    Yes that is the key. Psychologically you tend to use the top of net as your target to get ball back but if you look at your shots as in trajectory then you add I dimension.
    Also. You give other player less angle to hit into when they are deep.
    As you get closer to the net. The angle and area on where the ball can land inside the court increases.

    Thanks to your videos I often hit balls deep (5' over the net and within 5' of the baseline)--my rally partners often net the ball or return a short ball that I can't run down because I don't have that predator instinct of looking for the weak return to make points. I have a ball machine mentality, not a tennis strategy brain--maybe that fuzzy yellow balls Playbook is in my future?

      you can still use a ball machine but try to mix old balls ans new balls the first will land short the seconde wide you will develop this instinct. i am using the slinger bag for my self and use different ball Brands and different ball state so each ball is different

    A really great way to practice this is to put a tarp over the net, or you could put a rope about 3 feet over the net - they’ll produce the same effect

    I'm always telling my high school players how important depth is but a lot of them think power is the number one thing

      A heavy ball is even better. Then you don’t have to put it near the baseline.

      Topspin is everything! It's harder to return a deep, heavy topspin ball than a low, fast ball. 'course, I'm sure your overconfident HS kids will continue to ignore you :)

      @@JasonRennie why top spin is harder to return? I find fast balls harder to return

    • @JasonRennie
      @JasonRennie 2 роки тому

      @@allahousalami I had that experience when I was a 3.5 I think partly because I wasn't playing against anyone who could hit heavy (topspin), deep balls. With fast balls, I find that I mainly need to be in good position, react quickly, and start my movement early. 'course, an occasional ball will be out of reach, but they don't put me on the defensive. The nice thing about a fast ball is that it doesn't bounce very high so I can hit it around or below my waist. A topspin ball jumps up very quickly, so it's hard to hit low shortly after hitting the ground. There's an option to hit near the top of bounce, but hitting a good ball at shoulder height is challenging. I often move back for a more comfortable hit, but then I'm hitting from too deep to put pressure on my opponent.

    Hi coach. Love the video. I had been playing tennis for just over a yr. With that being said, How can I practice those types of shots? Do you have any particular drills? That top spin that will go over the net very high and land deep on the court? Thx in advance.

    • @eldartop1634
      @eldartop1634 2 роки тому +1

      Hi, I think that top spin is the best way to do it safely.

  • @alexsdg3441

    of course, everyone (in club level) would love to and kill someone to have their balls land that deep as these two pros. But the main issue is that we are just a mere club players :+) And not having the ball goes up high over the net would not do it, unless you provide proper amount of top spin and power. Ideal and perfect way of winning more points, but lacking in fundamental execution. Nonetheless, it is a valuable lesson to be remembered. thanks Coach.

    ryan sometimes your style is your genetic predisposition. for my self I cant produce a lot of top spin, I play with the heaviest racket and I play with lot of power and precision and depth. so of course it means a lot of errors... but when I am I a good day I am unstoppable.
    I tried to increase my top spin I can't with my normal forehand, the only way for me is the nadal buggy whip.
