    Larry Holmes fought everyone put in front of him, unlike the champs now in the heavyweight division . 70's, 80's, and 90's those were some golden times in the heavyweight division.

      The most underappreciated champion ever. Those really were golden times for the heavyweights too. If you'd like to relive those times, Id appreciate if you'd check out these chronologies of the 70s and 90s.

    The coolest thing about Mike Tyson is he never gives you a bland, run of the mill answer when asked a question, there is always honesty and thought in his answers. So refreshing when most athletes give you the uninteresting scripted , predictable answers.

    • @lawrenceigboekwe7208
      @lawrenceigboekwe7208 4 роки тому +1

      Thomas Quinn; Desiree Washington may not agree, but that’s, absolutely, not the sum of everything. Not to defend or, in any way, attempt to extenuate the actions of a young and exuberant Mike, but who knows what actually happened. Remember that he fired his promoter, Bill Clayton, who was collaborating with Robin Givens and her mother, Ruth Roper, to exploit him. Remember that they frustrated him, so much, to the extent that he was thought mental. If you’re not too young, you will remember an interview he had together with his then wife, Robin, when they, corroboratively, made him to take some psychotropic medication, to make him appear psychotic. In that interview, he appeared delusional, and rambled. It was after the ensuing divorce that he fired Bill Clayton, subsequently, firing his Trainer, Kevin Rooney, for protesting the firing of Cayton. I tell this story, to say that Mike, subsequently, filled his camp, with his Home Boys, who failed to give him enough protection and guidance, thereby, allowing the allegation, to even occur. The poor, vulnerably guy was from the rough streets of Bedstuy, in Brooklyn, remember? Such promising individuals are treated like an asset and, vigorously, protected by their camps or exploiters, to the extent that they monitor his activities, especially, when with women, by positioning themselves, even in the closet. This was lacking, because those boys were his buddies, who were not experienced enough or just not able to control, and adored him. If he, actually, did abuse the young lady, they could have stopped it, before it happened, if the necessary precautions had been taken. He could have been either set up or framed, occasioned by an opposing camp, who might not even mind, poisoning him. Some of her fellow beauty contestants stated that the girl came back to their hostel, after the date with Mike, excited. It was only afterwards, when she must have been advised, that she came up with the rape allegation. On the whole, even though the prison term spelt his downfall, as a boxer, he surely came out, a better person that he is, today - a good husband of a beautiful wife, and Doctor, a good father, to his children and one of the most loved celebrities of recent phenomenon.

  • @adeanjy4155
    @adeanjy4155 9 років тому +69

    Larry Holmes was a great champion, no doubt about that; my beef with him is his consistent refusal to acknowledge Mohammed Ali's greatness, and indeed superiority, simply because he was Ali's sparring partner when he was younger. He talks proudly about beating Ali when Ali was 38, old and retired and uses that to dismiss Ali's greatness, however he uses the same age and retirement to excuse his loss to a younger Tyson when he, holmes was 38 and retired. Nobody who understands boxing would ever say that Holmes could stand a chance against an Ali in his prime. Larry Holmes should exercise some humility and give respect to whom respect is due, familiarity breeds contempt.

      @jonathanwhite1265 9 років тому +29

      Adejuwon Anjoorin Please read Holmes book. Holmes credits Ali for allowing him to be his sparring partner. It goes both ways. Ali was not humble. Ali kept telling people that Holmes was still his sparring partner. Ali could never give his student credit. After the Holmes vs. Scott Ledoux fight, Ali started bashing Holmes to the crowd and called him a peanut on Merv Griffin. Holmes could have thrown the righthand and sent Ali to the hospital. After the fight with Cosell, Holmes cried about beating his teacher on national TV. He did not celebrate with wine and Cool & the Gang playing in the background.

      Holmes said that Ali never really trained that hard for his fights, and the fight in Zaire he only put a solid 2 weeks in. He said that had Ali been training like he should have, Ali would have been even greater than what he was.

    I'm amazed by Mike's level of consciousness. I liked him when he was a boxer but now I really like his cause, what he stands for. Because really he shows America how hard it's for a black person to make it. Boxing isn't the main topic really, boxing is just the mean to get from point A to point B. The main issue is the various obstacles a young black person faces in life.

    Good to see these guys doing well. Its hard to compare fighters from different eras. Who achieved more? Larry achieved more than almost any other HW. Larry had greatness and longevity. Could he beat Mike in their primes? I dont think so. Styles make fjghts, too. But Larry still ranks higher in my GOAT HW list. Buster beat Tyson, but would not make anyones top 20. Tyson spiraled down after Cus' death. His title win was basically the last influence of Cus' work. I imagine what he could have accomplished had he had Cus' guidance throughout his career.

    Tyson is an amazing guy. He hadn't taken many beatings, and has turned his life into being a father, and husband. He has amassed some wealth and income. This is after losing everything, probably numerous times. He's not crazy rich like he used to be, but he has a wealth of knowledge, and a lovely family. That is, exactly what he needs, from an emotional standpoint. He earns enough to provide. IF smart , not get into tax trouble. I did some amateur boxing and was poor as a kid. Not as poor as him, or, living in Brownsville Brooklyn. Our surroundings will shape us. Kids without daddies will eventually find there own way. They see what is around them and try to be that, or not that. Many have no choice. That's why so many spend their life in and out of jail and prison. They can get into boxing clubs like these guys did. There you get direction, discipline, respect and time off the street. You become a family.

    Im so glad Mike found hapiness. A lot of these rich pricks that just have everything handed to them and have NO respect for the struggles and difficulties other people face, I have little respect for them, but Mike had every good reason to end up a looser, prostitute mom, missing father, raised poor, low self esteem, all the wrong friends and yet he choose to make something of himself. Just keeping your head above water is hard enough in this life, so to excel at such at high level, coming from nothing, I have nothing but respect for.........all these guys who fight their way out of poverty. Wishing you all the happiness in the world Mike, whatever that might be for you.

      Lenny Jackson Holmes never had respect for anybody. He just wants to be loved and he will never be. Watch the difference and listen about the fight they remember best. Holmes said Norton cause he won and... Well you know... Mike said Buster Douglas and explained why. A classy man and an asshole in that studio that evening.

    When mike said it’s all objective and that he had no mercy on his opponent because it’s not personal. Imagine if it was him fighting Ali instead of Holmes that night. That would of been real sad because Ali would of been murdered in front of the world and knocked out cold in humiliating brutal fashion.
