Really enjoyed remembering how me and my brothers watched this film and had such admiration for our men who served. Such a great old film.

Quite a tense drama, though I thought the personal flashbacks were a needless digression. I've never seen it before so it was enjoyable to watch an unfamiliar vintage movie. Thanks for sharing...

@peterbamforth6453 As an addendum to what I commented previously, apparently one of the crews captured after the raid, they were put on trial and three of the members were executed. As for the rest of the crew, I don't know how many survived the war, and their names in the movie were obviously changed to protect their identities and their lives.

@peterbamforth6453 It's a propaganda film for the most part being that it was meant to galvanize the American public to support the war effort and to fight on to victory. It was partly based on fact insofar as it was about the Doolittle raid on Tokyo and other Japanese cities in April of 1942. I don't recall any of the members of the raid who were shot down having been put on trial though. I believe they were executed not long thereafter when the event happened, so, the trial shown in the film was most likely not factual, and was done for dramatic purposes to stir up morale for the war effort.

Loosely based on certain facts. But mostly for propaganda as the movie was made while we were still at war. However, three crewmen were executed after being found guilty during a mock trail. Dean Hallmark, William Farrow and Harold Spatz. October 15th 1942.
