This year I was still shutting Normanby yard 1993 become a guard 97 a driver still driving 2024 love the job thanks for the upload bring back a lot of memories of yesteryear❤
The thing that I adore most from these pictures is that Brisbane seemed to be stuck in time: it was the 90s, yet, scenes looked like it came from the 60s.
Thanks Andrew...wonderful video of a wonderful era of Queensland Rail. ...I would dearly love to see a similar type of video of the old Gold Coast Railway...from South Brisbane to Tweed Heads and all the stations along the way...by way of film or video covering the period up to the end of the steam era. Thanks in advance.
This is a fantastic historical recording. Brisbane looked so different at that time it is sometimes hard to pick out where some of these places are located. Loved that car going over Petrie bridge.
Thanks Andrew for a great view back into history. At around 24'30" there is a shot of a low flying aircraft with the preceding shot showing a 'typical' view of Flinders Peak from around the Amberley area. QANTAS used to do pilot training with 747s at RAAF Amberley during the 90s. They would do a sequence of touch-and-go landings over a period of about 2 hours. I think you've captured one of the aircraft on approach or in circuit for one of these landings. At one stage I had an office about 300m from the runway. I was amazed at how quiet the 747s were (compared to an F-111). Considering the changes that time has brought, being able to compare how places like Rosewood looked in the past is fantastic. Thanks again. KD
I remember when Roma St. Was fully Steam ( late 50sEarly 70s)...Diesel only coupled up to finished consists forthe Northern Line. Especially interesting was the Shunting Hump at the Normanby End. Watching Shunters/Brakemen riding the Brake levers to slow the waggons down as they coasted into their allocated sidings. Those were the days...
What a fantastic compilation of trains in and around SEQ, special mention of the XPT at the 45 minute mark half SRA half CountryLink livery and great footage of the ICE including the rare EMU hybrid. Thanks for sharing!
Wow I know that some of the locos in the video ended up in good old NZ and onto Tasmania and those old suburban carriages ended up in Auckland before electric trains started running in Auckland, cheers mate
great footage aside from seeing trains in 92' the thing that intrigues me is the changes in landscape especially around roma st station and the station itself
1992? .... 16:22 have fond memories of the Heildon train right back to the early 1970's, not least because it was the first train I went on that actually had a toilet.
Not sure if those loco’s are 3500’s but Aurizon still use some for coal trains on the Goonyella line. Crap loco’s as they surge when loading coal in wagons,it was always a challenge.
Hi Andrew, thanks for the Sub, I've subbed back! I loved this video of QR nearly 30 years ago! I was there in '88 (as a kid) and '95 (as a much younger adult) and loved what I saw everytime! I plan to watch your other QR videos over coming days and weeks. 😍
Tonight I watched Brisbane 1992 - Part 2 and was enthralled by virtually every scene! I saw 1524 there, which was the motive power for my last ever ride on an SX set in QR service in 1999 after coming down from Toowoomba in car 1524 on the Westlander! Oh the memories!!! 😂😍😁 (LOVE 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖 the EMU horns! They have to be some of the best - if not *THE BEST* suburburban train horns in the world!)
I spent many an hour sitting at Zillmere, bowen hills, and the like counting the many many carriages on the heavily laden diesel pulled freight trains. The smell of frightened animals mingling with the heat of the day and the diesel. My kids have no understanding of how i reminisce about this slightly simpler internet free time....
Great footage. I'm guessing the old red rattlers were out of service by this time. I grew up near a train station and still remember hearing all the doors slamming shut just before leaving the station.
i feel like platform 1 and 2 aren't very active anymore at Roma street and i'm wondering why? can anyone explain? i really wish platform 1 and 2 to be active again, and the only time i remember platform 1 and 2 being used is when the XPT service is there.. i think
Just wondering what station you were filming at around the 34:00 mark? I'm thinking Caboolture line but I can't place where. It's changed a lot since they put in the third track.
I was thinking Carseldine too. The current station is quite different but the shelters were very Caboolture Line. I don't recall seeing them on any other lines.
At 33:24 train number 29 seen arriving at Carseldine, this video was shot in 1992, this set was already 13 years and here in 2019 it is still operating and its 41 years old....................even set number 01, built in 1978 is still operating.....no wonder Trains in Brisbane are a laughing stock they keep trains on the line until they are about to fall apart, and ALL TRAINS IN BRISBANE ARE ILLEGAL AS THEY DO NOT MEET THE AUSTRALIAN DISABILITY STANDARDS
No, it was just the NGRs that had the problem with the disability standards recently. And they are refitting those to comply with the standards Not only that, but the EMU sets are being retired, but they are still decent trains.
We gonna forget the S sets in Sydney are on to their 46th year in service, and they have only JUST been removed from timetabled operation? They are still technically in service. Again in Sydney, the older Rattlers were 67/68 when they were finally taken off the network in the early 1990's. The Hitachi fleet in Melbourne were 42 when the last Hitachi was retired in early 2014. Again in Melbourne, the older Tait carriages entered service as early as 1910, and lasted until 1984. They were wooden carriages too. There are probably a few other examples, but the EMU's are not as bad as you are making them out to be. Besides, they are currently being retired, and scrapping of them has commenced (EMU16, EMU62 and EMU72 are all now scrapped).

Sadly the modern world caught up with QR
Golden years of QR - you could see technology from many decades, and some insanely inefficient working practices. Thanks for uploading.

Wow quite interesting to see all the louvered box cars and other old rolling stock

Irony is that XPT train is still operating over that bridge to this day. Likewise the ICE set to Gympie north still struggling on in 2020.
Still crosses that bridge at 6:02am daily.

Great video. I've worked on pretty much all of them.
those silver bullets lasted a long time

Brisbane was an interesting place back. Now I have zero motivation to go back. Loved your Dresden video I was there in 99.

great stuff buddy 👍
very nice video..... I thoroughly enjoyed.... thanks ...
35:50 MY004 Track Recording Machine... when it was new!!! That was my first unit I worked on 23 years ago. It's about to be retired I believe.
What was its purpose?
driven most QR things except the tilts, but to this day would love to try a 3900+SX set around briso....4000hp and only 400t fewwwe
Just on a power trip. Most staff are either friendly and helpful or just ignore railfans
Good memories here. Coming up to my 31st year with QR (2nd May).
jswaggart01 I wanna get in it
What station is that at 33:40 (which has EMU 29 stopping)?
Carseldine
Great footage. I'm guessing the old red rattlers were out of service by this time. I grew up near a train station and still remember hearing all the doors slamming shut just before leaving the station.
pswich - Gatton in 1993. Properly gone from the electrified area by the mid 80's

Unsure, But I think your right with Carseldine. The station staff at Petrie didn't like me filming the Sunlander so I left and headed south.
Wonder why they do not like you to film
Are you sure this was 92? Never seen an electric loco hauling those silver sets at that time it was all or mostly EMU's.
@@thedave7760 Yes 1992 is correct
Just wondering what station you were filming at around the 34:00 mark? I'm thinking Caboolture line but I can't place where. It's changed a lot since they put in the third track.
I was wondering also , but looks a bit like old Carseldine
I was thinking Carseldine too. The current station is quite different but the shelters were very Caboolture Line. I don't recall seeing them on any other lines.
@@andrewduffin9216 Yes its Carseldine before the bus terminus and the 502 was at the tafe.
But will the next generation trains last that long.
Roma street looks small back then
3:54 are they still in service?
Only on coal trains in central Queensland
@@andrewsurgenor1294 I typed it up and your right
Oh my... 43:50... that city skyline.... So much missing?!!! wow it's changed ***Edit, thats looking over Mt Coot-tha, but still...***
That coal train would of came from Toowoomba ❤️
Brisbane to lpswich line l went
I used to paint those beasts. From Ipswich to city everybody knew my name!
