortable, especially compared to the one with the rubber pad.
@@christopherhamilton5557 I mean I have one too and I changed it out but not because of recoil. I changed it because it’s cheap and ugly. Have you shot a 30-06 or a pump 12 gauge before? Guns like that make the AR seem really tame.

As a budget setup, recommend going to your trusted gun store. See if the gunsmith has any like new spare parts they will sell for discount. Built my m&p with a sig MRS red dot, mag pul stock, MOE hand grip, mag pul RVG grip, mlok free floating hand guard, H3 buffer, areo precision upper with a copper nickel boron finish to top it off. Final build price? $1,053! Would be over 2k if I sourced parts from manufacturers.
I've been watching a few videos this week on the M&P15 series, your video is very informative. I bought an M&PI5 in 2010, probably one of the first models, has no dust cover. No bells or whistles on it since I was trained to shoot iron sights by D.I.'s that were 'Nam Vets and I grew up using only iron sights. The silencer makes a lot of sense, because it is loud. Long, slender hand guard, I like that idea too. Bought it because I'm a huge 2A supporter and see the need coming every day. It's been a good rifle at the range, never any issues with it. Money well spent IMHO.
Had my M&P for 5 years about 5k rounds thru it mostly metal ammo still running smooth a lot of good mods out there for it nice setup 🤙🏽

Great video! This is my first AR rifle, I got the optic ready version with the magpul hand guard, I have put the magpul grip and stock on it as well. Vortex sparc 2, and Im putting the sure fire war comp flash hider with breek warhammer mod 2 ambi charging handle. The next upgrade is going to be the lantac enhance bcg. I love the building process and making it for me! I like to see what other people have done and I like the upgrades you have done!
Did you have to adjust the gas block to install that hand guard?

I think this rifle comes standard with a 1/9 twist and a carbine length gas system.
I priced this out at $3,960. I don’t know much about the AR market but I feel like I could do a lot better than a M&P sport ll for this kind of money. That being said, looks like a great rifle.

Hey newcomer to firearms and just got an M&P15 Sport 2. What did you do to allow the scope on top and the dot to the side? I really like that setup!
Put a Geissele SSP trigger, m42 buffer spring and a Troy hand guard on mine. Definitely shoots better and looks better!

Beginner Rifle? It Seems To Do The Same Job As It's More Expensive Counterparts! In Iraqveteran8888's Meltdown Video And A Few Others, It Did Better Than Quite A Few Pricier AR Rifles! The Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport Two Will Save Your Life In Self Defense Situations Just As Well As So Called Top Tier Rifles! Period!

I know this is probably a late comment for you, after a year out, but I would like an explanation if it is better to upgrade the upper that comes with the m&p 15 or to get a new upper. As a California resident, my goal is to make the survivalists rifle from fallout new Vegas.

@@jameslee522he clearly said original. I have heard of 1:9 standard but as you go up in price you’ll see the 1:8 and the 1:7 milspec.

Did the gas block have to be changed to accommodate the longer handguard?
Did you cut the A2 front sight and just put a free float hand guard???
The mp 15 is about $700.
The upgrades cost more than the rifle. Might as well look for a good $1500 rifle that works perfectly with even more features.
For those of us that bought one of these on a budget years ago but are now looking to upgrade, this is a great source of info. No sense in me spending 1500 on a new rifle when I can spend half to upgrade this one to something I enjoy just as much.
What hand guard length did you use? Part number?

The new website is awful. There wasn't anything wrong with the old one other than things slowly coming back in stock. This "upgraded" site is an absolute mess and it's near-impossible to navigate. I miss the old site that actually worked.
Yeah and the new site doesn’t show your order you made two months ago that they haven’t shipped yet. You have to go to their legacy site to view that. *edit-now 3 months

@@billylove7008 Well I think I'm about there with you now if I wasn't before. I tried ordering two separate rifles and that they claimed were in stock just for them to email me a day later on each to tell me that they're having website issues and in fact don't have those in stock. But don't worry, I just need to use the "notify me when in stock" button because it worked so well in the past 🙄

Looks great, but I think I would just look for a different rifle with all the goodies, they're out there. I'm not someone that likes tinkering with them.

I can’t buy any of these accessories he has on this rifle?? I’m in California and I have 2 choices mp15 2 or Springfield saint victor. I heard the Springfield hand guard gets hot after a few mags. I’m looking to build up a m&p bit of I can’t get any of these accessories wats the point. I can’t have a suppressor or the muzzle break? Wats about a retractable stock of featureless? Any recommendations would help thanks.
Sure you can, you just have to do what the criminals do in California, and get it off the streets, because California is all about stripping power away from the hard working law abiding citizen, and giving it to criminals

I know I’m late to the party but I had a question about the Midwest industries handguard you’re running. I have a sport 2 and want to get that handguard but MWI says they aren’t compatible with gas piston rifles. How’s you get yours to work?
You need to put on a “low profile” gas block. You can’t put on the hand guard he has on without Changing the iron site gas block. I they have free floats that have cutouts for Those iron site gas blocks

I don't think he could've. It comes with a A2 sight which has the gas block in it. Not sure that he went over his gas block.
He definitely changed it as he has a free float guard. He didn’t go over the gas system only about the extra pressure due to the suppressor.
Simple mid-length gas tube and block is what he used. I did the same thing to mine as I didn’t like the post.
