This is the problem with Africa and our politicians our political systems is so heavily monetised how to we expect to get good leaders if you have to have money to become president.
No, the problem is your failure to undertake some simple research which would have showed you that it is a common thing even in the top nations, not just Africa.
taxpayers are there to pay your 100s of millions after you retire like kibaki and ther rest uhuru is 500m plus a year taxpayers will pay for his retirement kenya juu

Not to one up Kenya, but the situation in Nigeria is really worse, you need 230,000 usd for the presidential ticket, non refundable and just the ticket to participate excluding other costs. 🤦🏾♂️ that’s why corruption is the order of the day in Africa.
I don't know whom this piece was directed at but, Kenyans want a strengthened policy on public limit/cap on local financing & absolute curbing of foreign financing. Laws are there just, need strengthening, to seal loopholes. Edit: Good thing, though; No anonymous donations allowed, by constitutional law in Kenya and with a caveat of course; right to free access of information.
@@Turthhurt as a politician if you solve the problems of the people they'll no longer need you. So, to keep them needing you you solve minor minor problems and leave them suffering
I can assure you, as a Kenyan, that this is very small money for a Kenyan presidential campaign. The leading presidential candidates here spend more than 5 times that amount🤷🏾♂️

Antony, I am not wishing I am stating fact. I couldn't care less. Africans are not enlightened, they simply vote their tribe. Since Kenya's independence from Britain only one tribe has been president.,is that fair??? You might as well partition the country according to tribal affiliations. The civil service in Kenya is heavily dominated by one tribe, even matatus are heavily dominated by one tribe. Instead of calling your country Kenya they might as well call it after the one tribe that is so dominant, so overbearing, so overwhelming of almost everything to the exclusion of the rest. I can't speak for any other country, but integrity in Kenyan politics is an oxymoron.

Lmao, who was expecting mpigs to vote for laws that actually make politics fair
Corruption is how they return their investments on campaigns, that's the greatest impediment .

those estimates are just a small fraction of the amount used to campaign.

You need to mention that its just to parti icipate in the primary party election and not the general elections
You forgot handouts. Kenyan politicians give out handouts like shit
Money spent on campaigns is why corruption is rampant in Kenya. That is why politicians have to recoup what they've spent during campaign period.

Wow!. We need this kind of breakdown for Nigeria
Why not just use the money to help those people who are in need??

they need you to be needy so you can vote them in.
Where is Kenya' s highest court or criminal justice system. I don't know if the political system has more power than the justice system.
You forgot to mention 'distribution' to the massess and bussing them to different rally venues.🥴🥴
Nice video. This explains why kina bahati are spending millions
Well said Ashley.
Its very expensive but you can get back your cash within a few months in office.
Its the fastest way to become rich in Kenya
In Ghana , a presidential candidate would spend around $100 million
