I find it much easier to just play the 5th fret on the B string, instead of using my pinky to reach up to the 9. Also lets it all ring out to sound cleaner in my opinion. Great lesson though!

i have always just played this on the open and 2nd frets with no capo, sounds exactly the same and is an even easier hold?

maybe that works for you but i always followed how tom actually played it. like in the Inglewood 2002 video for example.
