Welding sheet metal with a stick welder isn't easy. It looks great, however, I am concerned about the rear shock towers not being strong enough. How do you plan to get at the mounting nuts now that they are covered with fiberglass?
This is pretty amazing. And I say this as someone who worked around body shops selling PB&E for years. I've seen a few conversions of this type done, and the only thing I can say that I would do differently would be a little stronger material at the top of the rear shock/strut towers and a heavier box system to tie the two upper rear towers together (probably a u shaped box to go under the rear window, with a couple of pillars down to the floor "frame"). Without it, I see some flex issues on the body/chassis, but overall it's amazing. I see some rust I would have cut out replaced as well to make it structurally stronger, but overall, I get the "where do I stop" question on an old beater like this... Also, MAD PROPS for using the stick welder on your sheet metal!
That is all you would do differently? Running those wheels backwards on cut up lug nuts is crazy. The strut towers yes need a heavier gauge material and bracing. The rear door latches were removed and not shown to go back in. Welding and filling in the rear door handles and rear door seam needed to be done as well to finish off the strength of cutting the rear structure completely out. Re bracing of the rear deck to the back of the car needed to be redone or kept in place.

I'd use the trunk lid and the piece of the roof to make a removable tonneau cover for the new bed. also since the bed seems to be water tight you might want to drill one or two small drain holes at the lowest end of it for rain and any spills.

My grandpa did basically the same thing to an old four-door sedan he had years ago when I was a kid. The main difference is he left the back doors where they opened. That way he could load stuff from the side without lifting it over if he had to.
I really like the way it came out, just be aware that running your wheels like that puts a lot more stress on your wheel bearings as well as some differences in handling.

He is a great skilled worker. But i don't understand why he wasn't do this as fully restauration . Either it looks great , and he did well. In Germany he could drive only to the TÜV and then walk home. Lol. And all People i know doing the same they was welding the backdoors completly too. ! So you can more static in the car. Even the rear shockabsorbers need mor strenght. But enough talking shit. I really admire your skills ! 👍👍
I think he cut too many corners here compared with his previous video where he restored an engine from the bottom of the ocean. Things he can work on are.. 1) restore the engine bay 2) install a back up light 3) roll out the fenders to cover the wheels 4) cover up the rear door handles 5) lift the front of the car 6) clean the suspension parts.
so much effort and you bypass doing things that directly impact the serviceability and safety of the car the rocker panel is a structural point on these and you did not replace the missing one and left a crap ton of rust holes in the floor by the pedals and put filler directly over rust with no conversion or removal of the rust, unfortunately, this is going to be falling apart faster than it took you to build it also how are you going to change struts in the rear as well as tail lights. I really like the idea and it is fun but I wish you had put more thought into the longevity and safety of the vehicle. Also, flip your wheels back around not only is that unsafe it does not look good.
Great conversion. Generally, I really like the finished car. I would have done a few things a little differently and would have strengthened it in a lot more places
Epic skill .. but those rims tho .. eek .. would defo have kept them installed the right way .buuuuuttttt.. he has proved that it works .. so has shown us it can be done for his use ! Good thinking outside the box. 😊
I really respect your work and effort. I have worked on vehicles my entire life and you make it look easy. My only concerns are the strength of that rear shock mount and access to the bolts now that they are glassed over. But overall impressive work as usual

I'm really injoy watching you amazing your my idol.👋👋👋👋
My grandpa did basically the same thing to an old four-door sedan he had years ago when I was a kid. The main difference is he left the back doors where they opened. That way he could load stuff from the side without lifting it over if he had to.
Smart man
Photos would be cool,
There was a guy in Virginia who did this to a Cadillac.
Việt nam mình có quá nhiều nhân tài…..
Quá ngưỡng mộ anh quá giỏi❤❤❤
Cai gì cũng lam dc
I really like the way it came out, just be aware that running your wheels like that puts a lot more stress on your wheel bearings as well as some differences in handling.
A LOT more i'd say. still, it should work, esp if its not daily driver on long distances ;)
He should widen the front wheel wells so he doesn't have the tires stop when turning
I wonder if he could lengthen the wheel studs and run twin rears like a dually?
Looks a bit like a Subaru brat with that raked stance
Very cool 😎👍
@@nostreamavailable9090 or weld two rims together, have you seen the guy from russia building the cyper punk car, you should check that out its pretty cool.
Great Job!!! But why leave the rear door handles?
The biggest achievement in my mind is taking all of that apart, especially the dash, and putting it back together.
The only thing I would have done extra is to spray the roof lining. Superb craftsmanship sir! It wouldn’t pass for registration in Australia with those tyres protruding though. 😱🙈😂👍🏻🙏🦘
love the work , love the ingenuity . But please anyone watching DO NOT copy this lug nut /spacer design for anything but slow off road use . Extremely dangerous and likely to fail at any moment . Anything over 20mph and this car will start to shake itself to pieces from those lug nut extensions .
I am a little worried for the rot and the rear coil mounts, but seeing as they are fiberglassed over, it may be fine for a while
until you want to replace those struts
Excellent very good work, please wear proper eye protection when welding so than you become older you can still see
I didn't want one of these until now. Go Mr. Ho!
I don’t always agree with every aspect of your designs, but there is no denying your skill and attention to detail. Good work, good video!

Damn, your creations are always magical, a joy to watch!
"Mom, can we have a Hilux?"
'We have a Hilux at home..."
Well done, Mr. Ho.
Fantastic video. Took a lot of work but great results. The only thing I would say is it would be seamless if you got rid of the back door handle and filled in the gap. Also a gate would be beneficial
Should have removed the rear door handles and filled it in as well as the space around the rear door and it would be perfect :)
Mr Ho congratulations on all your projects. you always inspire me to continue with my projects, at the same time give me grat ideas

1) restore the engine bay
2) install a back up light
3) roll out the fenders to cover the wheels
4) cover up the rear door handles
5) lift the front of the car
6) clean the suspension parts.
so much effort and you bypass doing things that directly impact the serviceability and safety of the car the rocker panel is a structural point on these and you did not replace the missing one and left a crap ton of rust holes in the floor by the pedals and put filler directly over rust with no conversion or removal of the rust, unfortunately, this is going to be falling apart faster than it took you to build it also how are you going to change struts in the rear as well as tail lights. I really like the idea and it is fun but I wish you had put more thought into the longevity and safety of the vehicle. Also, flip your wheels back around not only is that unsafe it does not look good.
tuyệt quá anh, chỉ tiếc là mấy chiếc xe độ chế không được phép đăng kiểm lưu hành ở Việt Nam
Thấy bạn💪🇷🇺
Great conversion. Generally, I really like the finished car. I would have done a few things a little differently and would have strengthened it in a lot more places
Epic skill .. but those rims tho .. eek .. would defo have kept them installed the right way .buuuuuttttt.. he has proved that it works .. so has shown us it can be done for his use !
Good thinking outside the box. 😊
Very nice work but the wheels with narrow tires goes not look good . With wider tires it would be much better.
Khâm phục tài năng của bạn. Hi vọng được gặp bạn ngoài đời thực.
I really respect your work and effort. I have worked on vehicles my entire life and you make it look easy. My only concerns are the strength of that rear shock mount and access to the bolts now that they are glassed over. But overall impressive work as usual
This is one of the most amazing and impressive rebuilding car project by a single person that i have ever seen.
Very cool but not sure why you did not weld the rear door and fill the handle. Also curious why you fiberglass over the rear shock tower. Overall a cool build.
Can you make me one of these mini trucks , in blue . I’ll pay good money here in Texas.😊
Impressive! You have some serious Skills! 👍 Awesome creation!
