Location: Poland
Date of recording: July 2022
About my work - I remove beaver dams when I receive an order from a state organization.
I do not choose which dam to remove. It is decided by officials at the request of nearby residents. Each dam is assessed in advance if it can and if should be dismantled.
Removing the dam is not a threat to beavers. I do not remove their houses - lodges.
Dams are removed only in places where beavers cause damage, for example by flooding nearby fields, flooding the basements of nearby houses, or when the stream on which beavers built their dam is degraded.
Even though beavers are very invasive animals, they are under strict protection in our country.
I personally like all animals, so beavers are fine too.

That was an incredible job! I really enjoy the longer videos, but I could tell how hot the weather was and could only imagine how bad the flies were biting! I don't mind the excavator videos, but I appreciate the art of manual removal the best.
In fact, it was one of the heaviest ones I've removed last season - but not the hardest so I have another longer section to edit, but I'll do that sometime in the future 😉

Wow, that was certainly a lot of work. I admire your hard work. Do you have to look out for venomous snakes at all? We only have one breed of venomous snake here in the UK and they're quite shy. Have a wonderful day, best regards.
Of poisonous snakes, in Poland we only have vipers - but fortunately I rarely meet one. I'm more afraid of ticks - because they carry various nasty diseases.

Maciej my friend, I had to pause this so many times while watching and preparing lunch for Sunday company. 🤪 I’m sharing some outdoor advice someone gave me years ago. Don’t wear:
#1 dark colours
#2 perfume/aftershave. Avoid anything with scent, including fabric softener.
#3 mosquitoes are attracted to the pheromones we secrete from the sweat glands so, no matter what you do, they’ll get you! 😂

I hope you use insect repellent. You never know the illness mosquitoes and flies can give. Be careful. Stay safe.
Fortunately, mosquitoes do not transmit diseases in Poland. The only thing to be afraid of is ticks.

Fantastic job!!! I have removed a few beaver dams in the past, I know how hard it is. My first thought when I saw that location was to say, "watch out for snakes".
with the amount of branches and logs, dirt, matted down vegetable matter, all that mass that you're throwing from the job site, I'm amazed at your shoulders holding up. Do you work out by throwing tree trunks or similar?
I will answer you this way, I used to be very active physically, I am a physical education teacher by education - but I have never worked in this profession. So I have some preparation for such work, besides, I've done various physical jobs around the house all my life, so I'm not afraid of removing beavers like that 😉💪🦾

We commonly call these flies in Poland - horse flies. Once they are so big. And two, that they most often inhabit pasture cattle and other wild animals. Damn, it turns out that they treat me like a wild animal 😁😁

You did a great job, however I'm curious, if it's old and deep in the forest, why bother?
This particular stream is the so-called relief channel, i.e. it is needed to drain water during the spring thaw, or when there is heavy rainfall and the water could not fit in the main stream.
I don't determine which beaver dams are to be removed - but the managers of the areas, and they know their areas well - and there is always a good reason to do the job.

9 months later , a backhoe 15 mins no sore body , but great work
As it happens, I was in the same place yesterday to remove that dam again. Now during the spring thaw the water level is very high - so this time I got the job done in about 30 minutes, maybe less.

Dismantling beaver dam by hand is too lengthy & boring to watch compared to an excavator or backhoe!
You can't compare it, it's a completely different job.
