I strive to be a gentleman, and have raised my son to do the same. It comes from a perspective of wanting to contribute positively to society. Society exist to support and benefit us all. But we all, each of us, have to choose to support it for it to work as it should. But I don’t go insane with it. I use it as a lifestyle to support polite interaction. If things get ugly, it can be dropped easily.
Sir Walter Raleigh lay his cloak down for Elizabeth 1st of England to cross a puddle on the pathway hence the story became an example of a gentleman .Although he still ended up a prisoner in the tower of London for a few years and was beheaded eventually .The poetry he wrote must have been really bad to annoy someone that much

Appreciate both comments. Huge compliments on the celebrity comparisons. I just watched Parenthood with Steve Martin the few nights ago. Never saw it before.
I'm 67 and worked for a 24 year old female boss. Being an old fashioned gentleman I once held the door open for her as she carried an armful of paper work and asked her if she wanted help with it. She turned round and said " I'm a strong independent woman and can manage" !! I never offered again !
I have a boring but true story for you. I was in New York at Christmas I was told not to expect politeness or consideration from people while walking around in the busy city. Wrong! I found people were saying excuse me if they nudged in to me by accident and if I held a door I got a thanks so just like home in the UK happily surprised how friendly everyone was that’s in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
When people don't thank me for holding the door open, I really want to kick them up the arse. What's worse is it makes me feel pathetic because I'm on virtually the lowest rung on the ladder in my work place. At least I have manners.
New subscriber here. A great reactions, I like the idea of different reactionist. Your reactions to The Pub Landlord are great. British humour can be strange to some people but i like the way you both have embrace it. Please keep watching British The cloak and the puddle is a story from the times of Elizabeth 1st. Sir Walter Raleigh was an explorer who is credited with bringing potatoes and tobaco to England. The story is the Queen was walking with her courtiers and she came to a puddle. Sir Walter lay his clock over the puddle so the Queen could keep her feet dry, Cloaks were made to keep you dry in bad weather. This impressed the Queen and he became one of her favourite courtiers.
Queen Elizabeth I didn't execute Sir Walter Raleigh as she had been dead for years in 1618 when he was beheaded. It was King James I/VI who signed the warrant.
Always correct my grandchildren on their manners, please and thankyou goes a long way. Very rare to see many men holding doors open for women these days.
Being a gentleman, manners and acceptable behaviour are cornerstones of civilised society. In another of your video's, you said something like, "we're the worst generation of parents". Perhaps that's why.

THE BEST Comedy was born in the UNITED KINGDOM!
Like you mentioned about getting splashed, and among other things, a gentleman should always walk on the side closest to the road.

She still had him beheaded so it didn’t do him a lot of good in the long run
@@paulbromley6687 Yep, though to fair fair QE1 was a bit choppy chop happy.
@@paulbromley6687 She did not it was James 1st who had him executed, but i agree with the out come of his situation he did not need to shave again.

A Gentleman should walk on the outside of the pavement. To stop the lady getting splash from passing charges.
So he can buy the ice creams and burgers

Sadly, I'll never be a gentleman, as I don't have a cloak, and cannot find one on line. Even Amazon doesn't have them.
What's in it for you to be a gentleman, is, you will probably get on better with folk.
True
There should be no confusion, manners equals showing respect! 😏🧐
It is Moray that's where the Surname Murray derives from 👌
Good manners cost nothing

It's a reference to Sir. Francis Drake who laid his clock over a puddle so that Queen Elizabeth 1 wouldn't get wet shoes..
I thought the "puddle" was going to be the wet spot☺

À gentleman is someone who can play the bagpipes but choses not to
Unfortunately you missed the next part which was also the punchline.
Or just Fill in the POT holes so there is no Puddles in the 1st ,and who as cloak handy anyway in Britain or anywhere else.? .
To point out how a man is not acting like a gentleman isn't very ladylike!😜☺️😜🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🤪🤪🤪

10:18 ‘skipping is not one of the most ridiculous things ever invented’. I think you got that one wrong!? Try skipping in a bad mood?
Who wears cloaks anymore? A modern gentleman just throws himself bodily across the puddle so the lady can skip across. Yeah, nah...
Can I suggest you offer to pick her up and carry her over the puddle one it looks thoughtful but also you may cop an old fashioned feel with consent.
