I am not totally agree on this, I think it is up to the role, the real main role of each particular series, e.g. if that series is about female lead story it will of course the female role will get more comment so do vv.
At first I was wondering why on earth the leading actress of this show isn't a drop dead good looking, idol type of girl, I soon understand why they casted Seven as the lead role. The actress is so talented and pretty much the heart of the show.
The actress is really a good actress. Her acting is natural, and she can handle different type of roles in her dramas. She has good chemistry with all her partners in dramas too. Overall she's just amazing especially in endearing role like jianjian. Sometimes some actress may overact in playing character like jianjian but seven is really good in this character.
The role itself has nothing to do with pretty girl.. Seven is the right choice for this role.. even if the team doesn't chose her, they won't choose someone that is drop dead georgeus like you said.. cause it's not the point of the role.. they might go for Angel Zhao, Shen Yue, Ireine Song or anyone else with great acting and have cute tiny appearance that might be the basic criteria in choosing actress for Li Jianjian character..
