- In todays video we are floating and setting a dining room in a Victorian Town House.
Before the float and set we plasterboard (drywall) the ceiling and finally finish the room off with some Gyproc coving.
So come take a look how to float a wall.

Proper plastering.
It’s shocking how many dot and dab merchants call themselves plasterers
Great job 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Pva on the finished ceiling.??Surely this will grin through the paint??
No actually infact lots of people PVA the whole room to seal it before painting instead of a mist coat. Also without it the cove adhesive wouldn't properly adhere
I'm a professional plasterer with more than 20 years experience and all I can say is: gooooood job boys
Nice job as always chaps but personally would not have used a gypsum backing plaster in a property of that age, would have used sand amd cement with water proofer in... 👍
That's interesting, we do tend to learn on the go so I do have a few blind spots. So when would you use bonding as a backing plaster? Just on new build?
@@ryanseeley i would only put gypsum based backing coat on the substrate when it has been built with a damp course... If the property has a retrospective damp course (injected) then the backing needs to ne water and salt resistant...
Ah ok I get that thanks. I hear lots of plasterers debate weather you can skim s&c before it's fully cured or not. Do you let it fully dry before skimming?
@@ryanseeley we leave it 2 weeks before skimming buddy .. Its more about curing than drying..
Thanks Si, appreciate the advice 👍
Fantastic video lads. Good work done 👍👍
Class job lads, rare these days to see plasterers float and skim. What straight edge so you use? I find those cheap ones abit weak and can easily bend out of shape
Definitely pot heads 🤣 fair plays lads love the vids 👍
I can neither confirm or deny your accusations 😂 thanks man!
As suggested earlier on probably would have gone down the sand and cement road. Just a suggestion lads. Still a cracking job. 👍.. Er, forgive the "cracking" pun😅😅👍👍👍
😂 🤞🤞 thanks mate
is it ok to mix thistle hardwall & bonding plaster together - in equal amounts - and then apply to pva'd brickwork???
No, unfortunately they don't react well together.
why not hardwall lads!?
It's was all we could get ahold of at the time 👍
Looking forward to this! 😁
Hope you enjoy it!
Hi. Brilliant, how much u charge only one room skimming 15ft by 15ft?
Hi, thanks. There are many factors bit if we are working locally we would usually charge around £600-£650 for a room that size including the ceiling or £450-£550 for just walls. Obviously it's impossible to say exactly without seeing it but that's a tough guide to what we charge.
nice work guy's
Good Video Tonight 👍
Thanks Andrew 👍
Nice work mate! Do you not normally devil float your backing plaster ?
Thanks mate, yeah we did actually lightly devil float the bonding but it didn't show up well on camera
doesn't really need it - it is good practice but I feel skimming on top of bonding without never fails either :)
Great job that lads, plasterer based in Watford 👊
Thanks dude! 👍
💯👍👍
👊
Did it not pull in like fuck on bonding?
No we just 2 coated it with thickish PVA first and it was fine
@@ryanseeley grey bonding tends not to be as harsh
How do you plaster the wall without installing the directors (beacons)? How do you make sure it is plumb??? It will be like propeller :)))))))
Cuz they not yanks !!! What the fuck are beacons lol 🤯🤯🤯
@@steved6472, well I translated it from Russian language. In Russian language those directors are called маяк (direct translation is beacon). The idea is first install thin metal rods (here in states I use 8 to 10 feet aluminum 1/2 inch corner as i could not find anything better) imbedded into the same plaster. distance between those rods should be a bit shorter then length of your featheredge for example if your featheredge is 1meter 50 cm then distance between beacons (metal rods should be around 1m and 30cm). Of cause all those metal rods must be in the same plane. Methods for installing those rods in the same plane could be different. One of the most modern is using modern 3D Laser levels. In Eastern Europe those metal beacons are sold in home improvements stores. Here is the link as to how to install beacons but it is in Russian, however you can get the idea. Start from 5:20 if you do not speak Russian and you visually understand what I am talking about. Before that time they explain their method how to make sure all beacons (metal rods) are in the same plane. ua-cam.com/video/p6kwm58N6X0/v-deo.html. So basically after installing those beacons you do not have to guess the position of your featheredge. Just put one side on one beacon and the other on the other and you will get plumb and flat wall
