When anyone talks about "Classic Hollywood" the cut off always seems to be late 1950s or early 1960s if they stretch it.
If that's your criteria, it's not surprising you didn't include Sigourney Weaver.

Being on camera appears to be the great equalizer making people appear to be more similar and average in height. That is unless the director intentionally films the scene to accentuate an actor's unusual height, then they can make some seem even larger than life.

@@marionmarino1616Audrey sadly didn’t get to live as long as many of the other classic actresses shown in this video.
She was much taller than the average woman. 5’7” in her era is equivalent to a women who is 5’9” to 5’10” today.
We have to remember that many of these actresses were handpicked, and were far above the skills and talents of the average woman.
Unlike these oldies women who were talented, today’s Hollywood is degrading and frankly, not worth the time anymore.

At the 1949 Academy Awards she and actor Rock Hudson were commissioned to perform the nominated song, "Baby It's Cold Outside". Mae was worried about looking so small next to 6' 5" Hudson. You have to be careful of publicist info regarding height. Women are often presented as being shorter than they actually are and men as being taller. I don't remember who the actress was, but one who was slightly over 6' was told by her agent that he would not even try to represent her unless the claimed to be 5' 11 1/2. Allan Ladd was frequently paired with women whose stats said they were shorter than him, but actually turned out to be taller in person. This makes sense with him claiming extra height and the ladies claiming to be shorter than they were.

Uma Thurman, Geena Davis and Brooke Shields are all 6 feet. Sigourney Weaver and Nicole Kidman are 5'11". Tamara Dobson, a glamorous black actress remembered for her 1973 role as Cleopatra Jones, was 6'2". Hope Emerson, who appeared in several movies in the 40s and 50s, notably Westward the Women, was also 6'2". For those with long memories, she was the voice of Elsie the Cow in the 1950s.
Many here were a surprise, looking taller or shorter on the screen, probably due to high heels or the lack of them. Back in the day, old height and weight charts for women included an extra 2" for heels.

Short women carried themselves different back in the day: often elongating their legs when they walked, stretching out their arms in front of their torso when gesturing, always holding their head up high: all while looking elegant and fluid, natural, graceful and not struggling. The women back then were a lot more feminine which made them seem much more attractive even if their features were mere average.

Interesting video. 😊I am short, and it's never been a problem for me. I think personality makes up for the lack of height. But beauty standards can be cruel, and height is included in that. You have to be tall to be a model, even if now you can be a plus model, but not short. I think it's descriminatory. Who came up with that idea anyway? When I was a teenager I wanted to be a flight attendnant, but in my country I was considered too short. I think it had to do with not being able to reach, though. But other than that, short ladies are just as capable and gorgeous. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
