This just popped up on my home page. I am from Fort Payne and love to see others enjoying the area! sometimes I forget how beautiful my "own backyard" is sometimes!

We use to go there all the time. Every other weekend during the winter and then Easter and most of the fall. We kayak the little river. Paddling the canyon is just spectacular. We use to stay at the camping area, but when they installed those all night sodium vapor lights. We couldn't use the telescope or star gaze. We found a couple of campgrounds that were great for watching the stars. I bring the scout troop up there on the way to summer camp. We hike down to our favorite, secret swimming hole. About a 20 min hike thru the rocks. We spend the day jumping into the river and swimming.. After a day of swimming and hiking we go to the wilderness area to sleep. the next morning we leave to go rafting on the Ocoee, and then to summer camp. The scouts always want to go back. During the winter we have done one week trips where we set up camp of a week and do day trips around the area, hiking, climbing, and visiting historic sites. About 20 locations all together. We do a couple of winter hikes in the canyon, to a hidden 60' waterfall. We climb out there and hike back to the cars. A lot to see and places to go. We have about 5 campgrounds we use depending on the time of year and how long we are staying. Sure they would turn the lights off at 9 pm in the camping area.

We camp at DeSoto SP usually 4-5 times per year. It’s definitely our favorite. My daughter loves it there, she begs us to go there every time we plan a trip. It’s only 2 hours from home so it’s great for us!

Camped there and wasn't prepared for the all night lights that kept us up all night. They were on all night long/ Could have played cards all night. Very disappointed. Great area to explore. Went to little river canyon and hiked the secret trail down to the river. Went swimming all day. Snorkeled and saw some big fish. Was swimming into a cave when a large fish decided to leave right next to my head. I was following a trail on a map a boy scout gave me. Beautiful hike. spent the entire day down at the swimming hole.

The lodge has wifi but the park wifi was a no go along with cell coverage. I'm pretty sure they did not have cable. Thanks for watching!
