Just takes practice, and conditioning your vocals. It used to make my throat itch bad and start coughing when I first started trying it. Over time i got more and more used to it and can switch back and forth at a seconds notice between cleans and growls.
Brutiful, epic metal is like love. It can speak any language. And we in the U.S. are jealous that we can't match the metal music machine that is Finland. Whatever you do over there to make your musicians what they are, keep doing it! And bravo to Nuclear Blast for helping bring your art to us!
@1989Freiheit The sound wouldn't be recorded through an external mic, it's likely that they're recording straight from the desk or something like that and they've just sync'd the music up to the video footage so it sounds clearer.
In the bowels of rocky mountain A fiery bird I forged Forged from iron, from molten steel A flaming eagle majestic beast On the wings of my eagle To black river I flew To the dale of the dead To the stream that grinds all flesh The eagle soared sky high Touched the vault of heaven The sky sparkled Cracked and creaked The eagle soared sky high Soared my flaming griffin The thunder crashed and rolled Rolled the monster's head I found a monster, a black giant pike From it's jaws my eagle saved me Dragged the fish under the sun Split it's belly, ripped the head off I rolled the pike's head to the house of the north I threw the bony skull at they haughty queen Here's a throne for you to rest your frozen bones I have done my share, now keep your promise I had made the heavens Forged out a miracle The snake infested field of death turned over Slayed the wolf of shadow lands Shackled the bear of death I captured the impossible The pike from the black river
@NCIJade I've heard alot of bands that say that english sounds better in songs / is nicer to write for etc. Plus it's a 2nd language over there and for alot of the world, so it makes sense to use it as a middle ground.
I had read an interview of the many years ago when the original singer left the band. He wanted to do a different band and sing only in Finnish. Part of the problem with that is that English is somewhat of a universal language, and it is mush easier to have international fans in English as opposed to Finnish, Dutch, or Spanish etc., because a larger part of the world will be familiar with English.
@NCIJade There are very few bands from non-English speaking countries that sing in their language and become successful outside their country. If a band wants to be well-known elsewhere they sing in English.
I am also Portuguese. I partially agree with you. I dont like it very much when a band has lyrics in their own language only (you cant understand shit of their point.), but then there's nothing wrong in adding something from your language into your music, for instance, if you do a song with some portuguese lines in amidst the song I find that to be totally cool, just not when everything is in a foreign language other then Enlgish. A bit of nationalism cant hurt right? Saudações :)
@NCIJade I don't know, maybe Finnish doesn't fit into their music or he can't growl as good in Finnish. Like I can't growl in my own language wich is Dutch, but when growling English It's allright.
Because they're an international band; look at Terasbetoni, they're an awesome band but they sing only in Finnish and they perform only in Finland, it seriously cuts your audience.
Its just not Amorphis style to sing and growl in finnish, but many other bands do, like Shade Empire - Ja Pimeys Laskeutui, its way more heavier than Amorphis but its finnish growling
the depth of his growl omfg. and how he is able to swith to pure vocals in a second and still sing in note.
Just takes practice, and conditioning your vocals. It used to make my throat itch bad and start coughing when I first started trying it. Over time i got more and more used to it and can switch back and forth at a seconds notice between cleans and growls.

In the bowels of rocky mountain
A fiery bird I forged
Forged from iron, from molten steel
A flaming eagle majestic beast
On the wings of my eagle
To black river I flew
To the dale of the dead
To the stream that grinds all flesh
The eagle soared sky high
Touched the vault of heaven
The sky sparkled
Cracked and creaked
The eagle soared sky high
Soared my flaming griffin
The thunder crashed and rolled
Rolled the monster's head
I found a monster, a black giant pike
From it's jaws my eagle saved me
Dragged the fish under the sun
Split it's belly, ripped the head off
I rolled the pike's head to the house of the north
I threw the bony skull at they haughty queen
Here's a throne for you to rest your frozen bones
I have done my share, now keep your promise
I had made the heavens
Forged out a miracle
The snake infested field of death turned over
Slayed the wolf of shadow lands
Shackled the bear of death
I captured the impossible
The pike from the black river
@zamg0d1 yeah, my first real metal album, was IM live. later is listened to the studio versions. I was happy that I had a live cd x)

you can see his majestic beard growing :D

The lead singer is still in the band. He's the rhythm guitarist now. The 2nd lead singer left for what you said.
Majestic Fucking Band !!!!
adrenalin flood!

Dutch is already growling. Atleast the letter "G" :D Schliermonikoog, Groningen you name it :D
Tomi Joutsen - only one man who has permission to wear slim trousers :D
@ngaKaLmaH Great mom!!
Do they still play this song often in tours? Or it has gone down in the playlist?
03:47 epic !! *____*
@NCIJade they sing in english , so people from other countries can understand their lyrics ... so more people can listen to their amazing music :D
You can growl?
Tomi looks like my labrador sneezing, when he works up to the beassssst note lol
Try scratching him behind the ears....or rub his belly.....see how that works out for ya😂
Kuulostaa ihan samalta ku levylläki :)
TURBO SUPERCHARGER OF SUPERCHARGER OF TWIN TURBO!!!

🤘🔥🇷🇺
Atleast my mom likes this band I put them on in her car and she doesn't give a shit :D haha
You sir are quite wrong, try Shade Empire - Ja Pimeys Laskeutui
@cheapcape So cute...
They probably want MANY people could sing along, and there are much more people who understand English than Finnish.
Better than porn! \m/

+1 x10
@cheapcape Oh please, I bet you consider tu-pac a hero soldier and pop the music of god *eyeroll*
