Thanks, Emil. I'm super pleased with this Nikitas Gift. It's naturally a compact variety but still produces lots fruit. You're right, they are stunning after the foliage has dropped. In the next couple of weeks I expect these fruits will take on an even deeper red colour.
I'm so so pleased to have purchased this tree because since the UK left the European Union they are impossible to buy here now ... Yes, Nikita definetly gifted me this wonderful tree. It's perfect for my tiny garden and the fruit is superb. 😂
It's such a pretty colour. I'm very happy with it. You were so lucky to live there. Japan is the home of persimmons, I will definetly visit sometime to experience the beautiful countryside, food and culture.
Its a wonderful tree, Peter .... I'm over-the-moon to have a Nikitas Gift. Because of my tiny garden I needed a variety that stays compact so this NG is perfect for me. The fruit is very sweet and gooey, just the way I like my persimmons.
Oh, wow. I'm excited for you. It really sounds like you're going to get fruits this year. You'll love them. When ripe, I like to pick them then leave on the kitchen counter for a few days, this really brings out the flavour.
Thanks for the update. The fruit looks beautiful! Our Nikita's Gift is flowering for the first time this summer, so I'm hoping we'll have fruit here too come the autumn.
Thank you, Aranya. You're in for a real treat. I discovered they really taste great when after being picked, they are left on the countertop for a couple of days. Keeping my finges crossed your tree produces this year.
Fabulous and substantial amount of fruit on the tree. My Rojo Brillante has fruited for the first time, so I too am looking towards the first tasting of my first ever home grown Persimmon. 🤩🤩
Oh wow, Mike. I forgot you had a Rojo Brilliante, that's so cool it's flowered and fruited for you. That's such a rare tree to have here in the UK so you're very fortunate to have it, I think it's literally impossible to buy one since Brexit. I tried the Rojo Brilliante fruit from Joes tree and it was excellent.
That's so awesome you have the same tree in Surrey. I really hope they'll become more popular in the UK as many people I speak to have never heard of these trees. 👍🏽 The fruits are wonderful. I find they're best after leaving in the kitchen for a couple of days to get really soft.
Thank you, this is a great variety of Persimmon. I got mine from an online store based in Switzerland, called Lubera. Unfortunately they don't ship to the UK anymore. 'Agroforestry research trust' based in Devon sometimes stock them .... however they only sell trees once a year ... it might be an idea to send them an email to find out when they will be stocking them next.
I first learned of this variety from U.S based UA-cam videos so I would expect it's available in Cali but it might take a little hunting for it. I know there are some import / export controls there from other states. If you haven't already, check out the 'Ockoo Farm' UA-cam channel he may be able to help. He's a specialist in PawPaw and persimmons. He's based in Massachusetts but may have connections or contacts for grafted persimmons in your location. His email address is also available on his page. Wishing you the best of luck.
Thats a really good quality looking fruit Dom, and it convinces me that my 'Nikita's Gift' is most likely not what it's meant to be. The fruits on mine are smaller, much lighter orange and in fact look exactly the same as my Morris Burton pure American persimmon. I fear that as a UK grown tree I was most likely sold an incorrectly propagated sapling. My Morris Burton persimmons are more pumpkin like in my opinion rather than being extremely sweet 😳
Oh, this NG was extremely sweet ... Nearly as sweet as the Sharon I had a couple of weeks back. ... 'Almost too sweet'. I tried the skin on this fruit (off camera) and the marking seen on the video tasted like mould ... that was the only down side ... I think this occurred because it was sandwiched tight between other fruit, it didn't effect the inner flesh... Fortunately none of the other fruit seem to have this damage. That's a real shame about your NG, Agroforestry are usually pretty good but I suppose mistakes can happen.
@@MoebiusUK actually I'm not sure it came from Agroforestry, I'll have to look at the label when I'm next outside. I believe my Hana Fuyu from agroforestry is yet another Morris Burton 🤪😂. Perhaps I'll know better as they get bigger so I can compare the fruits better
Oh my goodness! It looks so good - crazily sweet! -And what an amazing amount of persimmons, especially if it is the first time it has fruited for you. How old is your tree?
Thanks, Dani ... Its one of those fruits that is ridiculously sweet. Yes, these Persimmons are quite prolific once they get going. I just checked my emails to double check when I got it ... Purchased in Spetember 2020 from Lubera for £48. Not sure how old it was before then but pretty sure it wasn't much more than a thin stick.
@@nolosswes Fantastic ... I subbed to your channel yesterday so look forward to following the progress of not only your American persimmons but also your PawPaw, figs and other plants. The Nikitas Gift is a hybrid between the American and Asian Persimmons. It's a good cold hardy variety, if you manage to find a scion to graft onto one of your Diospyros Virginiana, it's definetly an option.
This variety is a hybrid cross between your native American Persimmon and the Asian Persimmon. The American Persimmon is grown in USDA hardiness zones of 4-9. Asian Persimmons are less hardy and are grown in zones 7 and above. Hybrids will fall in between. My particular tree easily survived -7C (19.4F) last December with no visible signs of damage. If your winters get much colder than that I would suggest either consider getting an American Persimmon variety or asking others growing hybrid persimmons in your local area if they have had success.
Hopefully I get to taste an American Persimmon someday. Must be great to live where they grow wild. My tree is a hybrid. Diospyros virginiana x Diospyros kaki.
What a lovely tree, look stunning with all the fruits on the bare branches 😍

Just planted my Nikita Feb 2024.
Awesome. You're in for a real treat.
I planted a Nokia's Gift in my yard in December 2023. I'm expecting great things from it in the coming years. 😋😋😋

Will this grow in zone 5 in Wisconsin?

Was this grown from seed? How long did it take to reap a harvest?
This is from a grafted tree. The variety is called 'Nikitas Gift' and it took 1-2 years to fruit after planting.
you dont have squirrels?
Thankfully not ... I've only ever seen one squirrel in my garden in 10 years. lol
I was pleased to see him but grateful he never came back.😂
What state???
This is London, UK .... Although these trees can probably be grown in most (if not all) U.S states.
