Tank you David. I'm very grateful to you for this program. I'm Brazilian, living in Brazil. I spend hour and hours listening you wonderful programs.
I am Brazilian too.
For many years I follow him.
Always ... Great videos

@@gsxr100100 Your comment made so much sense, halfway thru your comment you had a bit of an aneurism.
I've seen these videos before, but just watched a few again. Man, they are great. So much knowledge, presented clearly and accessibly, with beautiful images and music. Thank you again, sir.
I've watched this series so many times, I can quote most of it by heart. My favorite is "It did not wobble"! So much is amazing, I can always come back & enjoy. Here in #10 he mentions work done at my school, Univ.of Wis.
This is the most *OUTSTANDING and ADMIRABLE* channel about astronomy. *THANK YOU VERY MUCH* mister Butler for your hard work and time you spend for our education.
I have seen COUNTLESS vids, docs, etc. regarding the subject of the Milky Way Galaxy. And I have to say that this video is EASILY BY FAR, The Most In depth, Straight fwd, Easy to understand, video that I have seen..... MAYBE EVER! KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK, and DO NOT LISTEN 2 UNIMPORTANT INTERNET TROLLS!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks.
yes .
Your videos are so informative and fascinating, Mr. Butler. But my favorite thing about them is that the cadence and tone of your voice relaxes me to the point of falling asleep. Treat that as a compliment.
Fantastic presentation in pictures, words, and music, thank you
The best voice i have ever heard.
Every single word melts into my mind.
The music + your voice = so peaceful that it’s like listening to a bedtime story to make you sleep
Thank you David Butler. UA-cam is a great tool or a great waist of time. Your site is a great tool. There is so much pseudoscience on UA-cam It is great to find a site as good as yours.
It's sad how far people have fallen... I don't know what's to blame. I've noticed most of them are American, so it's probably alot to do with the failing education system, but that doesn't explain the pathological distrust, hyper suspicion, and tendancies to beleive in elaborate conspiracies. I've spoken to some of these people and it really is crazy how they explain away anything and everything that goes against their conspiracy with the most bizarre nonsense ... Ive heard them say that Gravity doesn't exist, That the sun's only 3000 miles away "because it has to be for their flat earth model to work" , uh the moon is a hologram, satellites are fake, the space stations fake, all images videos are fake, Antarctica is patrolled by whoever and they turn away anyone who tries to go there... Lol, the tourist etc are paid actors... And there are thousands of these nuts! My own mother is kind of one,. She's a chem trailer... Believes contrails from aircraft are a nefarious chemical spray...
You'd think people would grow and shine since the internet gave everyone complete access to the whole of human knowledge, but instead we get this spreading downward spiral into a new anti science paranoid dark age
Anthony Romeo yes indeed....i encourage the youth to use YT as an educational tool, they'll enjoy it and appreciate it alot more
DUMNEZEU este mare , a facut totul perfect. Documetarul este interesant si util pasionatilor de astrofizica. Multumim Einstein, inaintasilor , contemporanilor care au putut pune in lumina acest minunat domeniu si nu in ultimul rand lui David Butler !
Looks like I'm hooked in until the end of this series. This really helps grasp ideas on how our universe is constructed and how it works.
Thank you! Finally, a straight forward explanation of the structure and size of the Milky Way and the location of the Solar System in the Orion Spur. Great video.
Thank you for sharing the awesome wonder of our galaxy! We are so privileged to be able to begin our understanding of the universe the way it really is.
Mind-blowing!! Our galaxy is amazing 😀 Beautifully written and presented, thank you so much.
These are great videos! I'm glad I came across this channel. I have learned a lot more, and I could listen to David Butler talk all day!
Nice video.....simplifying and packing tonnes of scientific studies in just 20 minutes....!
Brilliant...
Very useful information given in this video.. thanks sir
Stunningly beautiful. Amazingly interesting...much appreciation for your sharing with us Dr. Butler💥
Mr Butler thank you so much for you video's. I realy enjoy you explaining stuff about the universe. THANK YOU
Love your channel. I can’t get enough of it. Please keep them coming. Thanks.
I was never able to find information about the center of our galaxy. This is very informative and I appreciate the effort you put into making this. Thanks for the video!
I love your channel so much. Excellent, easy to understand delivery.
Beautifully narrated with clear explanations, I feel inspired and learned something new that G2 will be sucked in by Sag*A. Your videos are some of the best on the subject of astronomy and I hope you keep producing such content.
I am very very disappointed by the comments here and I wish people could develop some critical thinking.
Thank you for taking out the time to spread knowledge free of cost for all of us.
Thanks. By the way, G2 did not fall into the black hole. I covered that in an annual update. Also, you might find the 2019 4k update interesting. I added quite a bit on Sag A *.
@@howfarawayisit Voyager 1 ( @16:04) was lunched in 1977 not 1975.... there is one dislike from me...
Mr. Butler these are excellent videos. I recommended them to a high school buddy of mine who now teaches high school herself, and she passed them on to the science teacher who now uses them in his class.
How can we feel so much when we are so small? Mr Butler I hope a transmission of this work makes it to other civilisations so they can see what we are capable of.
Indeed ! 😎
Thanks David for this incredible work.
It is amazing what you have done.
Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you so much for your videos! No unwanted bullshit, just clear digestible information, love it. Great choice of music as well.
Dear David this is outstanding and still very much relevant ,99% of us who have watched your vids applaud you. Thank you very much for this wonderful and informative video.
All the wars in the world would stop quickly and laugh at each other if they watched this video and realized how insignificant we are in the universe

Not to mention that if the world is in war and there is a winner and soon after scientists discover that a huge asteroid is heading our way and will erase life on this planet.
Yes my friend
WHY do this kind of videos don´t go viral man? your videos are just awesome David, thanks for charing your knowledge
Your series is awesome I have been watching them all , it boggles my mind,I could ask a million questions , thanks to people like you and Carl Sagan, who introduced me to the Cosmos my hunger to know more is never ending
This is an outstanding collection of videos. Who knew learning science could be so beautiful. Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos. Some unsolicited advice, to help improve, is to use a pop filter/pop screen between your mouth and microphone. This will remove the little clicks and smacking sounds and make it more pleasant for listeners. Especially those who listen with headphones/earbuds. Thank you for all of your efforts into producing these fantastic videos.
I'll give it a try. Thanks.
What a fabulous set of videos!
this video answered many questions I had. bravoooo! for the the teacher!
Thanks for your hard work, love this channel.

Thanks mr.Butler, tomorrow i bring you a apple pie.

By far the best of 50 milkyway galaxy videos. One thumbs up is all I can give unfortunately.
Perfect soundtrack, captivating video, thanks for sharing!
Mr Butler, I very much enjoy your videos and I am happy that someone with knowledge in this field of study is producing such content for youtube. I think you are good at doing this. Your presentation is pleasant and entertaining to listen to. I think you do a very good job at this.

Thank you for this marvellous series!
space, life and classical music somehow suit perfectly together....very interesting
A really great video. Very useful and informative. Superior narration, sir.
Totally fascinating ....that humankind is at this point we can try to understand our place in a galaxy , one of countless of such objects , is mind blowing . Even though our earthly notion of space and time seems unable to comprehend these creations and lightyears' distances.
It's only physicists who are able to understand a fraction of it . Most of us can only philosophize about it .🤔 🌌
Wow, so crazy big! The voyager part about the photo of the Milky Way, blew my mind! had to go bad to make sure I heard that right! Wow some great videos very informative easy to understand, well done sir!
Mind boggling...this video just put everything into perspective 😯😯
David Butler, hats off to you good sir. You did a phenomenal job in presenting this information. Your video books are even better than what is available on television (Nova, Mutual of Omaha, and even History Channel). You have gained a subscriber. Keep up the good work.
Bravo. Standing ovation.
Good Mic and natural vocals,.
I can put David Butler on at night when me and my girlfriend go to sleep and with the black background of the night and David’s low hertz voice = peaceful, osmosis, good night of sleep!!! 🔙🔛🔝🔚

Fantastic presentation.
I know the thought of seeing the milky way from outside of the disk is a bit of an irrational wish on my part, but I can't stop myself from imagining the overwhelming beauty such a view would bring. It is sad to think that we will not be able to see it. I understand that it would be very similar to the other spirals in the universe, but there is just something about knowing that you're looking at _our own_ little island of stars moving silently through the void.
it will be quite a spectacle but the thing about the feeble minds of humans, we get bored easily. even if the orion clusters is next to the moon, we will get use to it and move on to other things
@@orbitalpunch4711 I've noticed that people definitely take many things for granted, and are no longer amazed by things they see often as well. However there are still people that see the beauty of the universe in even seemingly "ordinary" things.

I couldn’t agree more mate
excellent documentary....I found it extremely informative and easy to follow and understand for an astronomy novice like myself. I will certainly be following you and your other features.

18:47 "They call it dark matter because it does not interact in any way with the matter and electromagnetic energy we see with our instruments." Then you immediately contradict this by saying "Its only interaction is through gravity." So It DOES INTERACT.
I understand. By particles 'interacting' I mean that there would be some kind of energy exchange if they came into contact. But dark matter would pass right through normal matter without any energy exchange whatsoever. But you are correct in noting that the existence of dark matter in a space, bends the space just like normal matter. That bend will impact all matter that encounters it. It is a sort of interaction. Thanks for you note.
Just FYI, the second part of the name "Schwarz-schild" is pronounced like "shield", not child. It also translates as 'Black Shield'.
Great post, love your channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and love of astronomy with us.
Thanks for the correct pronunciation.
Dave I’m loving your videos you are so accurate when it comes to the Milky Way I really look forward to seeing more your videos I can’t get enough of them the music the sound of your voice I find to be oddly satisfying I love you man keep up the good work
Very interesting indeed! Thank you very much.
If I ever travel to the outside of our Milky Way I will bring back a picture. Make sure you are here in approx. 1100 Million years.
Very interesting and gives me a bird's eye view (aerial etc) of the Milky way and where we located relative to the rest of the Galaxy. Thanks
I love your lessons, professor! Your knowledge is amazing and very useful for fans of Astronomy, like myself. The animations is incredibly good! If compare with most of your colleges astronomers.
But there is a problem... You said: 'Our Milky Way has 600 bln stars'. Are you sure? The most accepted quantity is 200 bln. I've heard 100 and once - 400 bln. Maybe your number based on calculations I don't know of? So, what make you think that the Milky Way has this stupendous amount of stars?
In the next video you said that Andromeda has over a TRILLION stars. I know (from other cosmology clips) that it can reach such an amount only AFTER merging with the Milky Way.
Good catch. Others have noticed this as well. I was using a number that included brown dwarfs which is not a generally accepted number. The accepted high water count is around 400 billion. I'll be fixing this error in my next update. Thanks.
David Butler
Thank you so much, Dr. Butler! Now everything in place!
You've mentioned a Brown Dwarfs. If I may... I'm gonna ask you one more question? What kind of nuclear reactions is going on in a core of those sub-stars? The temperature out there is much less than 18 mln degrees, needed for the nuclear fusion?
Great video with sublime music from Beethoven's Ninth.
Amazing Video. Thank you.
Do you agree that the Earth is a mere "neutrino" in the vast size and mass of the universe.
If we could really look at the whole universe from the outside, we would see some form of entity from which we are merely a fundamental particle.
Could be !! 😁
Like that Galaxy hanging from the Cats Collar in Men in Black ! LoL 😁😎😎😎
Excellent sir . Thank you
How far??? The Milk Way is right here ..... ALL AROUND ME, close to us, around the earth !!!
Hm, 2013. That is 5 years ago and I do hope that you are well and still doing the work which you love. I viewed this segment first and must now search out 1-9. Thank you.
Amazing!
for a butler , you make VERY GOOD videos !! Enjoyed watching it
Sorry Bro! I liked your video but it is not possible to get an edge on view of the Milky Way galaxy without being outside it. The probe that took the picture would have to be launched billions of years ago.
I am adding a discritption on how this is done in the coming update. Hint: the right hand edge of the photo is adjacent to the left hand edge.
Calling Professor David Butler "Bro" is kind of ... intimacy?
Mr. Butler, fantastic and wonderful visuals and commentary you have with this series, very very well done! I saw something in this video and wanted to make the minor comment that I believe that Harlow's last name is Shapley and not Sharpley. As you stated here, he was instrumental in shaping our understanding of the physical size, shape, and our place in our galaxy utilizing RR Lyrae stars and Cepheid variables. Thanks again and wonderful series!
+rgreisler Thanks. I'll correct via annotations.
This is so relaxing and interesting
Excelent video. Dr. Butler, could you put English subtitles on the video, it will be very useful for us to understand all you are taking about. Thank you.
The next best thing to subtitles is the video's document. Download it and have it available to read while you watch the video.
Beethoven's 9th, 3rd movement. perfect.
Not knowing why a black hole makes an accretion disk is like a character of a book becoming self-aware, but not knowing it existed in a book.
Amazing! I am alive only because of this understanding. I work in a poor country, where the salary is only a 100 bucks. This knowledge is the only thing that keeps me alive, without it I had to suicide myself... and I'm serious about this.

Бирено Коремче bro, you have internet access. your life isn't that bad. :/
Бирено Коремче 100 dollars? per week? per day?
apparently it's enough that one may afford a computer and have internet connections.
how much the average person earns is not what determines his wealth, it's how much things cost vs. what he earns. we like to use the gallon of milk comparison. for instance e figure say, a fellow works as a painter and earns roughly $500-$600 per week, A gallon of milk costs around $3-$4 per gallon.. more or less depending on location.
I can tell you that the average American will spend/consume approx $100 per day just normal day to day business.
Бирено Коремче GOD BLESS U

On 15th June 2018, a signal was transmitted from the Esa big radio antenna at Cebreros (77km West of Madrid, Spain), in memory of Stephen Hawking, who died on 14 March 2018, and his work on the physics of black holes. The broadcast will travel the 3457 light year distance at the speed of light and will arrive in the year 5475; this will be the first ever human interaction with a black hole. 1A 0620-00 was chosen for this broadcast as it is the closest black hole to Earth.
