  • Voices of Faith, We are Church Ireland and the School of Religion in Trinity College present two leading Catholic women in a public conversation to overcome the silence on issues that affect Catholics today and must be openly discussed for the future of an inclusive, egalitarian and harmonious Church.
Former Irish President Mary McAleese and feminist nun Sister Joan Chittister have both experienced attempts by the Catholic hierarchy to silence their voices. In this conversation, for the first time ever, these two courageous women come together to discuss their views on the many issues besetting our Church today and the possible solutions for change. (Please not there was a slight technical difficulty with Mary's microphone, however this is fixed at the 27min mark)

Thank you Joan and Mary for speaking up and out and to all the men and women who also speak up and out against injustice in
the everyday situations of their lives. The Gospel of Jesus continues to challenge the unfair, unjust structures that attempt to silence the love of God made visible in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, for all people, women and men. A blessing on your work and on the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers who live out the Gospel message
in and despite the confusion of the Church, only using words where necessary.

Well by Church Law, and law of the Land you cannot Uncatholicise (not even a word I know, but you get my drift) yourself! Dr Mc Aleese is a hero of Ireland, our country needs to stand up to this invasion finally, The Vatican, which really is the last standing part of the Roman Empire today… It’s couldn’t invade us physically, but managed to do it mentally, through their made up story of a Jesus Christ, and ever since like any other invasion, has constantly down through the ages committed War Crimes in Ireland, through the severe mistreatment of our citizens and most importantly our children and people must be aware of the financial raping of our old people that the Catholic Church has taking part in for many many years that nobody cares to highlight… All spoils of War shipped off to Rome/The Vatican… With the current state of our climate, we should go back to our pagan ways and start worshiping our land and planet!!!

The worst thing to happen Mc Aleese is that her son turned out gay. I dont think she has gotten over this. Is this noise she is making all a front for more underlying problems in her life. Everyone has a choice in life including Mary Mc Aleese. Stay in the church, leave the church, who cares just make a decision and get on with it. At the end of the day the only life that will matter will be her own and the book of life. The book of the lamb, so Mary stop cackling and get on with your own life and stop trying to spread your ideologies on others.

Mary, they don't want you to talk about the truth, the real issues. They want to keep treating us as a second class citizens. God bless all, and I pray to God that some day we are equally important. I noticed that every time a person speak with passion; people think we must be angry. Blessings to you and everyone speaking of these subjects.

Facebook is asking if Mary can give number and page for the quote from John Paul 11 Love and responsibility she cited during the conversation it was about a man's right to sexual act even when the partner/wife is asleep or even unconscious

    • @donallawlor2407

The quotation is on page 271 of Love and Responsibility a book that Karol Wojtyla wrote in 1960 when he was a bishop. I had read this book many years ago and this was not the tenor of the book that I recalled. I took it down from my bookshelf and found that quotation in the final chapter on ‘Sexology and Ethics’. In this chapter the author is looking at what the science of sexology says about the sexual act and then looking at this from an ethical point of view. This quotation was about what sexology says but what Mrs McAleese omitted was his follow up comments on the ethical view which he outlines later in the same paragraph. “From the point of view of another person, from the altruistic standpoint, it is necessary to insist that intercourse must not serve merely as a means of allowing sexual excitement to reach its climax in one of the partners. i.e. the man alone, but that climax must be reached in harmony, not at the expense of one partner, but with both partners fully involved”.
I am disappointed Mary gave completely the wrong impression of the thinking of Pope John Paul II who spent his life teaching respect for the human person.
      She should correct the record!
