"I don't trust either party."
Very well said, Billy!
Everyone wants the theater more than the reality. Well put.
"I'M NOT AN OBAMA MAN"
Smashing Pumpkins new album out today
Billy Corgan is one of the most well-spoken and intelligent artists I’ve ever heard. You can tell he puts a lot of thought into his views.
@Loft Music Lol, seriously. Mr.Infowars is so woke.
Really? What's a "moral compass agenda"?
Who also believes in chem trails and all kinds of ridiculous bullshit - but you probably think Alex Jones is intelligent too so...
4 years later - so does this still hold true?
lol?
0:43 - looks like his album is called i am not an obama man
Lol LMAO HaHaHa
Just goes to show how CNN operates lol
It’s 2019 and yet it’s as if he said this yesterday.
"everyone wants the theater, not reality". I've been saying that forever
Can get over how Anderson cooper attacked corgan for doing charity.
You mean this?
ua-cam.com/video/fdho0mdwtFo/v-deo.html
Jameskirkcobain: I been trying to tell people that for years, "conservative doesn't mean your republican." Your so right man. Independent views of everything is pretty much how you have to be nowadays.
four years later and this comment is more important now than when you typed it
Exactly. Im an independent conservative. I don't lean left or right. By the way.. I'm a happy person for it too.
Parties don't mean shit politically. It's just an organization. They are not bound to a specific belief. You can be conservative and vote democrat, it doesn't fucking matter. Fuck the 2 party system.
This man is brilliant
Agree
9 years later - do you still stand by this statement?
I've always like smashing pumpkins but now have a whole new respect for them!
@. Fool
Sheep.

Was at a SP show in Toronto the night Obama was elected. When the news was official someone screamed it out loud at the band and I remember Billy saying something like "We made the right choice" at that time.
Obama and McCain, infinitely better choices than what we face in the 2020s....
@@werideatdusk Or in 2000 and 2004
"when you grow up around drug addicts and freaks you tend to lean left."
it's so fucking true
Also artists, intellectuals, people with any ounce of empathy...
@@LeshaAnn implying that the entire right is devoid of empathy? And that the left are the only empathetic ones? There are empathetic and insensitive bastards on both sides. But those who lean toward extremes tend to be less empathetic and more narcissistic and borderline.
@@antonyfranco2866 The Republicans are going to try to cut Social Security and Medicare. I rest my case.
@@LeshaAnn Politicians on either side have fucked us over in all kinds of ways. I know liberals who hate Democrat politicians. I know conservatives who hate republican politicians. A fair amount of conservatives also vote for democrats in some instances. The real reason people vote for one side or the other, is not because they are in support for one particular side, but rather, it's because they see that side as the lesser of two evils at the time.
The point is, politicians lack empathy. They don't give a shit about you or the issues they're voting for. Not even the democrats. They're snakes and conmen just like the republicans. But the people, no matter what side they are on, as long as it's not an extreme, often do. Maybe you spend too much time on the internet and are too scared of someone because they're on a side that you disagree with, and that's why you don't realize that anyone can have empathy, no matter their politics. These politicians only care about money and there is a concerted effort to fuck over the people. It comes from both sides. They have all been bought by corporations and private interests. You're a fool to think that any democrat or republican is on your side. You should stop blindly believing in the narrative of your political party (same goes for any of you trumpsters out there) and know who your real enemy is. It's not the conservative next door who votes differently than you.
Here's an interesting quote about fascism, by a fascist. Who better to speak on the issue?
“Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.” - Benito Mussolini
Billy is just awesome.
You sir receive a gold star.
Billy Corgan is the man. Even though I was never a huge Pumpkins fan, I still liked a lot of their music and have always respected the band. Hearing Corgan speak on issues, which are relevant and being dealt with today is refreshing. The sincere way he discusses the issues, and his clarity of thought for perceiving reality makes me feel like he speaks for me.
Billy corgan doesn't even come off as a real man. He's a cat person. Lol.. Enough said.
Really? I think we must be opposites as I love his music but seriously think he's one of the most vain and pretentious artists to make up an opinion just to sound interesting.
Thanks, Billy. As David Letterman would say, you have crystallized my thoughts eloquently.
I completely agree with Billy.....
Make Pumpkins Great Again!
I just LOLed and I think I woke up my wife and kid. Even PM was laughing. OMG crying
Billy has the best opinion.
I would agree with on that except that he hasn't called you a fairy yet so... Until then, his opinion is shit.
Thank you Billy Corgan.🌟
I love Billy Corgan.
Everyone wants the theater more than the reality...
Was this before or after he went on Alex Jones show and wrote an 8 hour synthesized interpretation of a book?
Billy is straight up what happens when trailer tra$h becomes wealthy.
I agree totally.
well.. im kinda surprised.. he does seem to have more than a clue.. knows we been lied to.. doesnt trust either party much.. and said"America is about the people"- of by and for the people....as opposed to by the gov./for the govmnt. .. good for billy, and sorry i ever doubted you.
Love him!!!!
Sadly, I cannot post my video as a response. But after watching Mr. Corgan in this interview, I recorded an entry in my video diary.
Billy, please try to watch my response. I have the answers to your questions, and many other peoples. I have gone through hell to find the answers, despite never intending to find them.
I see hope for America, but only if we can all work together towards making things better for each and every one of us.
My response is on my channel.
Amen.
Good words
Billy speaks the truth
I was expecting to hear more Obama praise, as the huge majority of artists love the democratic party. I am glad to see that he has the same opinion I have. It's going to take a miracle to fix this country and I think we may already be beyond the point of no return.
+mysterymac38 That's nothing to do with Obama though, has it? Even though you're right that America is unfixable. Such a huge country to re-arrange. Seen from the outside, the anarchy of the USA is what makes your country what it is. There's a whole lot of storytelling in there, and there's the american dream, which is all very romantic and "charming". But I guess in reality it really sucks if you get born in the wrong corner of your country. Best of luck from Europe, and PLEASE DON'T vote for mr. Trump.
mysterymac38 so true, keep fighting for whats right and we can change this country for the better. Don't let the liberal media brain wash you. Keep thinking for yourself. They want us to believe we are loosing but we are not. There are millions of patriots like you and me still in this country. The last election proved it. Stay strong and keep fighting, it is our only hope.

The incredibly idiocy we spew, have to look back on and own. My god.

I trust all politicians. Please give them more power. They will use it wisely as they always have.
Are you serious? Refreshing take...
This was the dark ages for the pumpkins when billy was political and released Oceania and monuments to an elegy
Id love to hear his thought about where we are as a country now. February 2024, so much worse than anyone could have thought.
the words scrolling across the bottom are hilarious, uproarious and strange
"When you grow up around drug addicts and freaks you tend to lean left"
perfect.
That's a stupid thing to say, actually. And it shows he's not really educated in politics.
Melan Colín poor choice of words since Billy considers himself a libertarian LMFAO
@Variable Volume replying to a year old comment on youtube. Yeah, someone definitely got triggered.
Like the majority of his fanbase. Lmfaoooooo
@@allrain He has the choice to respond or not respond and he responded.. Soooo, are you going to be the idiot that mocks him for making that choice to respond despite the time it was posted ( by the way a year is not a long time, despite what you think; unless you're still in elementary school) or stay being a judgmental? You're just being salty, common sense of course.
Wait, he's Italian?!?!? I'm shocked
@. I'm Canadian. We look at ethnicity differently here. It's something that still influences you, it doesn't just go away because you grew up somewhere else. Hope that clears things up.
Okay. Let's erase medicare, medicaid and SSI. That's a much smaller price to pay. And maybe we'll send people with vouchers down to churches for medical care.
Well I love Billy even more now
He tells parents that it is totally their responsibility to protect their children from internet predators and the government should have no role in helping to protect its citizens from these threats. What kind of moral mans believes healthcare isn't a right? Or that federal student loans and scholarships should be oblished. Or who at one time believed public schools should be abolished.
You keep mentioning the liberal side as if I agree with everything they do. I have criticisms of liberalism and conservatives but I'm criticizing conservatives because their ideas are less humane meaning this, I would prefer an unsustainable healthcare system than a healthcare system that turns people dying into the streets to go to a church hospital with subpar service and biased treatment because that is not sustainable either.
And he worked his ass off for every penny.
Mr. Paul says that hospitals should not be forced to help people who have no insurance, meaning let people die on street corners. Under Paul, if you couldn't pay for a needed medical procedure, Paul would tell you, "Go hang." How moral. The government should not obscure the responsibility of the citizen or not require something including expectations of welfare recipients but the idea that the government on no level has any responsibility towards its citizens is not only immoral but cruel.
That's a good point, but I would agree with Billy. When politicians make promises and promote their plan for office, you have to trust that they will act with that in mind. A lot of the time, however, they make the speeches and then abandon them once the elections are over. So, it may not necessarily be about a president defining morality as much as governing with a strong set of principles that results in their political promises becoming reality.
I love billy corgan
I love Billy Corgan too!
we all love billy !!
i love ya Caillou
This interview was conducted in 2012.
I can only imagine that in the following four years his, uh, "esteem" for Pharoah Barack didn't improve.
In reality business deprives the rights and benefits of the employees and misrepresents bad products to sustain company growth, and use "tools" in the government to sustain their own rules as they're subsidized and given tax breaks.
In truth, government needs as much regulation, oversight and implementation of moral ethics as business.
he has a penchant for purchase! and we bought him!
If you're going to use drugs for comparison, use one actually comparable to illicit drugs. Tobacco doesn't send people on binges, make them sit at home and do nothing or cause them to overdose.
Also, cigarettes have always been legal and have had spikes in usage throughout time. In the 1950s, doctors & priest smoked publicly. Usage goes down in 2012. Okay. So why wouldn't drug usage be high for 20 or 30 years and go down later like cigarettes or still be popular like alcohol?
I'm actually a moderate. I also fight battles I know I can win and don't waste votes making points that will never go farther than my mind.
P.S.: It's also funny that I'm the closet homosexual and you're the one spending time guessing the side of my endowment. I hope it was a nice thought though. It's about 8 and 1/2, and stands very close at attention since you're interested.
I would argue that state and federal government also play a part in keeping children safe along with parents. What kind of govt does nothing to help parents protect their children from online predators?
Charity and help are two different things. Giving something with an expectation is not charity. Currently, govt doesn't expect much but it doesn't mean they should do absolutely nothing.
I believe public school unions should be challenged and the education system be redone completely.
Billy has always had his head screwed on straight.
Lmfao nasachusetts?
Yeah Billy. Nice to see someone agree with me about Obama for a change
This is what I mean by consistent. Johnson believes in personal freedom and supports same sex marriage across the boards. Paul says he supports personal freedom but is personally against same sex marriage, but then wants to give gays "civil unions" which has the "same meaning" implying that Paul worries more about language than meaning, which either makes him a hypocrite or someone with no substance. Johnson lacks that inconsistency, fork-tongue talk and emphasis on language rather than spirit.
We are a society that mixes capitalism and DEMOCRATIC socialism. A fair balance isn't a bad thing. But both things by themselves in pure form are not always good for all members of society.
Government may not have common sense or intelligent decency as it stands but to replace that with no decency and zero empathy is no suitable replacement. And "do whatever you will and whatever happens we care nothing about" makes no common sense either. That's like an absentee father.
I think we were fucked from the beginning. If you build a nation on hypocrisies, half-truths and dreams, then 224 years after adopting the first form of our constitution, you're bound to have more hypocrisies, half-truths and dreams.
The issue is that the nation as a whole won't do what is required to change that, and whether we'll admit it or not, there are absolutely no political figures adept or honorable enough to lead the charge. Not one.
He doesn't trust either party, but lots of altar boys don't trust priests.
What does he think of trump?
He's got asked a question and is responding with his beliefs. Speaking about politics, especially for a musician, is difficult because many lend credibility with how much they associate with the music or personality. Billy did not say anything outlandish and gave a fair, balanced answer. Now you may agree, or disagree but do not leave a comment where it's clear you judge Corgan's answer as futile because he once wore a skirt.
Paul was the father of the Tea Party! This fight has been going on since Goldwater & Rockefeller, conservative vs establishment.
We are just now more angry then ever before!
if some shit goes down look towards billy corgan!
Ron Paul has been honest and its appreciated. We don't know an awful lot about Obama or Romney but we do know Ron Paul is an honest racist who thinks rich white people should own everything and less financially sound people can starve or rot somewhere out of sight.
The constitution never uses the word "immigration" but has concept there with no specific guidelines. This leaves the regulation of it up to the federal government, which the Supreme Court (interpreters of the constitution) have upheld.
Getting off the gold standard was a bad idea but I believe it was Nixon, a conservative Republican who made the transition.
And isn't reading the constitution as whatever is not there will not be done not a conservative manipulation of the constitution?
Damn I love him even more, we have the exact personality.
Man of the people ❤ 🔥 0️⃣
You say civil unions and marriage have the same rights (Yet different names) but to quarrel over language rather the spirit of the intent is without substance. I thought opposition to gay marriage was to the spirit of the intent not the language. I also know that there was a time when whites sharing anything with blacks was insulting to the American majority. Equal and human rights are not up to the majority. If it was, we're no better than Nazis, which is interesting since they learned from us.
I love hearing him talk steamy trash almost as much as I love his music.
😁😁😁Billy. fan from 93
he looks for moral compass and supported trump.
I know fuckin lol
I also understand that Obama among many others has failed with inequalities, inefficiency and corruption. Still, I won't trade business as usual for an extreme either Paul or Kucinich. As an independent, I support moderates not a liberal or conservative. BOTH are responsible for this mess.
Paul, if not for himself, can't do anything for you. But it really matters little, just as much as his career did. I'm glad you support Paul, but come January 20, 2013, tell me how that went for you.
bill burr wrote some cool songs
If jail isn't discouraging why is money? Legalizing drugs will only lead to a rehab system that will manage addictions, not stop them. Some will quit only due to inner strength but many won't, especially when nothing and no one legally stop them.
Many rehabs are funded by hospitals or govt who will sink money into managing addictions rather than put the resources to more needed uses with better prognosis for success and productive outcomes from patients. Great.
He doesn't compromise and disrupts things to make a point he'll never make. He can't keep taxes low forever or seriously cut the government's size.
His advocacy of privatization, opposition to regulations, support of forced school prayer, support of drug legalization and naive policy on non-intervention are troubling. His views on racism, equality & personal freedom (sodomy) are also foolish. His handling of racist e-mails also are alarming.
And he's a useless leader, which many don't see.
Are you done trolling this page yet?
Sure, rip down all institutions. The house will still stand.
Right on Billy
You can't advocate personal freedom-based libertarianism, then believe that same-sex marriage should be prohibited while state governments should have the right to enforce sodomy laws, allowing law enforcement to prohibit private consensual sexual practices. You can't be about the safety of the country and want to defederalize airport security as if it would be harder to infiltrate private sector security as opposed to federally-regulated security
Corgan is the smartest rock and roll musician alive. He did everything except mention the word "libertarian," but what he said was philosophically correct. I love that he pointed out that Obama did not deliver on the moral social tolerance promises of his campaigning. I'd like to see Corgan himself run for president on the Libertarian Party ticket, and then help organize at the State Legislative level in low population states. He has the money to accomplish that, if he does it right. (If it's done wrong, no amount of money would be enough, if it's done right, it's physically possible.)
In any case, everyone needs to read about jury nullification of law: that's what individuals can do to defeat drug prohibition and other "mala prohibita" laws.
+Jake Witmer You seem to have read a lot more into what he said than is reasonable. Dismissing the two parties we have now is not in ANY way endorsing libertarianism.
Ryan2142
*You seem to have read a lot more into what he said than is reasonable.*
...In your uninformed and unphilosophical opinion.
*Dismissing the two parties we have now is not in ANY way endorsing libertarianism.*
That part of what you said is true, but it's not true in this context. Of course, you have the stink of government-schooling on everything you wrote (the absence of any consistent high-level philosophy).
People who don't contradict themselves (in spite of being trained to contradict themselves) reveal clues about how consistent their thinking is. This is what Corgan did with his statements, which were admittedly indeterminate (though not self-contradictory). He left himself "wiggle room." However, they didn't have the stink of being anti-liberty, nor "anti-liberty-by-default."
Being consistently moral (defending social tolerance) actually does imply libertarianism, although that term may have been poorly-defined to you, so you may not fully comprehend its implications. No, scratch that, you definitely don't understand its implications, as you've made completely clear.
In closing I should note that I don't need any more blather that repeats the government line of freshman year "Social Studies" on my feed.
+Chore boy...dont worry...he probably just learned then what libertarianism is...like my sister when she heard about quinoa...for a time everything we ate had to include quinoa.,.
Jake Witmer
Nope, that honour belongs to Christopher Novoselic.
He's probably more useful in the position he is in commenting and expressing ideas to fans and political audiences.
Under Paul, we'd pay no income taxes and the federal government wouldn't exist. He is also morally contradictory. He'll force kids to pray in school but right after, they'll come home to their parents face deep in cocaine and a room of smoke all the while the state manages poor society's various addictions. Isn't that welfare of another kind? And of course, he sees no long term ramifications of this.
That's sad. If Ron Paul was the best chance you had, you had no chance at all, which makes sense. Paul has no/zero/never ever chance of ever being the leader of anything, maybe except for the inept rabble rousers club or the Tea Party, which is basically the same thing..
What is it you dont like about Ron Paul?
Where did you get this from. Ron Paul worked for church hospitals that provide free healthcare. They dont do as much now because govt stepped in & offered to pay for it at taxpayer expense. If there is no need for charitable care why would a private entity provide it. It is illegal for any hospital to turn you away for a emergency procedure regardless of your ability to pay.
I liked Goldwater. He was more savvy than Paul (he did get the nomination). Rockefeller was abandoned by his party in 1976 (Reagan!).
Conservative vs. the establishment. You guys have done a real bang up job. You're almost as inefficient as the liberals, just a little better and more vocal.
Don't get me started on the Tea Party. Where were you guys in 2003? It makes no sense to try to save the ship from sinking, when you could have avoided the path of iceberg many miles before.
And if jail isn't discouraging why is money? If you legalize drugs, all you'll end up doing is creating a rehab system that will manage addictions, not stop them. Some will quit because of inner strength but a lot won't, particularly when nothing and no one can legally stop them.
And many rehab facilities are funded with govt funds or by hospitals who will sink millions of dollars to manage addictions rather than put it to places where there is more needed use and likelihood for success. Great.
Ron Paul was the best chance we had!
What can I say? The world is a vampire...
If your actions hit you fine but when society pays, that's not fine. Having a society of junkies, molested children, dead uninsured and ignored minorities with no govt structure is not helpful to society in anyway.
How can you on one hand tell people it's okay to get addicted and then come to us to be rehabilitated for a little while later and then we'll do the cycle over again?
This idea that people do whatever ignores the law of unintended consequences for which our society will pay dearly.
I'll vote for Romney and Obama all day rather than Ron Paul, his son or anybody remotely attached to the Tea Party. Business is usual is better than draconian social Darwinism.
And at least Rick Perry and Rick Santorum are upfront and honest about what they believe in, and understand the full long-term ramifications of what they advocate.
Yeah...but at least THEY have money. THATS the important thing;-)
I don't care for either party as well
I don't like either but both clearly articulate their social conservatism without double-talk or illusions about the intended effects even though I disagree.
Libertarians have this view that we can do whatever with a survival of the fittest attitude and that won't adversely effect society at all. They disregard the true effect on their beliefs on society as a whole. That's were I agree with Santorum on his criticism of libertarianism though I think his extent is too far.
If a child sees their family/friends/role models do something out of the corner of their eyes while society has no prohibition or opinion on it, they're more like to try it when becoming of age.
And people do smoke whether or not a wrapper says anything on it. TV commercials all day show people with no toes or legs and holes in their necks, yet people still smoke.
Drugs are a social thing. If society is apathetic about it, drugs become socially acceptable and therefore much easier to get into.
Let's divorce legality from drug use. People use drugs to treat pain. If it's legal, it's more accessible and children may be exposed to it by their parents, and child welfare could do anything. To do drugs is a personal choice but no personal choice should pose a social threat to a child or society, which drugs undoubtedly do.
Civil unions is not equal treatment. I also have less patience for the double-talk Ron Paul bullshit. If you think gays being married is terrible say so.
Let's say this is true. What cost does it come by? I've considered all your arguments. I've heard them time and time before. You consider that question.
And I don't accept the idea that that drugs are totally harmless, or that drug abusers are victims of an unjust system, or that the U.S. will follow European habits or if you legalize drugs in a country that consumes more drugs than any other country, you'll eliminate drug abuse. You won't even do it by half.
Less violence. More junkies and poor behavior. I can't wait.
