Rod VonBoche in the comments had a great idea and I'd really love if we could share this video around so it gets to ID's attention. The idea (I expanded on it a bit) is to add another slider that adjusts how far you have to move the *right thumbstick* in conjunction with holding the right bumper, before the game opens the weapon wheel. This could be an amazing solution for weapon' wheel snappers such as myself who snap the analogue stick pretty far when selecting a weapon, but only moves the analogue stick slightly during quickswapping.
Being able to have the wheel to register instantly would be wonderful, but also having the wheel registration dependent on stick distance would have the affect of jerking your aim around before you pass the threshold for wheel registration. That's already a common occurrence for players trying to swap through the wheel faster than the delay and that would make it a constant issue.
Yeah I can pb + rocket pretty fast standing still even without pressing at the same time, but when i start moving around its hard not to bring a wrong weapon up. And so you're saying pressing fire and swap at the same time lets you swap between the current two weapons much faster but at the trade off of slower drawing a 3rd weapon, maybe offset the press to almost the same time but a mili-fraction after with the swap button
After watching your neuroscience video I was curious how you were quick swapping. I too love the two buttons at once trick (much easier and faster). It seems to me that depending on the weapons being quick swapped certain weapon wheel delays work better than others. For instance PB/Sticky bombs (120ms)appears to work better at slightly lower wheel delays where as PB/Rockets (150+ ms) works best at higher weapon wheel delays. Any one else notice this? Keep up the great content mate.
Interesting find! I hadn't noticed that. Though I did find that after the last update, true quickswitching is more possible on low wheel delays than before.
I’ve been wondering how to go about using the weapon wheel delay properly, but just haven’t given any time to experiment with it. Glad someone explained it for us console players
That pb+stickies made me jelly, good job man, i also didnt knew about holding the button down to increase firespeed, i always pressed the buttons whenever the weapons were on my screen, thanks for that.
Ayy, very good showcase of Quickswapping dude! Told you it could be done. Definitely agree that the lower weapon wheel delay does mess around with last weapon swapping. Good Video!
@@muricaneagle666 120 is my comfort zone, I find it to have the ideal speed-accuracy tradeoff. But I can't do the True Quickswaps with that delay to save my life.
@@ControllerQuickSwaps Honestly that was me like a few weeks ago, anywhere below 130 and I couldn’t do those True Quickswaps, but lately I’m noticing that I’m trying too hard to quickswap faster and not holding down the Wheel button long enough and end up messing up my swaps, so I may turn it down a notch and experiment with it, or maybe just stick with 130.
@@muricaneagle666 Ideally, ID would actually just make the weapon wheel better lol Hell, they could even just let us bind 'last weapon swap' to another button and that would be a massive help
There is a sweet spot somewhere at about 150ms. That let's you quick swap between 2 weapons and yoi can still open the weapon wheel pretty quick. I also have the Ballista and SS binded to my keypad so I can pull them out quickly for a combo or meathook glory kill or whatever. @M S E is really good at controller and you can see him pull off some 3 weapon combos on his channel. PS You are still fastAF so don't change the channel name😆 Just realized this is from 6 months ago.😅😅😅
@@ControllerQuickSwaps Thanks man, I bumped my horizontal sensitivity to 100 and turned off aim assist. I think now what needs to happen is mastering the quick switch and the types of combos needed. And practice, lots of it
Love your video, you are definitely the best controller player. I made a video for you about my little experience of controller quick swapping, wish it could give you some help.
After checking 1000 videos, it seems like successful quickswappers are in the PS5 camp. Anybody playing on a vanilla xbox one, like me? Maybe the higher framerates have something to do with success here? Share your weapon wheel delay and quick swap tips! My delay is currently 100, and fiddling with it occasionally. New to doom eternal, personally. I have had success pushing dash and melee to the paddles, via the elite controller.
I'm in the Xbox controller camp, but on PC so high fps is definitely a boost. Wheel delay 120. Also really recommend maxing out the horizontal sensitivity.
iiii aaam very dumb! so if you ever see this [sorry if i sound like i wanna be spoiled which i don't,i just need an explanation like a quick run down] please explain- or anyone can really if they understood what happened in the vid.
Ay dont be hard on yourself! This stuff can be tough. The main take away is to quickswap on controller you need to press Right Bumper and Right Trigger *at the same time.* The thing is that this can bring up the weapon wheel, so to practice, maximize your weapon wheel delay.
@@ControllerQuickSwaps oh! now i get it! yeah that's been happening a lot to me,the weapon wheel randomly pops up whenever i try to do that. i hold down on ZR [the right bumper] and R [right trigger] together repeatedly at the same time and the weapon wheel pops up. i did see your pinned comment btw,and i agree that ID should fix how when you flick the stick to a weapon it picks that certain one. sort of like how with 2016 where it was like that and it just worked really well for some reason, which made it so smooth for quick switching on controller for 2016.
These combos are definitely feasible on 100 weapon wheel delay, at least on PS4. Otherwise, the only solution to the problem would be for ID to completely remove the delay, the weapon wheel is immediately active once the button is pressed but cycles between the last two weapons as usual if the joystick isn't pushed in a direction. I'm sure it would have its own setbacks but quickswitching would be more reliable
That's a really smart idea, wow. Yea, having an option that requires RB + a hard right thumbstick tug to open the weapon wheel could be a great solution.
Hi mate✋🏻. I play it on my PS4 FAT version and my fingers is fast enough for weapon quick switching with the lowest weapon wheel delay (70 milliseconds), my video is the proof. But I use only SSG and Balista quick switching, because only this work more consistently and the game doesn't catch up with my fast fingers and sometimes doesn't register shots at all, when I use quick switch with other weapons. I tried to quick switch PB and Balista, and I could quick switch with weapon delay 70 milliseconds, but without shots. I want to say, it strongly depends on FPS too in this game. My console is not enough powerful for this, it bearly handle the game. Sometimes during the sharpest graphical moments or during a bunch of enemies in the map, I can see some FPS drops, and the input lug is bigger. I asked about these issues PS4 Pro and PS5 owners, and they don't have such problems as I have. Especially now on PS5 with 120 FPS is a dream for a console player like me. That's why playing with controller on PC and on consolels is not the same. Good PC is more powerful than consoles (PS4 FAT, XBOX ONE FAT and ESPECIALLY NINTENDO SWITCH IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING), PC can handle more FPS, it has less input lag and better graphics. Playing FPS or TPS games are always harder on consoles than on PC 😉
I use quick swapping in this manner but with a weapon wheel delay of 90 ms. I found that if I play with my fingers not tensed up while quick swapping, I tend to not press the RB for too long to bring the wheel up. It took practice but I feel as though I’m at a point where I’m pretty comfortable using it!
This is what I try to practice most. Using all four shoulders buttons can be VERY DIFFICULT. I've been playing like this for years and I still have problems. When your trying to be gentle and dexterous with your fingers so close together it's extremely frustrating. I swapped the Swap weapon button to Triangle (or Y) I realized how easy it was to swap fast without having to see the wheel. Too bad I can't aim and shoot like that. I would do claw like a use to but my hands are all ready stiff from lack of cartilage after all these years. Why didn't the PS5 controller come with a paddle or a set of buttons underneath. Shit should be mandatory now a days. Never enough buttons for all the PC ports being put on console. Like Diablo 2 Resurrected. Same thing. Console version sucks dick. No lobby. Can't join or create public games. LAME AF.
How do you swap so quickly with the combat shotgun? I use keyboard and mouse and can't get it nearly as fast. There's this weird delay when using the sticky bombs that I can't get over.

Add in ssg meathook jumps while swapping and this old mans fingers seem to have issues lol. Using Xbox elite controller w paddles. Thanks for the video. Still practicing to get it down.
Yea exactly, the lower the wheel delay, the more false positives. I think the last update actually improved this to some degree. But it still takes a lot of practice. Glad you found this helpful :)
