I surfed for 43 years, and took some heavy wipeouts. 3 neck surgeries and a 3 level cervical titanium plate canceled the show. I, and my friends took chances on some pretty large waves, but never on the size of this that could threaten your existence. I mean, I realize that any wave of size could cause a death injury but waves like in this video are almost asking for it. I know this....adrenaline can cause addiction. It is serious for those that love to cheat death. Read about it, and maybe tell someone you love. You chase certain dragons and they will grow up and chase you once!
Yeah, I surfed huge Yallingup once and that finished my big wave surfing experiment. I was just sitting way out in the bay assessing whether I was even going to try and catch one, when a huge set came through and closed out on my head. There was 3 waves in a row, and I went so deep I thought I was going to drown. Each time I came up in a worse position, and with only enough time to grab a quick breath. When I saw the last wave coming, I wrapped my arms and legs around my 8' board and just held on for grim death!! I knew If I went deep again I was dead!! Fortunately the last wave washed me in. My girlfriend at the time thought I was dead., She couldn't see me for about a minute. I still surf, but am happy with shoulder to head high. The guys riding these waves are nuts!! I just don't think it's worth it. I don't want to be scared shitless or risk death. Surfing should be fun. It's thrilling to ride a big wave and make it, and I've experienced the thrill of big waves - but this is another level!! I do love watching these kind of clips, and I give them credit for doing it, but this risk isn't worth the reward.
This, along with Shipsterns Bluff on the other side of Australia are probably the most unrideable waves of them all, though not the highest or biggest. The face, the thickness of the wall and the speed with which the crest rolls down are quite similar and very scary.
Yes it is. The wave breaks on a dry reef. Ryan hipwood jumped off the back of it got sucked down 90 feet and almost died. He said there were spinning vortices that kept pulling him deeper n deeper. Think it was on gypsy tales podcast
I don't think I was this scared watching a wave since Code Red Teahupoo hit youtube in 2011. I can't imagine how any of these guys on the boat right before gearing up to go into one of these told themselves to charge this thing.
Seriously, like they have to know their chances are slim to nil to stay outta the jaws of that beast what with a volcanic, heaving wall that repels rails, a 4 story vert drop drop, two additional breaking lips on the inside that just crop up, as well as the continental shelf of water over the top. YOWZA! These guys have iron balls and lungs!
@ChakRaLight riding a wave like that is not 'embarrassing' however you're riding it.... and for however long. It's a lot of things but embarrassing is not one of them.
I like the one where he wants to get the hell off the wave asap but if he doesnt find the right exit he knows all hell is waiting to take him over and downnnnn
Depending on the tides, there could literally be more water above your head than below your board - there’s a rocky outcrop that sometimes gets exposed on big enough waves. Utterly nuts, don’t ever let me get anywhere near that thing.
For me, Surfing is like dancing with a woman.... The more beautiful, the more the connection. This is an ugly babababab. Oh the beauty of JAWS, a tango and desire to mate..... I only have pin-ups..... LOLOLOL
I don't know how those boys survived that volume of water coming down on top of them. And it looks pretty shallow too. I hope they lived to tell the story.
Wow you guys are crazy doing that shit those waves look thick and huge I am scared looking at it but I would not even get in the water love watching though be safe
Those wipeouts are so brutal! It’s hard to imagine how someone could survive something like that. Those guys took such a pounding! All those who actually surf and know what it’s like to wipeout on a larger wave or to be sucked over the falls know....it’s really not pleasant. Seeing these guys being worked over like that... that’s pretty darn rough. And that one wave that the guy decided to get off of....best idea he had all week! That thing was a total monster about to munch him up. Riding stuff like that is for a certain breed for sure. T
Jake Atherly I think most are saved by the fact that they're sucked into the wave before going over the falls. So they're enclosed in water more or less the whole time. If you just straightened out and took that lip in the face, I think you'd just be crushed to paste.
when you are down in warpole locals don't tell people where it is , secret squirrel stuff ..which is a bit of a joke really . as only handful of people in the entire planet would surf it anyway . the southern ocean is dark and mysterious , no secret there , just very cold with giant sharks waiting for you .
Weather you make it or not , just to go on this beast and live , they will never feel more alive . Looking death in the eyes and conquering the fear , that’s what’s going on out there ! Fully alive after a session in giant bone crushers ! Aloha
First wave is about 12-14 metres. At Nazare for kick ass waves put more 10 meters above 1st wave shown here . Like Rodrigo Koxa ride one. Hugo Vau is waiting for results concerned of his 'Big Mama' ride (about 35 meters)... Need a ruler? This is published in 2016, McNamara surfed a 23 meter one in 2011... Do some research!!!
Hard to believe these guys survive a wipeout on a wave with such intensity and heaviness. How is it possible to not get smashed into little pieces on a reef which is sucking dry with the weight of 500 olympic swimming pools behind it ?
That bodyboarder basically jumped out of a 3rd story window face first, thought cool im alright and then got hit by the 3 ton truck, respect to all!
That bodyboarder made my day :)
I wasn't really paying attention, then I had to go back and make sure it was a bodyboard...SICK!!! :)))
Jake stone 🙌🙌
In this world people lose their shit over throwing a ball around or running in a circle. Starved they are. Legendary.
Maybe we must get all professional soccer players to surf here. This could put and end to their whining every-time they touch a blade of grass.
I think we may have a new contender for worst wipeout in bodyboarding history.
Absolutely
that did not look fun.....
i think u meant new winner
That was brutal...This is a scary ass wave, I'll sit this out haha
Bodyboarders always get the waves of the day on the mutants!!

James Bledsoe my dads mate justin all poet was at cape solander and fell off and had to get surgery

The wave is like how dare you surf inside me!!!
You better pullout !

You forgot to mention the rights twin sister Cyclops.
Australia has the most dangerous breaks apart from pipeline
Even without the crazy heavy wave, it’s a terrifying place, sharks, cold, isolation, raw
At 0:21 to 0:24 --- is that exposed reef in the lower right of the screen? If so, that is INSANE to be riding these waves!
Yes it is. The wave breaks on a dry reef. Ryan hipwood jumped off the back of it got sucked down 90 feet and almost died. He said there were spinning vortices that kept pulling him deeper n deeper. Think it was on gypsy tales podcast
I don't know how they live through that.
Watching that makes me think that I'm a total kook, great footage and amazing fearless wave riders!!!!
Not a kook, just a different attack on the subject ,everyone is different 😉

symbioticexchange this should be a top comment
All this slow motion these days is giving me the shits.
Word. Slow mo and surfing don’t mix.
With waves that heavy do they wear those small lifejackets? and guess you tuck in tight as arms and legs get ripped out!
As a non-surfer I find it amazing no one dies in these videos. Wow. Ball shrinking shots.
Dave Stephens They probably don't release videos of the guys that do.
i cant help but feel like screaming out YEWWWWW!!!!
Heavier than Teahupoo?
So heavy it looks more like the ocean is just curling over, than it looks like a wave.
The shark biscuit wipeout is classic !
THOSE guys are freaking insane, and that one on a boogie board, super insane
omg that bodyboarder took it hard
faaaaaaarkenelllllllllllllll who was the bodyboarder?! props to all of those waveriders. xxxxxxxL
That bodyboarder is Jake Stone. Credit where credit's due
He shoulda went drop knee
Credit should be on screen. Edit needed Bonython
@ChakRaLight if you call that embarrassing clearly you've never surfed
@ChakRaLight riding a wave like that is not 'embarrassing' however you're riding it.... and for however long. It's a lot of things but embarrassing is not one of them.
They should interview these guys afterwards
gjukic why to make sure they all survived?lol
Do you know what else would have been exciting? Sound.
I like the one where he wants to get the hell off the wave asap but if he doesnt find the right exit he knows all hell is waiting to take him over and downnnnn
wow that wave is crazy. This guys are nuts. way harder than teahupo
jake stone on the lid !!!! aka stone balls hes my hero
Depending on the tides, there could literally be more water above your head than below your board - there’s a rocky outcrop that sometimes gets exposed on big enough waves. Utterly nuts, don’t ever let me get anywhere near that thing.
Waves waving.
For me, Surfing is like dancing with a woman.... The more beautiful, the more the connection. This is an ugly babababab.
Oh the beauty of JAWS, a tango and desire to mate.....
I only have pin-ups..... LOLOLOL
I'd rather go to the dentist than go surfing with these guys.
The right is actually 2 waves for the price of one. Brutal.
More like one wave for the price of two...
Al HassanT cape le grand has 2 huge breaks.. Cyclops isn't far
I don't know how those boys survived that volume of water coming down on top of them. And it looks pretty shallow too. I hope they lived to tell the story.
Wow you guys are crazy doing that shit those waves look thick and huge I am scared looking at it but I would not even get in the water love watching though be safe
First wave savage. No way Rudi was coming out of there and he just sent it!
Such a thick lip to the wave pretty awesome wave
The Sponger!!!! My God. Guy has BALLS. Well, maybe not after that monster of a wave
It looks like a suicide attempt lol. There is no escape plan on that wave.
"It's death on a stick out there, mate..."
wow, did you see the shrak?
The right place to go!!
Wow! That's just crazy
good way to go .
That is such a nasty, monster of a wave. It looks angry!
ohhh looks tough
i wish this spot was used in the origanal point break for bells beach final wave
Gr8 footage!!
This is fucking unreal!
That sinking feeling when you going over the falls to hell.
This bodyboarder is Jake Stone. Ive seen some pics of this wave at his instagram account. Completely insane!
why is there no non-slow mo footage for the right??
Savage stuff!
Funny you don't see kai Lenny or those guys surfing the Right. Takes an set of balls even the great big wave guys lack at this place
IDK, to be honest this wave just doesn't look very fun. Kind of like, let me just see if I survive. That's why Kai doesn't surf there.
I would LOVE to see this video in regular speed
holy f***ing shit!
Lliam Smith yes
Faaaaaaaaaaaaark that .
Those wipeouts are so brutal!

T
Are they covered by the ACA
all hail the boogie boarder at the end
beautiful
Damn some heavy beatings being dished out there.
did the bodyboarder die??😣😣🙏
That's a vicious wave
Mam those are some heavy waves!
Am i wrong or The Right is very similar to Shipstern Bluff?
It looks like shipstern to me as well because of the wave on a wave effect.
I believe it shipstern, it's the only wave I've seen with those two small nasty inner waves
Probably are two different names for the same place
No they are different. Shipsterns is in Tasmania (Australia)
No they are different. Shipsterns is in Tasmania (Australia)
trust the booger to have the most hectic wave
Nothing can destroy a sponge! ✊
Some say it's more exciting than stamp collecting, but I seriously doubt it.
What happened to the first surfer who wiped out in this video?
I don't understand how someone survives this, I really don't. I mean how deep is it there. Thats like 100 tons of water falling on your head.
Jake Atherly I think most are saved by the fact that they're sucked into the wave before going over the falls. So they're enclosed in water more or less the whole time. If you just straightened out and took that lip in the face, I think you'd just be crushed to paste.
the 1st wave, im pretty sure is the heaviest wave ever towed into...
idk that 2nd wave looks pretty thicc
that had to have HURT
holy shit
when you are down in warpole locals don't tell people where it is , secret squirrel stuff ..which is a bit of a joke really . as only handful of people in the entire planet would surf it anyway . the southern ocean is dark and mysterious , no secret there , just very cold with giant sharks waiting for you .
OMG!!!
That booger just copped the fattest wave on him ever
absolutely insane!
We just witnessed someone die
Weather you make it or not , just to go on this beast and live , they will never feel more alive .
Looking death in the eyes and conquering the fear , that’s what’s going on out there !

how large are these waves?
I'm pretty sure some of those are more meaty than Teahupoo
I'm wondering: How much fun do you want to have? [awestruck]
Chuck Norris called that bodyboarder and apologized for being born...
How nobody has died here is beyond me.
That is just annnnngry brah
can anyone whose surf or big wave savvy give an estimate how big that wave was? would that be at least a 12to 15 ft?
Make the surfer 6ft and estimate from there -just remember from the back of wave...
freakin crazy
how do you live through this
I'm gonna sit this one out.
Just a Mutant slab......
Jesus. This wave is the cure for not being dead.
Rest in peace ❤
Hard to believe these guys survive a wipeout on a wave with such intensity and heaviness. How is it possible to not get smashed into little pieces on a reef which is sucking dry with the weight of 500 olympic swimming pools behind it ?
Exposed reef right there. Yikes!
Mavericks I've seen get bigger than this, Mate.
Everyone says pipe is the heaviest, but my money is on The Right.
There's not much water under that baby to cushion you when you go over the falls!
The bodyboarder is mad..
heavy
Got Ragdoll?
That's not a wave, that's a cliff.
