The cork road seam can be hidden with irregular application of tube glue then painted dark grey or black to represent tar sealer over seams and cracks. Add a small feeder crack to the stress point of the driveway and it will look deliberate and realistic.
woozleboy...add a feeder crack to the joint (stress crack joint)...YEA, right buddy, I'm an old concrete man and THAT is exactly what happens when the "Earth Moves Under your Feet"!! I have (Naturally), one of the few construction diorama videos on youtube...LOL. I do have one I'd like you to look at, the grass and trees need work,,,but the construction section is... you tell me!
Holy shit. I saw the finished product of this on an Instagram page of initial D memes and it inspired me to make my own model scenes in the future, I started watching UA-cam tutorials and this came up on my suggested videos feed later, I didn’t even search for this. Awesome work by the way! Thank you for making a tutorial.
Spooky Dukems wow that's rad man, glad you like it. Definitely start trying your own dioramas it's the best fun. There's amazing tutorials all over UA-cam, but the best way to learn is just start building and experimenting with things.
I think that's great...and the match line between the asphalt road and concrete drive way is great, realistic. From someone who actually paved such roads, we don't usually take time to make sure that seam is perfect, especially on resurface...it will wave a little. Love your finished concrete look, but a couple of small line cracks leading into the stress crack joint would really be detailed, and make them dark, filled with dust and dirt.
Now that I look at your final project...forget about the discolored sidewalk square comment I made, i see what look your going for in your final "LOOK", and it looks GREAT!!
hey man, thanks heaps for this tutorial. I'm just getting started and the way you explain everything is really good and easy to understand. Great to hear a fellow aussie. thanks for the guide man you've inspired me
Absolutely terrific tutorial. Would love to be able to build a model like that. I have a Cricut machine and a couple if ideas but not quite sure how to begin. I took some photos of a building and a couple of dimensions but I would be guessing at the dimensions of the second floor etc
So I know Milliput can be thinned down to either a consistency like model putty or even further to a thick liquid that can be used for stippling on textures, maybe a combination of the putty consistency for the road joint followed by an all over coat of some thinned down enough to seep into the cork could have hid the join, might be worth messing about with on a test piece. I really love how your sidewalk came out, seeing that in the thumbnail is why I decided to watch this video.
You can use the same glue as you used for the road to hide the split between both cork parts. Just rub it between both parts while gluing them to the ground surface, then use the extra glue that may pop out on top to rub that in the split. Any extra left overs can be wiped off. This should help to solve that problem. It however may be the best to use 1 part of cork instead of 2 though.
Yeah definitely man, I found I can get massive rolls of cork locally so I won't have this problem again. Someone else also suggested to use superglue and paint it like a road repair line which was another idea I liked
The Heartbreak Time Machine thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. Really want to release some more tutorials but my PC died and I can't afford to replace it yet... Hopefully soon
Nicely done! I'm very interested in making automotive dioramas, I'd love to make Moe's Tavern from The Simpsons first because that shouldn't be too difficult.
Feb. 2018---Thanks for a useful video. After 15 years, started getting back into modeling, but going for 1/35th scale zombie/ apocalypse dioramas. One of the 3 I'm working on will be called The Alley much like yours, though where you have concrete for the alley, I'm going for cork as asphalt. But thanks to you, have figured out how to put a sidewalk in front of the building and of course, having a dip between the alley way and road. For those wanting a large sheet of cork, hit you car parts store. Think my 3'x2' sheet of cork cost me $13?
very nice work; can you tell me why use cork for the roadway? why not just continue using plaster? i'm about to do my 1st roadway on foam, & am planning on using joint compound for the road, sidewalks, parking.
Nice work mate, but if you are working often with plaster of paris, you really should wear gloves and mask while mixing or sanding it down. Even spreading it out with your fingers is not the best solution 😂 Like with any material if you work a lot with them you should protect yourself, your skin breathes it too 😊
If someone was going for a kinda battle scarred look for their build they could probably skip the cork right? I'm thinking cut it with a hobby knife, sand it lightly but still leave plenty of texture, then prime and paint over the rough surface, maybe?
Im pretty sure the company woodland scenics make some diorama starter kits you can buy to make different nature scenes, but i don't know of any starter pack per say, I tend to buy products as I find I need them, do you know exactly what you want to make, I'm sure I could give you a list of products I use to make such a thing
Etoile Haesen I didn't actually leave it like that, i still had alot of work to do on the diorama after this was filmed. I ended up plastering over the edges and sanding them down before painting it black.
Third Gear Speed Shop I usually buys extruded foam wall linings from Bunnings, a local hardware store in Australia. But this foam was in some packing crates from China that got delivered to my work which I grabbed a bunch of
Heki Dayo, I only just got a video camera so this is the only video I have, if you want to check out my Facebook page, facebook.com/nozakuboyAus/ I have a Wip album of the build there
Your over working this project.... you should have black washed the whole piece of foam before you started painting it... the black wash will get into every crack and make it look aged ....I simply water down my black paint... slap it on... let it sit for just a sec then wipe off with a towel... again make sure it’s in every crack.... then do your grays and dark grays ... also if you want texture for the road... instead of cork.... go outside and find a few textured rocks... the foam is very soft and it will take shapes of different items.. push rocks down on the foam for your road and it will give a cool texture... I also use different stones for my bricks before I cut them out to give texture...when you dry brush you will see the textures pop like nothing you seen before...
No problems man, glad you found it helpful, your diorama looks great man, great lighting effects and nice little details. the only thing id probably change is the paper building printouts on the back, they look a bit out of place, maybe try to find some Photos of similar buildings taken at night, may help to have them blend in, as you don't want them to stand out. aside form that very cool work man, keep it up!
NoZakuBoy thanks man I didn’t even think of that ! I’m really trying to do my own buildings and stuff out of foam like u U are a master of your art sir
shit yeah man, practice and experimentation works so keep at it! This building was made with foam core (a paper covered foam board) and covered in plaster. will hopefully be able to do another building at some point so i can make another video. if you check out my facebook album facebook.com/pg/nozakuboyAus/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1492339654168560 theres alot of photos from this build which might give you some further ideas.

Thank you for sharing your works its fascinating. Many layers of paint, all acrylics, then blended together. It looks very realistic

Awesome video, and finally another person who likes great music (saw your surfers tattoo 😉)
quite like method of pressing down on plaster laid over foam to get natural cracks - very slick!
Really really really great nice dig in it budy
Really admire how much thought you put into achieving that level of detail. I'm just starting out and this has helped me. Thank you!!

Great diorama! Thanks for sharing your techniques.
😆😆😆 you did Initial D! That’s AWESOME! Very talented Sir. :)
Thank you for the video it has given me the get up a go for my own Diorama.

Such an awesome idea with the cork board.

I'd love to gather the materials to make something for my Gi Joe figures in the near future.
You should man it's good fun!
Nice results.
Nice work 👍👍
Very nice. A few tufts of grass in the joints may add more realism.
Great work !
Great job! Very helpful tutorial, definitely has given me some ideas for my dio. Keep up the good work!
+John Kniotek thanks man. Glad you enjoyed it
Why do you use cork for the street?
Awesome!! What color name did you use to color sidewalk?
keep the off cut so you can use them for crate and suit case and anying were else.

Boogadaboogadaboogadaboogada!
Ótimo trabalho! 👏👏👏
Have you ever tried: AK, TERRAINS ASPHALT, 250 ml., DIORAMA series, #AK8013. It makes great looking Asphalt road surfaces!
I'm interested in in making my own race track diorama. Can you make a video of supplies and where we can get them?

Clear, concise and to the point. No over the top editing and the bgm was spot on.
Excellent result.

Thanks man I appreciate that
Ikr man..its great! Step to step etc ❤
So good mate! Thank you for the great info!
Cheers daft, glad you liked it
like initial D
Is that a 12" by 12" base you are using?
What is the scale of this diorama? I am having trouble figuring out how large to scale mine compared to the model ae86
It's 1/24 the same scale as the car.
とても素晴らしいジオラマです。
ありがとうございました
Diorama, Satanic Surfers, NOFX are very good!
まのばびっち thanks man. And nice pick up on the satanic surfers tatt. Not many people know it.
Yes. Satanic surfers and the almighty trigger happy are my favorite bands.
And I am making a diorama. But it is not as good as you.
Is there a way to buy a "starter pack" that has the things needed to make a little earth scene or something?
Im pretty sure the company woodland scenics make some diorama starter kits you can buy to make different nature scenes, but i don't know of any starter pack per say, I tend to buy products as I find I need them, do you know exactly what you want to make, I'm sure I could give you a list of products I use to make such a thing
Nice work but what a messe clean after each secquance will be great
Y didn't u put on the plaster 1st?
Hi. So much time and work. Looks awesome! Why then leave the base edge looking so crappy? Like a statue on an unfinished plinth....
Etoile Haesen I didn't actually leave it like that, i still had alot of work to do on the diorama after this was filmed. I ended up plastering over the edges and sanding them down before painting it black.
Hi. That would make sense. Although I have seen other diorama videos with unfinished bases. Good luck!
Splatter effect could be done with a toothbrush or paintbrush
Whats that blue foam name?
Xps extruded foam
What is the material for the base?
It's xps extruded foam
TRADUZCAN AL ESPAÑOL!!! Gracias.
what kind of foam is it ?
Where do you get the foam you are using?

Heki Dayo, I only just got a video camera so this is the only video I have, if you want to check out my Facebook page, facebook.com/nozakuboyAus/ I have a Wip album of the build there
what are the materials you use, pleaseeeee?
Xps extruded foam, plaster or Paris, paints, cork,
What scale is this?
How much would it cost to have one of these made
Anywhere from 10 to $15,000.00
@@soko63 yes, folks jus don't realize the work & time it takes for even a small diarama.

I like the choice of cork for the road, given the surface is an aggregate.
A black wash goes OVER paint. What you're describing is a basecoat, which should not be watered down like a wash...
Get a foam cutter cream on eBay 🤪
ThNks for teaching me sum of your tricks and tips really help full

I think the paint splatter looks quite unnatural. Some carefully hand painted splatters of dirt would look more convincing.
wouldnt it have been easier to add a smaller piece on top of the base instead of cutting all that out
the driveray wamp
I would get a hammer and break the plaster
OMG you could of used a nice sharp saw
turn that stupid music offfffff
How much time will it take for the plaster to get dried
