I saw this performed by the NYC ballet in NYC 50 years as a young ballet student visiting New York from a obscure ballet studio in Worcester, Mass. I was transfixed. It was extraordinary.. I was only 16yrs old and a Bach enthusiast as well as a ballet lover. I wept with the beauty of seeing this visual homage to the master of the art of the fugue. It was perfection. I have never forgotten it. I am thrilled to see this again for the first time in 50 years. Thank you so much for posting this!!
If there is such a thing as perfection - this is it. A poetic masterpiece on so many levels! I saw Suzanne Farrell dance many times and I can never forget it.
How fabulous to have this recording of young Suzanne Farrell in one of my favorites of Balanchine's ballets. The second movement pas de deux is breathtaking. Thank you so much for posting this!
Fantastic moment in the history of ballet! Thank you so much for sharing. I agree should be archived and preserved for the next generations of dancers.
Thank you so much for posting this rare footage. I spoke briefly with Suzanne Farrell when she was here in Seattle working with Pacific Northwest Ballet a number of years ago. She could not have been nicer! It is amazing to see her dance in Concerto Barocco! Again, thank you so much!
Phenomenal....Didn't even know this recording existed. To preserve the true Balanchine legacy I feel we need to have these archived and as publically available as possible.
@@lindaclark9925 Well, tough luck. There are no 'boxed sets' of most NYCB past performances. There are a few sets available which were recorded in Canada during the Sixties and Seventies, and of course there are sets of performances broadcast on PBS. The vast majority must be viewed at the Dance Collection; sorry, sweetiepie, I didn't make that rule. Were you not such a rude twat I'd make more suggestions, but why should I even bother? Blocked.

It was quite difficult for me to stay focused on the 5 girls I partnered at one time. Then even more moves with dancers going in and out under my arm. When I did it I had to do deeper backbends. I stayed with exact choreography of Mr. B.I also had to use sreatched pointed foot more than than Mr. d'iAmbois.
...well, considering mr b was physically there to tell the dancers what to do, i am going to go out on a limb and say this is what he wanted (in 1966 anyway)
Do you have any videos of Suzanne dancing "Symphony in C"? Your posts are amazing! Such rare footage I've never seen before of my favorite dancers ! (Hayden, Farrell, Leland, Tomasson, Villella, McBride, Clifford!)

You're so very lucky to have witnessed something of Balanchine's live! And that you loved baroque makes it even better
Thank you for telling us, Elise. How interesting.

LONG arms, LONG legs, HIGH extensions, and so MUSICAL....Suzanne is just incredible. And what a gorgeous ballet, Concerto Barocco!!!!
Conrad Ludlow!!! Wow, what an amazing partner!!
One of the two or three best partners in ballet HISTORY.
One of the greatest dances of the 20th century.
If I had a time machine, I’d go back and watch this all day and every day.
Splendido! Meraviglioso... ed a danzare sono mie coetanee... le creature più meravigliose che il Creatore ha voluto creare... Deo Gratias!!!

If I could give a thousand likes I would! What a glorious film this is!
Gorgeous time machine!
This is fantastic! What a treat to see Suzanne in this role!
This is so soft and regal. Ballets now are very different. They are sharp and very athletic now. But this is just plain lovely ❤️
the balanchine style was seen as "sharp and athletic" for many years...
@@bobloblaw9679 really? Well okay, just looked that way to me. 🤷♀️

Beyond lovely .... thank you so much for sharing this brilliant ballet.
Farrell is incomparable.

Sublime! I saw this so many times at NYCB and it never got stale.

Thank you so much for this incredibly beautiful performance of Balanchine's great work.

If you ever can get to Lincoln Center, the Dance Collection there has a treasure trove of recordings of NYCB unavailable elsewhere....
@@maseraticboychik that's just it; no we can't "get to Lincoln center" ...where is a...boxed set?
Ps....this video could also be a little overhauled, sharpened.
