    This simulator should be shown in every School. Maybe then more people will understand how rare and precious life is, and at the same time how small and unimportant we are all together. Whoever made this simulator is a great person.

      Not really because all those specks we see we haven't got a clue what inhabits them. Most of them specs of light contain billion + solar systems. Yes life is precious. I agree, it's very special. It's almost as if the whole thing has been created to support life. I'd instead of picturing a universe, imagine a huge habitat. There's a pattern with everything else. It'll be foolish to the pattern stops with Earth.

    • @Dragon-Believer

      What does size have to do with importance? That is such a strange and illogical argument. Fat people are more important than thin people? It's often coupled with importance by geography. As if that is a thing. The most important thing is always in the center? Since when?

    • @ronaldholmes8525
      @ronaldholmes8525 3 роки тому +2

      Apples and oranges....You say it shows how unimportant we all are , and I say that it shows how unique life is and how SPECIAL we all are. Something truly remarkable happened on this planet ( even miraculous you could say ) that , so far, doesn't appear to have happened anywhere else. On the contrary , every other planet we're able to observe is barren and quite lifeless,...Now, I know what others say, that the universe is SO huge with untold trillions of other planets that there HAS TO BE other life out there somewhere...Well, maybe there is, but just maybe there isn't too. Until someone finds life out there, like it or not, it's all conjecture....Yeah, maybe we are THAT SPECIAL after all !

    • @Beanskiiii

      @Redshift666 2 роки тому +2

      @@ronaldholmes8525 life is not rare, neither is it restricted to carbon based biology, or bipedalism or binocular vision... we are special no matter how many life forms exist out there, that's the point of is even reflected in us, we are all seemingly the same minus a few physical differences yet we are all individuals with unique experiences. The universe is us and we are aware of ourselves, we are minds, localized in this shared dream experience, it is hell on earth because we make it so, we are world shapers but we have forgotten. Why do you think the pyramids were so special? It was a symbol of our control over our environment, but it then became a symbol of royalty and power over man, twisting it into a reflection of our own psychic substructures.

    With how big the universe is, with all the galaxies in it, with all the stars in it, and with all the planets, I’m shocked that people can say with 100% certainty that life doesn’t exist any where in the universe but here.

      Darth Nicotitus where did you hear that? No one can say with 100% certainty that life exist anywhere nor that it doesn’t. Statistically speaking, the odds of earth being the only place with life is virtually zero with the trillions of trillions starts in the trillions of galaxies.

    • @dekippiesip
      @dekippiesip 5 років тому +10

      @@kangaroo9299 that depends on the chances of life forming. If that chance would be about 1 in 10^23, then we may very well be alone. Until the discovery of exoplanets this was certainly a tenable position. But we have more data now.
      Out of a set of more than 3000 exoplanets about 20 are considered 'potentially habitable'. Lets be pessimistic and assume only 10% of those actually contain life, that gives a little less than a 0.1% chance of hosting life, so the universe would basically be full of life... And it is likely more because of detection bias(it's easier to detect gas giants, making the sample unrepresentative).

      Personally I wouldn't know because I think Ansel is only available on Nvidia supported titles, it's possible with DSR, the issue is Space Engine is actually the only game that I own that actually uses 970's full 4gb of RAM, if I play too long at full 4k my PC will literally just reset itself, I've tracked it in afterburner and openhardwaremonitor. :P I made a video of the magnitude effect though, doesn't show anymore detail, but it does show the process of rendering those stars and how quickly it becomes stressful on the engine itself.
      I may have to look into though, that would be very interesting.

Sure No Man's Sky wasn't as good as Shawn Murray said it would be, but comparing it to Space Engine, is like comparing the colors black and white (not a racist joke...) There's nothing to compare, they're both completely separate things, No Man's Sky is a rushed survival game where the objective is to explore and do whatever, Space Engine is a tool that people can use to explore the universe as they please without worrying about surviving. So please people, stop with the shitty unfunny unoriginal non clever uninformed jokes about this tool being better than No Man's Sky...

    Just a heads up and you may already know this, but central compact objects like black holes get kind of wonky when it comes to the interface. It won't tell you the mass unless you select one of it's orbiting stars and then actually examine the object. I noticed this when going to the center of clusters and checking out intermediate mass and supermassives while flying around. I just don't think the engine is coded in such a way to take them into account. They're basically the only thing in the sim that has multiple stars orbiting around a central compact object. Everything else is stars orbiting themselves and planets and other objects orbiting stars. You'll probably never find planets around the stars that orbit compact objects like that, it's rare...I've never seen it.

    Just think if you were an intelligent being on a planet inside IC 1101. Because your galaxy is so opaque, you would not know that you were part of an enormous galaxy. Nor would you know that any other galaxies existed, or what a galaxy even is, for that matter. Your perspective of the universe would be completely different than ours. Everyone on your planet would almost certainly have a religion and hold very strong religious beliefs, especially that your race was the only intelligent beings in what you would very narrowly define as being the universe. It makes me claustrophobic just thinking about it. Isn't it great living on Planet Earth in the great elliptical and transparent Milky Way Galaxy, where we have a much better understanding of our galaxy and the universe?!!!

    You can easily work out the size of this black hole. It’s always in direct proportion to the size of its Galaxy. In this case, 60 times larger than our own super black hole in our Milky Way. This was discovered by Lynden Bell and Rees; there has since been great steps in forming our understanding by many Astro Physicists, some of who have received prestigious awards for their work, namely the Nobel Peace Prize. 😀

      Many of them did go supernova. What you see are only old stars because there is no more material to create new ones and older ones, nevertheless they are still there, are so dim that you can't see them any more.

    • @PeterGregoryKelly
      @PeterGregoryKelly 6 років тому +10

      Maybe once there were supernovas but a galaxy will only go through star generating phases with enough dust and gas to form big stars which are short lived and quickly recycle their material as heavier elements. Once the big ones are gone you have faint slowly acting red dwarfs which will never go supernova and can last 1 trillion years before becoming white dwarfs. Only galactic collisions can give life to an old galaxy by stirring new gas and dust. The opportunities for such galactic collisions will diminish as galaxies move away from each other.
      I think such a galaxy will not support intelligent space travelling species because without new stars generating raw materials and high ordered energy they will burn out quickly, not being able to sustain civilisational spread through a galaxy of faint unexciting stellar action.

      It may be the largest one that we can observe. Giant galaxies grow bigger over time by accretion of smaller galaxies. Because light takes time to travel, we see very distant galaxies as they were early in the Universe's history, when they could not have yet grown large. Some of these distant galaxies could be larger than IC1101 by the time the Universe is its current age, but we can't see this yet because of light travel delay.

    I have only recently become aware of IC 1101, so it seems ironically coincidental that I have come across this video. After watching it, it seems to restate the total insignificance of the human race, on this little planet in our small galaxy. Maybe the results and indications from the Fermi Paradox have been misunderstood. Yes, there may not be any evidence yet of alien life, but as we've only been looking for a short while, maybe we need to look a bit longer. As indicated by recent discoveries, there are larger and more important galaxies for alien life forms to visit.
    A lot more so than the Milky Way.

    As IC 1101 is 1000,000,000 light years away,and is the largest galaxy ever observed, it could be the first galaxy ever formed, and would be located at the origin of the big bang.
