"We're Paratroopers, lieutenant! We're supposed to be surrounded!"
"Wait, we're going down *there?* Into the trenches?!"
"Of course we are! We're Airborne!"
Imagine all that training just to get shot before hitting the ground
I just learned today my Great Grandfather was a paratrooper, he was shot in the face while descending, it fractured his jaw and he had to get false teeth and the whole lower half of his jaw replaced. It’s actually the reason why I’m watching this video today!
@Adolf Shitler tell that to all the 101st, 82nd airborne and 505th WW2 vets who may disagree with you
"Airborne, hope jerry don't mind us dropping in"
“We´re airborne, we´re meant to be surrounded!”
One of my neighbors was a paratrooper in WW2 in the invasion of Sicily!
I recommend watching Band of Brothers if you are interested in learning more about paratroopers, how they trained and the different scenarios they faced. 10/10 mini series
band of brothers was a great series ive watched it about 5 times hahaha n will watch it again !!!!!!!!1
Especially because the band of brothers mini series is based on the actual events, and is made pretty realistically
“That dust on your jump wings? How do you expect to slay the Huns with dust on your jump wings?!”
Outstanding, former paratrooper from the 82nd, 504th P.I.R. love your videos, keep up the good work.
honda197056 Thanks for your service, Brother in arms.

honda197056 you’re a fake but I was in the 82nd airborne in desert storm in 1991
I’m very proud to be a former paratrooper.

biggreenleaf paratroopers in battles can distract the enemy while the main force pushes so it covers the main force.
He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright
He checked up his equipment and made sure his pack was tight
He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar
You ain't gonna jump no more
Is everybody happy cried the sergeant looking up
Our hero feebly answered yes and then they stood him up
He jumped into the icy blast his static line unhooked
He ain't gonna jump no more
Anancy-9 He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the shock,
He felt the wind, he felt the cold, he felt the awful drop,
The silk from his reserves spilled out, and wrapped around his legs,
And he ain't gonna jump no more
*There was blood upon the risers there were brains upon the chute. Intestines were a-dangling from his paratrooper suit.*
The thing that makes paratroopers so fascinating is that It was such a dangerous job. If you've ever watched band of brothers there is so much fear in their eyes when they drop. They remind me of the stormtroopers of world war 1 because they were camouflaged and rushed the enemy lines.
The reason why they received extra pay was because they were much less likely to survive
Have you seen Band of Brothers?
I have, its the most accurate paratrooper mini series, and one of the most accurate WWII productions, I recommend watching the whole series, 10/10
Fun fact: The M1 Carbine (A favorite of paratroopers) was the most manufactured gun of WW2
Same here, I like the full stock version but the M1A1 was famous in WWII through its use in Europe.
my grandfather almost drowned because of all that extra gear
Regular Army guy: "We are about to be surrounded!" Airborne guy: "We are supposed to be surrounded."
airborne guy? You mean Major Richard Winters.. come on bro Easy Company 506th PIR 101st Airborne
I’m Australian but i love the Band of brothers mini series, my farther knew this and for Christmas actually bought me a one of the prop para trooper helmets from the filming of Band Of Brothers. Loved the video simple history.
Me too but I have my dads Vietnam era m1 helmet (he didn’t fight in Vietnam it was his training helmet they had left overs from Vietnam)
I’m American but my grandpa was a Luftwaffe pilot for Germany in WW2 he recalls fighting the Americans over France and seeing paratroopers after the war he left Germany in fear of being taken by the Russians and moved to the USA in 1949 good video respect to the US paratroopers
@@DZ477 the majority of the german military knew what was happening bro lol
When they started listing equipment I heard Joe Toye listing of his stuff. “This bullshit, and pair of nasty mittens”
Actually, he said a pair of nasty 'skivies' (boxer shorts). Joe Toye probably prefered a pair of tighty whities to keep the boys in place while jumping out of the airplane 😁
"Where are you gonna keep your brass knuckles?" "I could use some brass knuckles".
@@imperialguardsman8088 He did though. Remember when they were taking out the guns and this German surrendered to them, but due to the fact he wouldn’t shut his mouth Joe clocked him in the face with the fist he had his brass knuckles on.
Loved seeing this video! My grandfather was a paratrooper. He led a mortar team as part of the 508th P.I.R. also known as the Red Devils. After seeing videos like these it always makes me so thankful to be alive as my grandfather could very well have died long before I was born thus preventing me from ever coming into existance.
Can you talk about the german paratroopers? (fallschirmjäger)
Simple History can you do the brazilion army or the 201st mexican spuadron?
Medal of Honor: Airborne
Parachuting into battle was my favorite part
Yeah of course. Especially when you want to perform the so called "greased landing"....
Coming from an active duty paratrooper ... thanks and good video
Nature Freak falling around 20 to 30 feet per second, with 90lb of kit on including your own body weight... it’s painful😂
US paratroopers also fought In the pacific
THEY. DONT TALK ABOUT THAT THEY WANT MARINES. TO GET ALL THAT GLORY
@@chaseconn5254 They didn't do a paradrop onto Leyte, they were effectively, just standard infantry for the entire campaign.
I wish this was an hour long so i can watch while eating popcorn 😋

I would love it if you guys did his military history all the way to his death

thank you.
just watch band of brothers, its a miniseries about us paratroopers
My great grandfather and Great Uncle both fought in ww2 my grandfather fought on Omaha beach and my great Uncle was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, they both survived the war.
Good simple history, you are my most favourite military channel.keep it up.

Could you talk about that war that killed around half of the population of Paraguay?
The triple alliance war, a disaster for Paraguay was a miracle for Argentina,Brazil and Uruguay.
It wasn't really a miracle since it made all three allies go into a very deep recession tho
As a paraguayan, i could not agree with you more, and if you want, i can give you Many details about it that are unknown outside of paraguay (tho some may be false)
Still waiting for a sequel to Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Can you do one about russian spetznaz? From ww2-present?
Which one? Spetsnaz just means special. Theybhave a spetsnaz in their police even.
People always throwing that word around but dont know anything about russian spetsnaz
@@kodingkrusader2765 he meant the Russian military spetsnaz. Their special forces unit
Far as I know they don't make vids about bottom of the barrel military forces.
You forgot to mention that Airborne were skilled knife fighters as they would use multiple knives to sneak up on the enemy and stay quite. I hope to become 82nd Airborne when I can. Not for pay but the experience and for my Grandfather who was a member

My Great Grandfather served in the 101st! He was ranked specialist and served in the various Normandy paratrooper operations. He was also in the Bulge. He had 2 purple hearts, and whenever my Dad (as a kid) went to visit him in Vermont, he’d sit there and stare at the metals. Told me all the stories my Great Grandpa told him.
Thanks for doing a video on this!
My great grandfather was a paratrooper in the 101st during WWII! He was on the Invasion of Sicily(when he was still in the 82nd), D-Day, Market Garden, The Battle of The Bulge, and went to a German labor camp near the end of the war. When the German’s had to surrender their weapons when Germany surrendered, he got a German Luger pistol. Btw, after Sicily he was in the 101st for the rest of the war.
2 years since I posted this reply. I recently found out he served with the 509th PIR in North Africa. He was then in the 505th PIR at Sicily, then the 101st at Normandy, Holland, and Bastogne.

I honestly hated social growing up. However this is some of the most interesting, well narrated & engaging material I've seen in a long time. I wish that I found this channel back when I was in highschool. Keep up this amazing work. 👍Subscribed & Shared!
Your animating skills are phenomenal, man. Keep it up.
Love these animated videos! It will be interesting to see if you will be able to play as a paratrooper in COD WWII.
2:33 so the paratroopers face on the right looks similar before Battlefield V has just announced? Right.
Do a video on British paratroopers
My father was asked to volunteer for the paratroops. He carefully considered it but opted to stay in the regular infantry. He was sent as part of the Americal Division to the Pacific in summer 1945, the war ending as he was en route to the Philippines.
For my part, I've always had a special fascination with airborne warfare and probably would've made the opposite decision if I had been in my dad's place.
Much respect for these soldiers really crazy what they went through
"Market Garden" the operation that would end the war in a few weeks. Sadly enough it didnt for the most part, resulting in the hunger winter in the netherlands.
Market Garden was actually the fastest allied advance against German opposition in the entire September 1944 to February 1945 period. It liberated hundreds of thousands of Dutch civilians, created a protective buffer zone in front of Antwerp and provided the springboard for the British and Canadian advance into Germany, which would have occurred sooner if the American retreat in the Ardennes didn't happen, which prevented all other allied operations that winter.
Great vid but you forgot the 82nd's (504 PIR to be precise) jumps and amphibious assault into Italy.. Salerno and Anzio..AATW.!

As a mature young man myself born in 1998 from Lakemba, New South Wales, Australia I am extremely grateful for all the selfless men in the past who fought in every war to try to make the world a better place. I would always cherish them in my heart and never forget them. I cannot even begin to imagine the fear and the pain they have experienced absolutely depressing. That is why I will always appreciate my life because I am very lucky that I never had to experience the horrors of war. As human beings we should all follow the three principles of life compassion, empathy and love to have a more perfect union.
I found your channel by a comment on the movie trailer of Dunkirk about how your great grandad was at that battle. Much respect to him.
Love these videos, my grandad was a paratrooper! Keep it up!
Mr. J i dont know exactly where he faught but he faught during the vietnam war not ww2.
My great uncle was a paratrooper during ww2 in the 82nd but he got severely injured during d-day so he couldn't fight anymore

Make German Fallschirmjäger Please
The Airborne didn’t jump with BARs, they jumped with .30cals instead, although the 82nd would create a way to drop with the BAR during Korea. Originally, Airborne units needed more portable weapons with a lot of firepower because of their small size, so why drop with a heavy BAR that only has a 20 round capacity when you can drop with a .30 that is smaller overall, easier jump with, and being belt fed as well. The limiting firepower of the BAR and the portability problems of the M1919A4 lead to the paratrooper M1919A6 design, although it was generally a flawed weapon. It made the .30cal even heavier, something no soldier wants.
BARs were given to the glider units, and once Airborne soldiers were on the ground, then they would carry BARs. Despite not dropping with them, they were used, especially during the Battle of the Bulge.
I don’t remember exactly how it was setup, but I do know that BAR men were usually assigned once they were on the ground.
My grandpa was part of airborn 82 he just recently died but he would always tell me of how all the guys there where tough as nails
Jeez, these men were amazing. I hope my generation shapes up and makes them proud.
These vids really teach me a lot about WW1, WW2, and other wars I never knew about. Plz keep it up👍

May you do the secret war? Not much people know about the Hmong people who fought with the American and French forces.
Will you please do a more in depth video about the battle of the bulge
03:49 Damn, I'm really impressed that they got the 82nd Airborne's 504th PIR Skull and Crossbones helmet insignia right. Everyone wants to use the 506th's Spade insignia everywhere, but they got it right.

@williejames huff OK kid. Most men that could fight did. That's why a lot of people have relatives that were in ww2
My great grandfather was part of the 101st Airborne during WW2. I wish I would've been able to talk to him about what he went through, but he passed away before I was born and the only thing I have to remember him by is a picture of him in his uniform. There is so much respect I have for everyone affected by WW2. Whether someone gave their life for the war or made it home to their family, whether they fought for the Allies or Axis; we must give our utmost respect to all those troops.
My great grandfather was a US paratrooper in ww2. He was in D-Day Market Garden, and the invasion of Sicily.

My favourite units in Enlisted.
I’m an airborne unit in the US Air Force, and many of this holds true even today, just updated equipment. A basic rundown of our gear is our rifle, a handgun, a knife, parachute, armor vest, life jacket (if near water), rations, and mission specific equipment in a special pack meant not to interfere with the chute. Most of what we do is the same as back then, being midnight raids in enemy territory, sabotaging ammo caches, etc. There’s a base in the Mojave that is used for paratrooper training with what’s basically air soft guns that hurt more. There’s a bunch of mock bases of different types, mock artillery emplacements, mock airfields, and more. We don’t use drop towers for those either. We literally jump out of planes, attack the mock base that is most of the time a group of instructors or normal infantry men learning how to repel a base raid, complete any objectives like “destroy the airfield” and get out.
It'd be interesting to see the UDTs of WW2 or even Navy SEALs in Vietnam.
Please do the battleship Bismarck or the hood
I remember when this video was first uploaded man time flies so fast 😪
My dad was a Toccoa Man and served in WWII with E Company of the independent 517th Regimental Combat Team. He went on to serve 30 years in the army, 26 on jump status, in all the ranks between buck private and bird colonel, including the Warrant ranks. He also served in all five of the airborne divisions and, eventually made almost 2,500 parachute jumps, including one combat jump, his 13th, with the 517th.
The paratroopers were more important in the Island hopping campaign in the Pacific. My Dad served in 11th, you mentioned them briefly, I would really like additional details on them!
My uncle was a paratrooper and he went twice...he was a badass to be honest..sadly he past away a few months ago...and I am starting ROTC in high school to make him proud when I get into the army as a soldier
