As a former ICC certified building inspector and a plans reviewer, I think you're doing a fantastic job. You really take care to measure twice and cut once and thereby keep a handle on 'mistakes'. I like your work ethic of keeping everything clean as you work as well. Safety wise, I would advise a better scaffolding system. Taking too many chances there, bud. Keep up the good work!

Well, that makes sense, too! We’re not just watching you guys sweat, we’re watching you both think thru ALL THE THINGS. As I usually do when I comment here: I applaud your reasoning 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Love your videos, just wanted to let you know you can save time and material by just using a couple nails driven in level with the bottom plate to set the plywood on. This also allows you to adjust the plywood up or down by bending the nails. I know I know in a perfect world the wall would be perfectly square but framing ain't perfect. Lol

As a professional to you, the way you did it is REALY the only right way to do it. Always work smart, saves your energy and injuries! Also never ever do your cut outs until you are installing your windows and or doors. And always enclose it up unless you and your insurance company have figured out how to make money by creating a " hey come steal anything you want because we left the house wide open for your "CONVENIENCE" !!!!! For you two not to be professionals you are doing GREAT! And in the future if you have any ?s shoot me a line and if I do not know the answer I do know how to find one. My Dad until he retired was a Building Contractor. So I have an inside access to a wealth of information! Happy Building!

It worried me that you would be open to the world once you hit the bedroom wall, but teamwork, no more rot and forward planning saw you through once more. Leaving the openings boarded up until the windows and door come through, looks the very best way forward. No temporary construction to rip out, just final work in place. It was great to see Ashley have a real speaking part as well as doing the hard work of carpenter's assistant and being a mother to two growing children. One good solid wall to see you and them through for many years. I agree about the shutters, more to paint, more to hold the water and a style from another time. You both looked pleased with the progress as well you should.

The last house I remodeled I put small can lights under the eves. It amazing how much more light you have around the house instead of the typical spot lights on the corners or even a front porch light. It floods the front yard! It's also very clean and has a modern feel. Just thought I would suggest since you are at that point. It's looking good. I hate FAKE shutters as well. Glad there gone.

For all of Ashley's small size, she does so much of the hard work helping with this renovation. Both of you are inspirations. I can't wait for the windows and door to arrive. The place already looks a lot better with just the OSB on it. Good decision on the smaller window, cuts down on heat loss and traffic noise but still lets in light and you need wall space in a living room.

When my husband was overseas in the military, I converted our 2-car garage into a living room, I wanted it as my kitchen, but I couldn't find a contractor that would come out and run my water and sewer line even though it was only about 50 feet. so, I made it a living room. After watching many YT videos, I built the wall for the garage door opening. I put in a window and the wall fit perfect! But I did it the hard way hammer and nails. my shoulder wasn't the same for a year, needless to say I went out and bought a framing nailery. I also had to remove 16 windows. I did 85% by myself, my boys and sons-in-laws helped me with a few heavy things, like the subfloor sheeting and the sheeting on the outside. It was hard but satisfying. My proudest accomplishment was converting my sun porch into a pantry, and I replaced the bottom plate all by myself.

My experience has been that doors need to have some overhead covering, even if it is just a deeper overhang just at the doorway. If it was mine I would want a small covered porch. But I understand not wanting to put holes in roof. My husband says I always want to make more work, but has often admitted I did have a good idea. We also redid an old house. All new electric and plumbing, bathes and kitchen so I know how much hard work you are doing.

Wow guys that was a really smart move with the board to hold things in place!!! And so happy that you found that socket thing that had melted! Praise God you can sleep good knowing that these things are taken care of. Blessings

Thank you so much for showing what you are doing. I am enjoying the videos and learning from you. The biggest project that my husband & I did was to take out three 64"x36' windows on one wall and a 64"x44 or 48" window on the adjacent wall. We put in one window where the three windows had been. We also replaced our 8" sliding glass door with French Doors. We are pleased with the ending result. It also saves us in cooling & heating. Our next project is to re-Sheetrock our Service Porch, to paint the walls and trim, install some trim, and to shiplap up on one wall. We are hoping to get some free wood for the shiplap. We also have a Recycling Center where we can get free paint.

Watching this brough an old Folk Song to mind..Part of it went Little boxes on the hillside and they're all made out of ticky tacky. Little boxes, little boxes and they all look just the same .So glad you two are doing what you are doing ! Judy

The contrast with the osb and the trees in the background is just beautiful! Can't wait to see what you guys teach me next time!

Glad to see you got all the sheeting up on the walls to close up your house. I was worried a bear or other critters might decide to move in with you when the old wall was torn out.

It would be great to finish all the outside work so you can insulate the attic and then be indoors when the snow and blow arrive! You are both so talented I envision a line up of people in the building and repairing world hoping you will come work for them!

I would LOVE to have the directions on how to build that thing you're standing on. It looks like it breaks down to which is a nice plus. I could use something like that around here!
