Juliet drives the Volkswagen Polo GTI

- Most of you will be talking about the price of the updated Volkswagen Polo GTI so I obviously had to mention it. It is like the elephant in the room, which is a shame, because it takes away from the fact that the Polo GTI is still an incredible product. There are a few things I would have liked, but still, if you want to a fun drive, this is it. Coupled with the fact that it has no real direct rivals at this time, you're getting the best of the best. There is no Fiesta ST or Clio RS on offer anymore. It is a shame, but you won't be too disappointed by the Polo GTI.

R490k starting price. R650k if you want toys with it. Full of hard plastics. Ride is way too firm. I can go on... Only people that do not know how to work with money buy this car. Yours sincerely a die hard GTi fanboy !
Yeah I rate buying a second hand 7.5 at the price because a Polo for R650k when I can get a 9 month old Golf for R500k with 20000km is irrational to me these days
@@mohaumokhethi8625 a pre-owned Golf 8 GTI nowadays goes for +/- R 910k.
I love your reviews and I'm a fan❤
It's still a polo, which are generally cramped, space wise. It's a good looking car for sure, but practically is key.
Not sure it's particularly good looking. Sure, it isn't BAD looking - but it's incredibly generic. You wouldn't turn your head for that styling. I guess it is German after all and not Italian, but looks are part of the equation when you're paying this kind of money and I think that's a letdown for the Polo?
Make your videos longer and talk about the features and practicality plssssssss
Good car but that price is absurd
As an American, I shall never understand the appeal of VW. The suspension is so stiff, they don't hold up particularly well in a nation where we drive >17km year, servicing is expensive. Pricey. Can someone please explain the appeal?
Hi. I’ve got a 2020 Polo GTi. It’s the perfect car over here for our twisty UK B road (cross country, often too narrow for SUVs to pass each other). Fast enough to overtake slower cars when a larger vehicle couldn’t easily get past and comfy after being at work all day when I just want to get home quietly. (My wife has the larger family car)
Finally 🔥❤️🥰
There is no pha pha pha vru pha pha lol
If you young and want to buy this car. Don't. Go invest in property
A GR yaris instead? Maybe
R800k and it's even less practical than a polo
I agree with you Juliet. The Swift Sport is a very good ‘alternative’ to consider in this segment. I feel like the Swift Sport still has that original charm & hot ‘hatchness’ the Polo GTi originally had when it first launched. The price of this car is just too much man! 🙈😂 thanks for a great video!
I agree with you on almost everything
But it’s the badge man
That badge 🤣is what we are paying for
103kw Swift for R400k? Vs 147kw GTI
1.6 and the turbo pre hybrid are fantastic the woke hybrid kinda spoilt the based swift i20n is clear ,king 👌 now
@@audie-cashstack-uk4881 we don’t get the i20N in South Africa 🙃
Made coffee now I’m enjoying ❤️🎉 always love your reviews! Much inspiration
This makes me SO happy!
I’ve ordered this new polo GTI full option here in Belgium, I can’t wait to get it ! I know it’s really expensive but this is my first sporty car! I think I’ll love it for sure! Btw it’s my third Polo, I’m a big Fan 😁 I owned a Polo 6N2 2000 and Polo 6 1.0 2019 ❤️
Every other reviewer has been trying to tell us to look past the price, it’s clear some didn’t wanna be in VW’s bad books. What I really like about you on every review is that you’re brutally honest and I agree for that price the new Polo GTI is missing something the previous facelift had. Still a great car though and definitely so much fun, unfortunately the other models in that segment are trying to compete with Polo where price is concerned but aren’t really giving us that Polo drive train.
I understand second hand Golf 7/7.5 GTI's have been abused and all that. You will however certainly find a gem among the rest and at a cool ZAR 500 - 600K (10 - 40k's on the clock) less than a year old if not slightly more with a good 2 years or so motorplan left, with an extra 12-15k you can have 2 years extended waranty on the thing and drive away smiling with a much more premium class car than the Polo because lets face it the polo guy will always be inferior to the golf gti guy anywhere, stock cars anyway. might even get a 2017-18 golf 7.5R actually with maybe 70-80k's on the clock do the same extend warranty and enjjoy the car.
As we wait for the Golf 8R!! Ohh lord i bet that will be around R1.1M - 1.2M mark, then comes another VAG the RS3 (2022/23) R1.4-1.6M if not more..what a time to be alive!!!
GREAT review !!!
Completely agree with you: Great car, redicilous price.., & so "no thank you", and ABSOLUTELY YES fir the Swift Sport 😄👍😎💪!!
Brilliant motoring advice !
Well done !!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Or you could get a second hand Jaguar F-Type for around the same price. Supercharged V6 with 400bhp or a Turbo i4 with not even 200bhp. If this is suposed to be a driver enthusiast car, getting this car is a huge mistake in my opinion.
Maintenance and fuel costs nd insurance costs on a Jag is going to spank you. Plus it's not as practical
Or a used BMW M140i if you are looking for a hot hatch with premium quality. Fuel consumption is not good but a significant step up on interior quality and a hoot to drive.
I owned the previous version of this from 2020 and the interior quality was its big drawback. The dampers on the previous model were much friendlier on a daily drive (great if you got the Sport Select Suspension).
The front LED strip unfortunately looks cheap on this car too.
Saying all of this as a huge Polo GTi fan (owned two previous gens before).
They brag about the Polo GTI only being made in South Africa yet they cost much cheaper in countries they are exported to
Songs - Yes, leave it be, write your own new ones and try to improve on the old ones, like with the cars.
Have to agree about car prices, but as a journo you should know to put things in context, I know you tried, but at the end it came over as if this particular car was way to expensive, and if so, well then fine you made that clear, but it should be seen in context and that should be stated as such!!!
What you get for R494600.
Features of GTI
17" Milton Keynes Alloy wheels 7.5J x 17
Composition Media Radio
Leather-wrapped multi-function touch sports steering wheel, with shifting paddles
"Art Velour" leather interior trim for seats and door trim
IQ. Light LED Matrix Headlamps
LED rear combination lamps
Electronic differential lock XDS, dynamic traction support
Is this car R115,000 better than the time it was first launched at R375,000?
Juliet forgot about the mini cooper s, its more expensive but i would rather have that than the polo since the mini is just as quick, makes a very nice sound and inside its not a sea of plastic like the polo
she is spot on here, you want a sporty little hatch this isnt what you get it just costs too much you can get an older golf GTi nothing wrong with that or the Suzuki swift that is bladdy awesome for what it is and way cheaper and oral pleasure is very important thats true.
Get the Swift and u still got extra for extras 👌
I don't think anybody wants oral pleasure in a polo.
I think she meant aural pleasure...like ears...
I wouldn't take this even if given for free. I would'nt want to worry about hijackers!
suzuki swift was the second best seller behind the hilux in April, so people are finally seeing the light.
I'd rather buy a haval 4 that money and even spec it much better than that polo😂😂😂🙄🙄🙄🙄
I was thinking exactly the same thing! And you can carry the whole family in spacious comfort!
some people want more from life...not driving around in a soccermoms Haval kinda vibe
@@pornokid333 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
And be get 13L per 100 in eco mode.
@@phakamanibrianmtshara150 I'm willing to over look that stop and go at every petrol station because, its practical and i really love the car 🤞🙈🙈🙈☺☺☺☺☺
That 3 year 45000km service plan is a biiig problem for me on a +R500k car.
Love the new polo GTI, but the price, the suspension and no vrrrr pah? Come on man!
Yes I agree with Juilet. It's too overpriced and not practical. There are alot of good second hand German practical cars for the same price
I share you sentiments wrt pricing of cars today. Not that long ago a Golf GTI was a mere R400 000.00.
I have seen a few go well over 600k ..About to purchase a 2020 face-lift with 26k kilos on clock never thought I'd pay so much for a Polo but what else is there
Great car
Overpriced car, just like a lot of them in audi
I can't tell you how much I agree that some songs should be left alone! When I hear remixes of Abba or similar I switch the radio off immediately.
oh my god this car looks so plain... boring to look at, why is it so ugly?
What about the Mini cooper S 2.0L as an alternative..
Most Gti's will be driven to the max, therefore this is a good option new instead of a Golf 7 or 7.5 GTi with mileage. These are always abused. I owned 4 GTi's in my lifetime and all of them except the Golf 3 were really playful vehicles. AND affordable of course, in some way. I see many drivers out there with windows open listening to the exhausts and DSG, hammering away from intersections.
A PLAIN OLD 6 SPEED MANUAL WOULD MAKE IT CHEAPER AND A FAR BETTER CAR FOR THE GENERAL BUYER. DSG = PROBLEMS
Polo GTI is definitely too hard to enjoy as a daily ‘comfortable’ car. Softer ride will make it perfect🔥
Fantastic review. Can't agree more about the price and what it offers. Simply it's not worth it no matter how much fun it is.
I would rather buy a Golf 7.5 GTI , even the 7.5 Golf R.....yes it's Second-hand but still better value i feel
You buy a used performance car at own risk I suppose.
As painful as it is I'd rather buy the over priced polo brand new and only get one optional extra Sunroof.
Buying from a reputable dealer and adding a maintenance plan wil still be less than a brand new polo gti. And in yhe case of VW you can actually add a 4 year maintenance to quality approved vehicles which is more than the OPTIONAL 3 year plan with the polo gti. Technically GTI and R isn't really Sports cars they are everyday cars with a bit performance engineered in....but their drivetrains can be found in and VW or Audi product as such...i mean a normal mundane Audi A4 can be had with the exact same engine en gearbox as a GTI. Something to think about!

Another great honest consumer lens review Juliet. GTI badge aside, even the standard midrange Polo Life has increased by 50% over original 2018 release for what is effectively the same car. Sales volume trends should start reflecting over the next few months a truer impact of the peoples car not being as accessible for the people.
Julia, you called it. WTF is up with VW? People's Car se gat. Think you can't get quality and great value elsewhere? And the eye watering price isn't yet the car you want. I have 2 words for VW: Haval, and Chery.
long time follower of your channel. One thing tho, may you please give us the figures in HORSEPOWER at least you can write it on the screen. You are fun to watch but the whole KILLO WATTS its a turn off!!! Horsepower is a basic standard every Joe, Jack and Jill can understand without having to pull out a calculator or google to convert the killowatts to horsepower. Thank you
Fun car Yes. Should one buy a Polo my view is look for something else. Remove rear seat. It might work as a 2 seater.
Received delivery of my Polo gti and I simply love it. I get a lot of eyes on the road. Driving a second hand sports car which is out of warranty plus no maintenance plan or about to expire just doesn’t cut it for me. Imagine buying a 7.5 gti today and owning it for the next 6years 😂 buy the time you sell it will be a 10 - 11 year old car with an old look. The golf 7.5 gti is not cheaper either and you will pay more servicing the vehicle and cross your fingers that the engine and gearbox doesn’t break.
I thing I don’t like with the new polo are the continental wheels from factory 👎 they really suck in my opinion. There is bearly no grip
Vw BMW Toyota which own the monopoly, all increased there prices by over 10% from the previous years 10% increase because of weaker rand anxiety 😦 they don’t bring the prices down when the rand performs better.
Vw pricing just doesn't make sense anymore. And the polo gti got lazy and obese. Too much chop and dop
Like your reviews, Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.4 Tbi Distinctive 125kw, far better. 🍀🇮🇹👍♥
And now they tuned my 2018 polo gti to that version no more vrrrphaa phaaaa.and vw sa tells me is normal, they have done those things after service
Great review👌🏼
Love that deep sound it has...but it's over priced. A secondhand Golf 7.5 GTI is a better option. ( in my option)
The new Toyota Supra (aka Z4)is a great example of a car that should have just been left alone. The original was great. This modern day "remix" is just sad🤣😅🤙
Why does all the cars you drive have a GP number plate? Do they send the cars from Gauteng all the way to the Westen Cape?
FFS I'd rather buy a pre-owned Jaguar F-type. For less money.
Look I agree, VVrrpa is important at that price range. cars a ridiculously expensive. still love the honest review
Lol not enough car, this car is well suited for it's price range compared to the golf gti that costs almost double.
Totally agree. VW pricing is madness when you add the options
look at it this way.. u pay more but when u are selling it u also get more than u would get for a equivalent of this car ... and thats the fact
1:20, clicked on this video because of the beautiful view, where is this location?
I watch all your reviews Julliet, very exciting listening to you
Pity Hyundai don't sell the i20N here.
The Hyundai i30N is going for R 749 900 and the Toyota GR Yaris is going for R640,600.00 so the The Swift Sport at R 377 900 would be a better alternative however if someone has this money then why not go buy a Hilux Double Cab for R479 200 ? You would be a weird customer to buy this Polo GTI and not know of another way better options out there
Why on earth would somebody cross shop this with a Hilux double cab?
VW engine is good value . Chip it to 180 Kw for a speedy ride . It’s a cheap Porsche . LED headlights not so much . 55k replacement cost and they are v popular with thieves
@Lidový vůz na cestách true
Really awesome review, always love checking it out, all your reviews makes such quite an impact when choosing a car, compared to other motoring journalists out there. Keep it up
Will you be reviewing the new polo life as well? Which price tag is also quite hefty for a polo too
buy G7 second hand and be happier
Please review the Volkswagen Taigo!!
Great analysis from a drive lover , Thanks 🔝
Audi A3 S is a good alternative
Can you get the i20N in SA? Even the i30 N Line is a tidy enough option for a ~150kW hatch.
The I20N is not sold in SA and neither the I30 N line. We do however have the recently launched I20 N line
How obnoxious.
i dont want people to know what i bought, hence i like the low sound. if you put it in normal mode is suspension more comfy for city?
i think the suspension is static..it doesnt adjust in different modes, just the ecu for engine adjusts its response
Probably 17 inch wheel are more confortable
If you want a small, fun and reasonably priced car you buy a Fiat panda. Its super cool.
lol what, that thing looks like a Postman Pat car
Fiat stand for: Fix It Again Tony!

🤣🔥I love this
Lekker meisie 👍
Very Nice 👌🏼

The interest rate will be moving 100bps by the end of the year..the period for cheap lending is coming to an end..back to pre covid in a few months time. Maybe this will bring prices down?

100bp ... that equates to 1%, right? On a R490 000 loan that's about R200pm more? Don't think that will put people off in this segment. Not that financing a GTi toy in the post-Covid economy is something you should do, but hey, I'm not other people's financial advisor LOL.
