Sameee! One time after midnight I listened to this song and totally had a moment of worship.. "it's not a cry that you hear at night, it's not somebody who's seen the light, it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah" it was totally beautiful, I've just gone through a season where I'm totally lost and broken, and there were times that I was just crying to Him not as someone close to Him and just desiring to get closer to Him but just simply, "Lord I don't know what's happening but still I acknowledge You and still will worship you, and you alone could help me out of this misery" (like the people in this song who sinned and wants to get back to God though they've done miserable things) don't know exactly how it means but to me it means like you can't seem to have faith, or like you don't really know how to approach God or you've sinned and not that bold to go to Him, still trusting and hoping that the Lord would come to you, and acknowledging His supremacy, being God and still worshipping Him 💖

I’m an agnostic, so usually the religious Christmas songs kinda wig me out cause there’s only so much “Love Jesus” you can take, but I have a unique love for this song. This song means so much more to me, and the lyrics are ambiguous enough that they reference religion but it doesn’t HAVE to be religious. This song has gotten me through panic attacks, through times my family were screaming at each other in the next room, through so much pain and loss that even now it’s my go-to. There’s something so powerful and emotional about this song that really connected to me
I fail to see how these magnificent, poignant lyrics promote Christian dogma. If you disagree, please explain the verse that starts by questioning the existence of a deity.
I mean it wasn't a Christian song to begin with. There's a missing Stanza that is so poignantly Jewish, in line with Leonard's upbringing, that's been removed to make it more appealing to Christians. It's also NOT supposed to be a happy song.
It wasn’t written as a religious song. It’s about dualism in life and “Hallelujah” is kind of like the times when you are able to just accept it at it is. It’s a beautiful song.
Aaaww, I'm so sorry for your loss! They are in a better place now: In heaven with God, singing in his choir of Angels. I'm sure that they are all watching over you, and I really hope that you can find things to help the grief go away. Their memories will live on in your heart, of course! XOXOXO
This song saved my soul. Im not particularly religious, but after a bad break up with my last ex this song found me. I sang it over and over again from the depths of my tattered soul. This song goes beyond the surface with me.
I'm here listening to this song to feel things that, from your comment, you might just understand. I don't really think this song is religious, though so many hear it that way. I think it's for all of us to be able to feel what we need to. I'm curious if you feel anything different listening to it now than you did back then. And I wouldn't for a moment want to know! That's between you and your soul. I see your comment was 4 years ago. And I hope these 4 years have been for you whatever you needed them to be, stranger!
Thanks for the lyrics. It helps when you're trying to learn the words especially since there is a lag in the video with what words are coming next. (if you're trying to sing along) This is also great for screen shot purposes.

Written as a secular hymn one can only imagine the power of this song's religious overtones like Amazing Grace that has transformed many unbelievers into thinking that must be something greater than all of humanity combined. On my last breath I hope Hallelujah is on my lips because I once was lost, but now have been found.

@@nerblebun "Hallelujah" is a song written by Canadian singer Leonard Cohen, originally released on his album Various Positions (1984). The Lord blessed me with a job, after about 7 years of joblessness,I had been forgotten but he has come through for me moreover in a pandemic year,I give honour and glory to the most high God.
I have a lot of built up trauma surrounding religion, and this song used to trigger me so bad I would break down into tears at just the first few seconds of it. I can now proudly say that I can listen to it in its entirety and even sing along to it sometimes :)
God loves us, and will never judge. Its hard to convince yourself something that you've been told a lot. Remember that the Lord is waiting for you with wide and gentle arms, ready to show u his love!
@@crimsonneko Ik I was trying to say that He wont judge us because we arent perfect, thats kinda what I was trying to say. Sorry for the misunderstanding
I was sitting outside singing this (extremely loudly, and hitting the high notes) while three men walked outside. I continued singing, and they looked kinda annoyed. I sang it again. Lol. THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE SONG!!
This is not a worship song or a Christian hymn. It's just what it is, a cold and broken Hallelujah that comes from someone who recognizes our human weakness and brokenness, who doesn't know his Lord, yet but knows that there's something much more superior, higher and powerful. Glory to God, because even that one, who doesn't see or hear, can feel it and submit (her)himself to his Holy Spirit. BTW Marry Xmas!
I have loved this song ever since I was 4. It plays a really important role in my life and I couldn’t be more grateful that this song coexists with me :)
This song wakes up my very soul is it's down deep I remember listening to it thinking of somebody very special and I musta cried for an hour like a baby A previous song is saying thank you Hallelujah for everything I have let me be reminded of that so I don't take it for granted It brings out and fulfills every emotion in your body is the same time what a beautiful wonderful Song just like the lady I dedicated it to a while back
Whether it is our best or worst time, this song brings us all to that same nostalgic place we once knew. Some listen in memory of others, some listen to this is times of great joy. I am currently on my band bus on the way home from my high school winning the state championship for the first time since 1933. It is one of the best times. However, I also listen in the worst times. Those long, dreary, and sad nights where nostalgia and longing sets in. And so I ask, when do you listen to this song?
My beloved mommy passed away right at the Christmas night. She was the kindest and thoughtful person on the earth, people loved her and always asked for her advice. She passed away suddenly right at my arms. I heard this song yesterday near the Christmas tree and can't stop to listen. I wish she heard this song with me. Rest in peace in the heavenly kingdom my beloved mommy. I'm so much to miss you and will love you forever.
I don't have money to burn, but if I did I would take singing lessons just to learn how to sing this song. It is just one of the most beautiful songs I have ever listened to.
Glory be to God for the talented man using his body to make the beautiful sounds. Blessings to all. I love this version of alleluia. Congratulations. Amen 🙏🏽

I think that it's not okay that people are correcting your for the 'god has a capital g'. Because what Mitch says is "maybe there's A god above" meaning that it's possible, but still questioned. He doesn't say "maybe God's above" or something along those lines, he says a God which is left for anyone to assume what god or what kind of god. All in all you literally make the best lyric videos I've ever seen - this is so aesthetically pleasing and beautiful to watch!
Yeah that's what I assumed when making the lyric video but then I looked up the original lyrics on google and its capitalized. So I guess it could go either way. Thanks for watching :)
SonnyTolo I do understand the song, I just don't think it's fair that people would rather criticize for that rather than appreciating the video and the song, whether it's god or God.
These guys are so AWESOME!!! THIS song is truly Beautiful how they sing it with no music just their own voices.these guys should get an musician award just for their voices alone...LOVE THESE GUYS
What a sad but beautiful comment. I'm sorry you haven't met Jesus yet. But if you are willing to see if you are missing something, Just talk to God as you would someone sitting next to you. Tell Him how and why you believe what you do or don't. Then tell Him that if you are wrong, you give Him permission to show you his love and reality of His existence. When He does, get to know Jesus and ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. God will not ignore this because He loves all of us and is waiting on us to believe and be saved. He forgives the worst of the worst. He doesn't want anyone to perish. The Holy Spirit starts to teach us things and our hearts and minds begin to change. It's amazing. The peace is like a new life. When I got saved, my breast cancer was healed, arthritis was healed, addiction was gone with no dt's and not a desire again for meth. I pray you will do this and ask Him to save you and cleanse you. Its why Jesus came in the flesh

Well, maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love

Achieving little initial success, the song found greater popular acclaim through a recording by John Cale, which inspired a recording by Jeff Buckley. It has been viewed as a "baseline" for secular hymns.. Following its increased popularity after being featured in the film ... I beg to disagree, but thank you for your comment. Oneyetiger

I have a lot of built up trauma surrounding religion, and this song used to trigger me so bad I would break down into tears at just the first few seconds of it. I can now proudly say that I can listen to it in its entirety and even sing along to it sometimes :)
I’m proud of you
Religion never did anything to you, people did, so remember that.
God loves us, and will never judge. Its hard to convince yourself something that you've been told a lot. Remember that the Lord is waiting for you with wide and gentle arms, ready to show u his love!
@@hkrojas777 The bible says God will judge everyone. You must live by him and his word in order to be accepted into the kingdom of heaven

Is anyone else’s favorite parts when they say “ITS A COLD AND ITS A BROKEN HALLELUJAH!” Well it’s mine so DEAL WITH IT.
It's a darn good line. Especially the first time when you can hear her voice 'break.'
KC Gaming YEEESSS I looooove when Mitch sings ittttt
My favorite part aswell
I want her to sign my head
Omg its mine too the high pitch when it say and its a broken halleujah I can do so well.

Everything in the bible can be converted to a christian hymn song through the saving grace of our lord and savior Jesus Christ 🙏✝️

I listen when I need something to be for a while. This song makes me whole, and I listen to it when I'm tired of being broken.
I could listen to all day. It brings me to tears and at the same time lifts me
Omg mitches voice 😍😍😍😭 ; I can rewind his part 1000000× over and over again 🤣
That’s what I was doing lol
It's hard to match his voice I've been practicing and practicing and I'm not even close
Thank you for making this, it's a true masterpiece.
All I can do rn is this
*hug*
I'm so sorry for your loss 😢
No grief deep enough nor joy with limits to keep us from celebrating all of life... Thank you for the reminder. This forever. Amen.
I don't have money to burn, but if I did I would take singing lessons just to learn how to sing this song. It is just one of the most beautiful songs I have ever listened to.
This is the best version i've heard of hallelujah plz keep going
Im in love with that girl's voice
Glory be to God for the talented man using his body to make the beautiful sounds. Blessings to all. I love this version of alleluia. Congratulations. Amen 🙏🏽
This song is not a masterpiece, it's a treasure!
The best there is. I could listen to u guys all the time. Your voices r music to my ears.🙏God bless you 🙏 ❤
I sang this song for my church during your Christmas program and this was the video I came to practice.
Beautiful voices, with such amazing harmony together. Much love.
Mitch's voice omg it gives me chills ❤
My favorite Pentatonix song - their version is the best.
Just curious, have you ever heard Small Town Titans’ Cover? It’s substantially slower, but I feel like that style fits the song better.
@@nobodycares6817 Just listened to it and it's good but this Pentatonix version is still my favorite. Maybe part of that is the fact that it is acapella except for their own voices making the music.
Linda Rakestraw: Im glad you gave it a shot, lol. Pentatonix’s version is still good, so I can understand why it’s your favourite.
NoBody Cares what are the lyrics saying?

My buddy got me to go back to church since we’ve been away from home on military orders for the last 9 months and looking forward to our Sunday service makes everything so much easier I’m so glad I found my way back to Christ. 🙌🏼
Well I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this:
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to her kitchen chair
And she broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
But baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
You know, I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do ya
But remember when I moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Jenny Jones I’m almost a year late to your comment but when the song gets written out like that you then realize how many times they say “hallelujah”
This song is so amazing I love it I have listened to it daily since I
Thanks for commenting the lyrics on a lyric video
I thought this was a lyric video lol
Yeah we watched the video 🙄
I love this song.
All in all you literally make the best lyric videos I've ever seen - this is so aesthetically pleasing and beautiful to watch!
a god* just to keep myself consitent, you know?
Yeah that's what I assumed when making the lyric video but then I looked up the original lyrics on google and its capitalized. So I guess it could go either way. Thanks for watching :)
Kaitlyn You should look up the meaning to the song and you would probably understand what they're talking about a bit better.
SonnyTolo I do understand the song, I just don't think it's fair that people would rather criticize for that rather than appreciating the video and the song, whether it's god or God.
God has a name you know. Its like me calling you Human instead of Kim.
These guys are so AWESOME!!! THIS song is truly Beautiful how they sing it with no music just their own voices.these guys should get an musician award just for their voices alone...LOVE THESE GUYS
I'm an atheist but I think the love that people show for Jesus is absolutely beautiful especially thru a song as beautiful as this
What a sad but beautiful comment. Its why Jesus came in the flesh
thanks for this!
Of course! You're welcome :)
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
So sweet to the ears, ❤love to listen again and again, but folks don't get confuse it's not a worship song we cannot worship GOD with this song.. The lyrics about king David is so pleasing to the ears👏👏👏👏👏👏
