  • Today we're taking a look at the new Empire rework for The Supreme Patriarch himself, Balthazar Gelt! It has him starting out in Cathay, with many new dilemmas, magical abilities and a brand new Colleges of Magic mechanic.
The changes and features will launch in a patch alongside the upcoming Thrones of Decay DLC(s). (Release date unconfirmed as of writing this description, but it'll probably be a couple of weeks or so)

I tend to agree about the magic forests. Imperial authority should only apply to land that the Empire "should" hold. They've never once held the actual forests themselves, just the land around them. Since they're already one region provinces, just take them off the list, at least as far as a penalty towards authority. If they were part of bigger provinces, then maybe I could see it, but they're already separate, just have them be completely separate, aside from trade, just like how the lore works.

I don't mind the magical forests being counted as empire land since not owning them is a cause for unrest with certain elector counts which I think is what the mechanic is going for.

Except it doesn't care if the Empire's forts are in the Empire's hands, Helmgart of which is actually a city in it's own right. The security for their borders against rampaging orcs is like meh, but a forest they've never set foot in inhabited by folks they have millennia long peace with is enough for the Empire to be in turmoil? Sorry but it just doesn't add up to me.

You make a great point on those things being included and honestly reading that I'm inclined to agree, but also they can both be included.

I deffo think the forts should be marked, but I’m not too fussed either way, I think maybe a good compromise would be if they counted, and it would improve imperial unity if you own them, but will take you over 100 IA I when the empire is united

I'm very happy for Vlad&Friends because after that they'll all become some fancy gold teeth! 😛😛😛

Make the suggestion to CA, Janet! Remove both Magical forrests and add the three forts instead.

the empire and wood elves don't have the best relation and both of them would wipe each other out if given the chance just the world doesn't allow for useless war, in a 'perfect' empire the wood elves definitely wouldn't hold the forest, also order factions fighting isn't exactly new in warhammer

There's reason for all nations to be at war with eachother, but there's also far more room for Laurelon and The Empire to have a military alliance. The game shouldn't be making the assumption that a faction that's lived there literally as long as the Empire has existed is a disruptive influence simply by continuing their existence. That doesn't seem within the spirit of the mechanic which is supposed to represent the Empire being united and secure, which it is even if Laurelorn is full of Elves. It's simply never been Empire territory. Your logic could be applied to Bretonnia and would make just as much sense. It's just not cause to label those Forests as part of the Empire, especially considering that the Empire forts aren't required ownership and are far more integral to the Empire being complete.
The only thing I will accept is that label applying to magical forests but being considered fulfilled by an alliance with the inhabitants rather than just the Empire owning it, which currently doesn't seem to be the case. I don't think the system makes any sense otherwise.
