Well, he knows how much Rayla and all Xadians hate dark magic and he himself saw how much that kind of magic can corrupt people. Look at Claudia: she started out and is still acting with the best intentions at heart, but she resorted to means that show she is going down a dangerous path
After watching season 5, at the end of the 8th episode Callum seemed frightened and worried about dark magic, Rayla even checked on him, but after they hugged you can see Callum's upset face. In season 6 is when Aaravos and Callum will make connection, as Viren has left Aaravos, and since they failed to find his prison, his next reach will be Callum. In season 4 Callum also asks Rayla to kill him if things go wrong and Aaravos also said in season 4 that Callum is his favourite member and already hinted with dark magic, to be fair I was expecting this in season 5, but after all these hints its pretty obvious Callum will get cursed season 6. I also want to see Callum use dark magic again, as the only time he did was in season 2 or 3, maybe this is how Aaravos wanted Callum to join his side "forcefully" by doing dark magic, when Aaravos does reach him he will make him use dark magic. I'm so doped for season 6 because my fav character is Callum and we didn't get to see much of him this season. Then Rayla will probably try to snap Callum out of it, so Rayllum fans be prepared because this is gonna be a fun ride! I kind of wish though season 6 would come out earlier because most likely we are expecting it in 2024.
Yeah I think this too. It was confirmed in a Q&A that Aaravos was able to possess Callum because of the residual dark magic inside him. Since he's used dark magic again this should mean Aaravos will be able to have a stronger influence over him and now that team Zym have his prison that means he will be in close proximity to Callum which combined with the stronger connection will probably mean Callum is in for an identity crisis season

I agree. And so far the only person to use all forces of magic including dark magic, was Aaravos. Nobody else was ever able to unlock more than one primal source. Now that Callum is Aaravos's biggest match, like you said, it would be nice to see him turn to the other side, and later switch back to defeat Aaravos.
I bet season 6 will be where Aaravos starts reaching out to Callum and it will be because hes used dark magic again and strengthened the connection Aaravos has to him.

Callum did what he did because Rayla dove in headfirst into a situation she wasn't fully prepared for. Had she never attempted to rescue Pyrrah (the red dragon Soren shot down),then this wouldn't have happened. He also wouldn't have learned how to connect to the Sky Arcanum. Funny how that works.

But i have the theory that every mage can use primal magic but, since dark magic drains other beings' magic to create spell, it stops the mage from understanding the other arcani because, in their mind, they do not need to understand it to squeeze power out of creatures that already have it. Callum refused to do so and so he opened himself to learning, to seek another way, to create primal magic without having to sacrifice anything. But i do not know what will happen now that he used it again

My bet, Rayla suspects, but is trying to trust Callum and give himthe space to deal with it. The only question I have is why previous dark mages failed to connect to arcana through dark magic the way he did? Its like they were stuck on the threshold if you think of it like that...
My theory is that he is a half elf bcz we don't know who is his father or it can be from his mother's side maybe that's why he can use primal magic and ex can also talk to animals as it is not NORMAL for a human to talk to animals and understanding them so I think there mother was also an half elf maybe 🤔
I think it has to do with the coma dream. Claudia implied that anyone who uses dark magic for the first time goes through it, probably for them to psychologically grapple with what they’ve done. How they handle it determines what happens next. Callum might have been the first on record to reject the continuous use and instead used it to come to a deeper understanding of the Sky arcanum.
I see it more like this, when callum uses dark magic, his body becomes say sensitized to the area around him, first time he was higher in altitude, and using dark magic was kinda a Spark to unlock the arcanum, same thing happened on finnegrins ship, this time actually attack by ocean magic, and being surrounded by the ocean, helped him unlock the ocean arcanum
Rayla doesn't have to like Dark Magic, however,she needs to open up her mind that she was the one who pushed Callum into this corner by being impulsive here when she's the only one who knows how to properly navigate through Xadia And more importantly, she needs to realize that sometimes in order to do the right thing, your morals don't matter more than living,breathing people you say that you care about. I don’t really think rayla was thinking of herself when she went to save the dragon. What rayla did was impulsive indeed,but callum made the decision to use dark magic. It isn’t her fault he did dark magic because it was something he felt he had to do because he wanted to learn how to do magic again. Also, Rayla does apologize for her actions in this scene, she was more worried because callum himself does not want to do dark magic because even if it was a small spell it can turn into an obsession ex claudia and viren. I think this scene set up his own arc and what he would do by choosing his own destiny. Don’t mean to come off rude or anything, just my take :))

Calum started using dark magic for him for helping his family and friends but he does know the consequences of that action and he does care who suffer when that magic is happening But when Claudia or Veron use dark magic, they don’t care about the damages that caused they only care about using it to save each other and nothing else
Claudia was caring about animals and you should have seen her suffering and crying because of the horrid things she did to save her brother and father. She has talked about it. This is her arc. She begins to tolerate bringing pain to animals to save the people she loves. Succumbing to darkness is tragic but I think show is great in showing it.

Idk why but dark magic seems more powerful than all other magics besides star magic but is the most rudimentary. It can achieve great feats and even beat dragons but finding and collecting specialized objects to make spells work is tedious compared to a human using a primal source or piece of magic to cast normal magic.
He doesn’t like doing but we all know he’s gunna do it three more times to connect the to the Earth, Sun and Moon And one more if he tries to connect to the Stars

Honestly I would've liked if dark magic was discovered by humans without help and not demonize it, in real world scientists use animals to experiment many things that would benefit us so i think it would be a good "parallel" between real humans and the humans from the dragon prince.
