Great job! My first thought there would be that 12Mhz Crystal - might be worth swapping that out if you get chance! These get dropped all the time and I've seen the crystals damaged by drops like that.
@@hddrecoveryservices There's something very satisfying in watching a skilled person do his or her thing. Added bonus with your videos is that the subject of data recovery is of special interest to me.
One item that is easy to check before taring into the sticks is the crystal oscillator. The crystals on cheap sticks can be damaged when the stick is dropped and a quick crystal change could have you back in business. Fun Vid, thx
yes, but our statistics show that it is highly unlikely for the clock to go bad on Sandisk like this. We've tested a bunch in past, and only the controller/nand swap gets the win.
Think you might be on to something. Could just be a control line or something. Because if the controller chip was fried there was no way to recover the data from the NAND if it was encrypted by the manufacturer. Without their help or breaking the encryption. Which probably wouldn’t be that hard on a drive of that type.

That's a LOT of work (and, I'm sure, money) for not backing up their teensy 512k flash drive... Hope they learned their lesson.
Is it too much trouble to rig a controller socket??? Seems like that would be very helpful.
That would have been awesome

It is always good to make an image first, but for image I use data extractor in PC3000

Yes, after I did this video I tried to recover data from NAND using controller simulation software and it could not be solved
