I found Four Thousand Weeks interesting and thought provoking. In particular paying more attention to the fact that with finite time we cannot do or be everything. We need to choose what not to do, as well as what to do.
I also found that really resonated with me. I have a tendency (like most people) to overestimate the time I have to do things and that has made me more thoughtful about how i spend my time lately!
Love your rambling nonsence - it is very soothing. Wrote a long comment with fantasy recs among other stuff abd its disappeared 😂🙈 Anyway by emoji is 🪻
The garden scenery is gorgeous Jack, thanks for sharing😊 I've never read The Color Purple but I've seen the movie years ago. I'll have to read the book and compare it to the movie. I had to check the meaning of TERF 🤣 I'm getting old 🤦♀️ I pray that your move runs smoothly and is as stress-free as possible 💕 May of the moderns, I'm in 🙌
Just checking up on missed comments Kelly and thank you for this one - I am definitely going to try and watch The Color Purple as I hadn’t seen it in years and there are some great performances. Funnily enough, I can’t believe that I didn’t mention the quote about purple in nature from the book which is where the title comes from when I was sharing my beautiful Ceanothus in my garden! “I think it p****** God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.”😂
I had to Google TERF! I’m so not up on today’s terminology. 😅 We are going to read a winner with the lasses ones of these days! Praying and sending you all the good vibes for things to go smoothly with the move🤗 Definitely missing our daily chats about Daevabad. It’s too bad you can’t take a start from the Lilac with you.😢
A California lilac, eh? I wasn't acquainted with lilacs until I moved out and back, funny enough! But just appreciated a gorgeous one yesterday... the scent!!! I'm with you there. Glad you found a buyer and are moving on with things though, that must be a relief ❤
Oh I love the purple bush so much 🥰 hopefully there will be plenty more beautiful bushes in Devon!! So glad we read the Emezi and TCP together, such a brilliant books.
Can’t believe I didn’t mention the Shug quote, “I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it.” when talking about my BPB! Missed a trick there!😂
Your lilac is beautiful!! I bought one last year and it is blooming now… but it is only two feet tall! Totally know how you feel about the posting pressure - I am having such a hard time keeping up with my channel and reading in general lately and I sometimes feel so guilty about it… but why?!? 😅 Loved hearing about Mental health May - I hadn’t heard of that one yet but have struggled with an anxiety disorder for most of my life so I 😊love that it is becoming more understood and talked about as the years to by. Loved hearing about your reading and how things are going for you. Best of luck on your upcoming move! 🏡 ❤
Thank you for this Talia - I am just catching up on comments after my move! We put so much pressure on ourselves, don’t we? As a fellow anxiety sufferer, I feel you on all the booktube pressure (and I don’t have two tiny humans to raise!) - we do what we can, when we can and that is enough! Repeat like a mantra! 🤍
Dearest Jack, thank you so much for Shouting out mental health May. And thank you more for sharing your story With the community. I know it makes me feel less alone when someone starts a conversation about anxiety. I know you’re a private person and I appreciate you so much. Moving is very stressful So I’m glad you’re practicing self-care. Your garden is lovely and I know it’s hard to say goodbye to a home but now you’ll have the video Of your beautiful purple flowers I’m almost out of my 4000 weeks so I’m hoping to have at least 5000😊 I don’t Believe in the concept of wasting time if you’re enjoying yourself. I’m more of a Dolce Far Niente person. Warm Aloha
Dear Marilyn, thank you for this thoughtful comment and I am so sorry but am only now seeing it and catching up with missed comments after my move and a few other things that have been going on. I hope you are well - I caught up on your videos the other day and it was lovely to see you! I will leave you a message on Voxer - lots of love x
Oh no! I didn't know that about Alice Walker. That makes me sooo sad bc I love her writing and now I will never be able to feel good about reading it. Congrats on your new house and good luck with the move!
Sorry for the late comment Jack. Love the BPB and I’m sure there will be lovely plants and scenery in or near your new home. Thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all these books. Excellent Little Free Library Haul. Is Madadam (sp?) the third in her dystopian trilogy? I had the first one Oryx and Crake out years ago from the library and never got to it. Would like to read that series sometime. 😊📚 Good luck with the packing. 📦
No worries Alice - I’m the worst at responding to comments lately! I’m not sure if the Atwoods are a series but interesting if so as Oryx and Crake is on my tbr (which I’m soon to be reunited with 😍)! If it is a dystopian, it could be part of the cats and apocalypse project however and whenever that works out! 😂
@@spreadbookjoy we should defo add the series to cats and apocalypse list I think! Here’s what I found out: Oryx and Crake is 1st in the MaddAddam trilogy, then The Year of the Flood and then MaddAddam.
Hi Jack! As far as fantasy recommendations go, I recently read "The Empress of Salt & Fortune" by Nghi Vo and I loved it. It's part of a series but each story is fully contained - the stories are only loosely connected. It's a novella (119 pages) but it's such a wonderful and full story - it proves you don't need a huge page count to have a full and complex world and memorable characters. Lovely video!
All the best with moving, hope it all goes smoothly for you. That four thousand weeks book sounds really interesting, although I am also just sat here feeling a bit sick just at the title. Crisis incoming.
I've heard several people mention 4,000 Weeks but I've had a couple disappointments on the self-help front in terms of books being more for beginners on their search, and feeling like I hadn't learned anything new (in minimalism and creative productivity spaces). Could it be I've read too much?!? 😆
I have read so many minimalism and productivity books that I am probably over saturated as well! I liked this - it was more like a response to the productivity obsession which made me think about being more mindful and realistic about the time I have. Not just what do I want to do with my time, but what do I have to decide NOT to do in order to do those things? It was interesting for sure.
Congrats on selling your house 😊 if you want to have a painting party where we paint and listen to audiobooks i am down 😂. Mental health may sounds excellent i didnt know that this was happening im a bit late to the party but will need to look out for it next year 🩷
Ha - just catching up on my comments! Painting and audiobook party - the dream! 🤣I listened to Lonesome Dove last year doing that and I still have fond memories 😂
🥂🏠 don’t stress out to much about making videos at this stage. Take care of yourself and all that needs to be done. Remember your mental health is most important. We will be here once the dust settles.

Emezi is my favourite author. They are just a talent in a league of their own in my opinion.
Lovely to hear your little catch up ❤🤩❤️
Thanks, Charlie. I’ve got another Emezi buddy read next month!

The more you yakk tje more you find people puttung there hands up saying, yes i feel the same or have felt that in the past.
I am noticing that actually - people have responded by saying they also live with anxiety. It is strangely comforting!
