As a new Patreon member, I’m enjoying your extra content. I think it’s a hoot that you have to deal with chickens and dogs on the airstrip. Thanks for your passion, Ryan, and fly safe!!!
Dogs, chickens, pigs & people, are all part of every day flying into these bush strips. Some cloud on the way to Wewak, then nice and clear over the coast. Another great video Ryan, thanks for the ride.
You see those fake Jacques-Yves Cousteau titles all over now -- I think a lot of people don't even know they're from Spongebob. And a lot of Spongebob viewers are waaaay to young to have seen "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" on TV back in the late 60s early 70s. (Sadly, I *am* that old)
1 - install a small air horn to get the attention of the animals. But install it backwards so that the horn doesn't scoop up bugs. That happened to my Mack truck air horn
If you had a problem late in your take-off, about the only choice you'd have is which trees do you want to hit. Spectacular, beautiful country, and completely unforgiving.
Most pilots only have to worry about birds at airports but you get chickens and dogs. I am glad you are as careful as you are and would love to fly with you. Cannot say that about a lot of pilots looking at where you go but I know the Lord is with you and you do all you can to stay safe. Take care and God bless.
@@johnsmith4589 Years ago a FLANG F-16 had a nose gear collapse after hitting a wild boar while landing. The pilot stayed with the aircraft and got it stopped. Hopefully those that Ryan helps with his flights try to look out for him. I would.

Being a pilot myself flying Diamond DA42 in Sweden I enjoy your videos. Nice to see professional airmanship. However, in a country with such a terrain, I would be more comfortable with a twin, although turbines are very reliable. Twin STOL unpressurized a/c with good load capability are available.

MAF do a wonderful job, not only in PNG, but in many other country’s including Australia. Thanks for this video, hazards such us dogs on the strip are a normal flight for you Ryan. Trust you enjoyed your lunch and a bit of downtime in Wewak...... Roger
Ryan, What a funny video! Nothing says bush flying like natives having to chase dingoes off the runway... BTW* I love the G1000! I also love the spongebob time cards and use them in my videos as well.
One time I was making an approach to a runway in Colorado and there was a porcupine in the middle of it. I was in a helicopter so I just hovered over it and touched down further down the runway.
Flew 103's in 'Nam. A few places we went we had to make low approaches to scare the water buffalos off the 'runways'! We support MAF! Good to hear they and you worked together for a while! Wonder if they have anyone making vids? Fly Safe!
My understanding of lightning detectors is that they work on the principle that a lightning discharge sends out a radio signal. If you've ever listened to AM radio during a lightning storm, you hear crackles (heavy static) that correspond to lightning strikes somewhere in the vicinity. Roughly how loud (the amplitude) of the lightning radio signal is related to the distance, and then there is some electronic wizardry that allows it to determine the heading. It is possible for there to be cloud to cloud static discharges that would send out radio signals, or possibly other types of interference that could trip the detector and make it show a lightning strike. I am NO expert on this stuff and will defer to anyone with more knowledge on the subject.
I'm by the Airport tomorrow, On my garbage route. "Erie, Pennsylvania". Hope to see some planes. Super cool videos. Don't hit the people and puppies, on takeoff. The people like to watch you take off and land. Very cool.👍

The variation in ground conditions, en route weather and approach to Wewak. Nothing is normal about your flights as each day presents a variety of conditions you have to deal with.
Rotation speed is the speed at which the control yoke is pulled back to lift the nose gear off the runway. This has the effect of increasing the wing angle of attack so that the wings generate increased lift.
Hey Ryan!!! Love the videos!!! Awesome job and Awesome Scenery!!! A couple questions... Which is your favorite airstrip to fly into and which is the hardest? About to get my MSFS2020 and I can't wait to start flying your locations! Thank You for taking the time to produce these videos for our entertainment!!! Stay Safe and Stay Flying!!!!
With Australia now promising to send vaccines to PNG, will you be flying there to get them nod help to distribute them to remote communities? When will you get your jab?
I cut it out from the video, but yes, I motioned for them to get it off. They just thought it was okay for the dog to still be right next to the runway
Crazy dog lol. Hey I know you have said it before but I can't find the video again what is the big black wheel at your knee and why does it turn as you're climbing?
It might be connected to the planes gyro. Check out the physics of the gyro in an airplane. (I vaguely remember this from high school ... many years ago. Must have been impressed.... I'm 83.😮)
Chickens, dogs, birds, pigs on runways. Just adds to the joys of flying
Congrats on your 1-year UA-cam Anniversary video
Thanks, today is the day!
Abort point... where that chicken is crossing the runway... LOL!!
@Missionary Bush Pilot, it really makes you want to ask, "Why did the chicken cross the runway?" Haaaaaa....
I’m 55 years old but I still get pleasure pretending it’s me in the captains seat navigating that airplane through such a beautiful landscape!
I love the view of the kids enjoying the wind from the big "fan"

Other organizations have used the twin otter here successfully, but the cost of operating a twin just is not cost effective for what we do.

Beautiful flight and greased the landing. Nice views. See you next time.

Again great filming thanks for explaining flight panel , it seems complicated but hey you explain well thanks for this !!
Another splendid flight Ryan 50 out of 50, keep it up.
You must have alot off that, great pilote, merci
wow, that seemed to be a short runway. Taking off close to the end.
Thanks Ryan, another good flight. No problem with Raskols in Goroka or Wewak?
Stay safe.
There are, but they aren't everywhere

Whow, nice landing. 😃👍
Hope to join soon a similar air service to REALLY contribute to help and support people!
So you did a bit of surfing back in those training days.
Hay, can you show us some barrel rolls coming down with the plane flying over the onlookers?? Asking for a friend.
No seriously, I like watching and learning how to fly. Your videos are awesome my brother. 👊👍
Another great video. I am not in aviation myself but i am learning a lot from your videos. Keep it up Ryan
Buy an electronic scale and buy gold from these guys. Add it to the coffee cargo.
Yeah.... you don't want a dog strike. At my old company a pilot had a Deer strike. Hit the left prop. It was not pretty.
1368 thumb up and thanks for an interesting chat... Blessings and good luck with airstrip dog obedience classes ;-)
Another great flight sir.
Met an MAF communications guy in Albania some 20 years ago now - he was South African if memory serves.
Enjoyed the video. What are the accommodations like in Weewak?
Just a guesthouse, great view looking out over the bay area....and A/C 😁
When you have the tailwind on that kind of runway. Do you have to consider downdraft at the end (of the runway)?
What language do they speak there? Are you able to communicate with the people out in the bush?
Just an amazing life you live there. I wish I was paid to fly in such a remote and gorgeous area!
Hello from Minnesota USA!!!
Dogs on the runway. I bet Captain Sully doesn't have to deal with that sort of thing.
The dog is the one dislike 😭😭😭🤣🤣
Woohoo. Like going off the end of an aircraft carrier. Dog day afternoon with chicken.
Wewak sounds like a good location to RON.
It is
Great flight to the destination. Have a great day. Shalom
Great work on the content quality Ryan! Quick question: What headset are you using ? Keep it up! 💪🏻
4:29 3 days later...I'm dead.🤣
Incredible scenery, what a great job!
Wonder what happens if you prop strike a dog? Does that entail a full engine teardown? Or do you keep on truckin, if no damage is apparent?
The variation in ground conditions, en route weather and approach to Wewak. Nothing is normal about your flights as each day presents a variety of conditions you have to deal with.
2 - why do you wait so long to lift off ... at that port? Looks like you almost run off runway. 😢 😊
I hate it when things are going to the dogs..... Life's intrusions.
Can you do a video on SAR and how that works? I see you make radio calls alot mentioning it.
What is rotate 57? Pretty flight out of the foothills! Looks similar to the foothills of CA! Air speed alive...dogs still alive, too!
Rotation speed is the speed at which the control yoke is pulled back to lift the nose gear off the runway. This has the effect of increasing the wing angle of attack so that the wings generate increased lift.

Where do you stay when you have to stay grounded due to weather. For example, in Weewak. Company housing or hotel?
Ryan, I think you need a Loud Hailer to scream at those dogs and chickens
You would think the engine noise would be enough
I see the long kafufu notice again! What is that? no farting?
Is there any safe way to communicate with the people outside the aircraft to ask them to move the dog, or would you have to shut the aircraft down?
I cut it out from the video, but yes, I motioned for them to get it off. They just thought it was okay for the dog to still be right next to the runway
Crazy dog lol. Hey I know you have said it before but I can't find the video again what is the big black wheel at your knee and why does it turn as you're climbing?
It's the elevator trim, and it is an auto one, so when I adjust the flaps, it automatically adjusts
