    I could not afford it, but I do have two of their Tri Way trimmers that I use in my drill press and love them. 223 and 3006. The carbide cutters have been going for about 3 years and about 20 k + cases in 223 so far. What a time saver and the consistency is as advertised.

      I was hesitant to spend the money but it seems that if you are not satisfied you won't loose much if you decide its not worth it. I can't wait to see how much time it saves and lets face it trimming is the worst part.

    I'm thinking of selling some of my wife's shoes to buy one of these trimmers.

    Really like my Giraud trimmer but the drill chuck works pretty good in a bench vise

    I can not get consistent COAL lengths with this trimmer. I assume the length from the shoulder to the case mouth is consistent, so I assume the length from the base to the shoulder datum is different for each case even though it is going thru the same full length resized die. Any help would be appreciated

      i had the same issue with their tri way trimmer drill head. nothing consistent even though brass was all sized on same press with the same dillon sizing die. I sold mine and chalked it up to the different brands of brass. I haven tried anything else that indexes off the shoulders as im afraid of running into the same issue. Whats funny is that all the brass fit in a case gauge no issues before trimming

    I've always been a little bit skeptical of these types of trimmers that measure OAL from the shoulder as it depends on how much if any you bump the shoulder to get your length. It does seem to cut down processing time though.

      I think that consistency across the entire process is needed. But I have seen video that it can hold .001 tolerance if done correctly. I have confidence that I will get it there. I might intentionally run a little long to start with to see where it goes. I plan on trying to do my sizing and then wet tumble and then run through this with no additional cleaning step. We will see.

    So it looks like it locates off the shoulder. I would like to hear what if anything would be different with a straight walled case.

    • @BoltActionReloading
      @BoltActionReloading  5 років тому

      I am not sure how you could make this work with a straight wall case. But I am sure if you email or call them you can find out.

    So I have some 223 brass that someone way over reamed right at max trim length 1.750". Would it be ok for me to go 5 thousands past down to 1.745" just to get rid of a knife endge ream job? I have contacted a boolit manufacture and they have told me it should be ok, but wondering what you thought.

      The chamfer that this trimmer puts on is pretty sharp, but it works well and hasn't caused me any problems.

    This style, like my Gracie trimmer, is nice, but only works for bottle neck cases..

    These are very nice machines and well built, unfortunately they're a little out of my price range. I do use the Wilson case neck trimmer however, and have had absolutely amazing results with it, dead nuts accurate...But considerably slower than the Giraud..

      Thanks for commenting. Accuracy and reputability is what I am going for with this purchase. I spend way more time than I like to admit with brass prep.

    Yeah, at $450 it is fast and consistent. However, it just as fast to use a $30 Lee quick trimmer with a drill in my press. I consistently get 1.91 for creedmore bass. It works for me until I can afford the Giraud.

    Gotta reload one serious shit ton of 223 before this $450 trimmer makes sense!

    • @BoltActionReloading
      @BoltActionReloading  5 років тому

      You can use it for a lot more than 223, in fact if I were only going to trim 223 I would choose there Tri way trimmer or the little crow gunworks worlds finest trimmer. This unit can be quickly changed between calibers and trim very quickly. I typically trim every load and this saves a ton of time.

    Wow that thing leaves a lot of chamfer on the brass, I try to keep that edge mostly square.

      You are correct. + shipping. But they are basically the same price used on ebay if you can find them. Very few have buyers remorse.

    • @Nobody4rpresident

      If they don't have buyers remorse why are they selling them on Ebay?

    • @BoltActionReloading
      @BoltActionReloading  6 років тому +2

      Various reasons I am sure. I am sure people buy this for the same reason I did, to speed up the worst part of brass prep. Maybe they decided to stop reloading and sell their tools, or frankly maybe their wife found out how much they paid for it.

    Trimming off the shoulder is not consistent endless you take the time to separate your brass by head stamp. The lyman is waaaaay cheaper and does the same thing.

    • @BoltActionReloading
      @BoltActionReloading  3 роки тому

      Hi Andrew, I am not sure why you would be concerned with a thousandth or 2 in trim length variation if your not concerned with sorting by head stamp. Regardless there are significant differences between this and the Lyman. Speed, consistantcy, and the fact that this chamfer and deburrs the case essentially perfectly in 3 to 4 seconds. This is not for everyone but it is a great machine. It takes the worst part of reloading and makes it trivial.

    • @andrewlenhill
      @andrewlenhill 3 роки тому

      @@BoltActionReloading I'm just bitter that I bought the lyman. and it works great if it's all the same brass but if not it will be off by several thousandths which is why trimming off the shoulder sucks to me. The machine you have is bad ass that saves tons of time doing 3 steps in one but I'm sure it gives you the same results as all shoulder trimmers do which are not consistent endless you separate by head stamp which is a huge pain in the ass. The best trimmer I have is the lee cheapy trimmer lol its does all 3 as well not as fast as yours but not bad for 10 bucks lol. I'm going to the dillon rt1500 soon. I guess I wish someone would have told me that shoulder trimmers are not consistent endless you measure each one and adjust the blade accordingly. I have brass that are 1.760 set it trims perfect to 1.750 then I have brass that are at 1.755 it will trim it down to 1.737. Sure is quick though.

    • @BoltActionReloading
      @BoltActionReloading  3 роки тому

      @@andrewlenhill I use multiple kinds of brass and never see that much variation. This system uses basically a half chamber insert to align the brass, and is caliber specific. My guess is there is not as much contact alignment area on the Lyman unit, allowing for more variation in your cut.

  • @ewetho
    @ewetho 6 років тому

    Why bother shortening the trim length. If repeatable then consistency is more important than shortest length possible. Fast enough to use every time for ultimate in consistency.

    • @BoltActionReloading
      @BoltActionReloading  6 років тому

      I may not. When it arrived it was set to 1.907" so I might lengthen it out to be "in the middle of the range". I have to figure out how I want to run it exactly.

    Sorry the Giraud Power Case Trimmer cost $500. For $500 you can hire someone to trim your brass. If you buy the Giraud Power Case Trimmer you won’t be able to afford to buy reloading powder, brass and primers. So much for consistently.

    Come on China, you can make that overpriced grinder for a fraction of the cost.

    • @georgeholt8929
      @georgeholt8929 3 роки тому

      So I'm wondering why you are not using a Chinese made Rifle, It too would be cheaper, and all the negative values you will say could also be found in their copycat case trimmer as well. The Giraud product is a family run business and with your purchase you can call and talk to the man who created these and most likely assembled the trimmer.
