Phenominal movie. Men like those endured beyond belief difficulties & gave us our freedom. Greatest Generation!
Really enjoyed remembering how me and my brothers watched this film and had such admiration for our men who served. Such a great old film.
Quite a tense drama, though I thought the personal flashbacks were a needless digression. I've never seen it before so it was enjoyable to watch an unfamiliar vintage movie. Thanks for sharing...
The true spirit of 1776 still remains in our military as well as other ally countries truly indomitable, honest and strong . We salute you all
Excellent movie! Could or would our soldiers do that today? I hope so.
Yes
Today, the enemy would torture modern American POW's by repeated misgendering...
Dana Andrews' final speech is the best....And they did come by day and night.....99% of the Japanese cities were pulverized by B-29 raid....Not to mention the A-Bomb drops on Hiroshima and Nagasaki...
Did you know that over 100 atomic bombs were dropped on America?
@@Absaalookemenschclarify??
@@Theradicalreb Over 100 atomic bombs were dropped over America for tests.
In the 1960s it was common to see the light of the atomic blasts north of Las Vegas.
That's 50 times the bombs that were used against Japan.
@peterbamforth6453 As an addendum to what I commented previously, apparently one of the crews captured after the raid, they were put on trial and three of the members were executed. As for the rest of the crew, I don't know how many survived the war, and their names in the movie were obviously changed to protect their identities and their lives.
If only the Japanese were that nice ... in reality they were many times worse!
A powerful battle hymn if i can say so. and has I myself look into the dying sun and remember there sacrifice..
He told him off but good 🇺🇸
When in H.S. I read about the Doolittle raid. I remember reading that several American airmen we're executed by the Japanese
Dean Hallmark, William Farrow and Harld Spatz were executed on October 15th, 1942. Robert J Meder died from illness on December 11, 1943. Meder was 26, Hallmark was 28, Farrow 24 and Spatz 21. Never forget!
Clean shaves throughout.
I already know what this movie is going to talk about. It's gonna talk about one of the bomber Crews of the Doolittle raid back in 1942. Because For those of you who don't no. Yes they really did have a trial for one of these crews
Good morning I'm glad to see it
The captured members of the 1942 Doolittle Raid
were put on trial & 3 of them were executed.
More than three.
@@carolecarr5210
publicly only 3,
but others were beaten on a daily basis
& died of it.
@@carolecarr5210 Weren't hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians murdered in reprisals after the raid ?
Sad but true.
@peterbamforth6453 It's a propaganda film for the most part being that it was meant to galvanize the American public to support the war effort and to fight on to victory. It was partly based on fact insofar as it was about the Doolittle raid on Tokyo and other Japanese cities in April of 1942. I don't recall any of the members of the raid who were shot down having been put on trial though. I believe they were executed not long thereafter when the event happened, so, the trial shown in the film was most likely not factual, and was done for dramatic purposes to stir up morale for the war effort.

I wish all these old movies would be colorized in 4K Please raise the volume on this movie. Its hard to hear it.
Got a bit sloppy at1.03 with all those Kirby memories

Did the Japanese go and have dinner with Pearl Harbor before they bombed em? Come on fellows, let’s go! Mr honorable Jerome Q brown, esq
1.32:00 apparently Americans can say this but not Israelis.
If America had begun colonizing Japanese territory before Pearl Harbor this comparison would be applicable. However, that didn't happen.
No credits?. No movie
Can you say nuke?
As in "Nuke the site from orbit...it's the only way to be sure." Yeah. I can say 'nuke.'
Sublim💪🫶👍
First !
They came night and day they blacked Japan sky's and hows🇺🇸
Is this film based on fact ? Or is it an american war propaganda film ?
Good Q
Loosely based on certain facts. But mostly for propaganda as the movie was made while we were still at war. However, three crewmen were executed after being found guilty during a mock trail. Dean Hallmark, William Farrow and Harold Spatz. October 15th 1942.
Oh good grief. Please move to Russia.
What do you think.
Why did the movie speed up when they showed the aircraft crashing? Ruined a great movie!
Jan 6th hearing II
Why are the Japanese portrayed as evil and sadistic? Whoever has read the "Incomparable beauty of the flowering cherry tree" know they are a sensitive and kind race. Besides, they gave us Honda and Toyota....
But this is nearly 100 years ago lol, things change my friend
You ever read any accounts of the people held by the Japanese in their pow camps? I grew up with one and he filled me in.
Maybe you should indulge how crude and evil they were to all the Prisoners of War! Battan March in Phillipines! Obviuosely your either ignorant or a flower yourself! USN RET
@@leovisky they haven’t a clue, I grew up with a fellow who was at Nichols field and spent the entire war in the coal mines in japan.
You are delusional. They were anything but. Have you heard of Rape of Nanking , Unit 731 and Bataan Death March.
