- Today we finish up demo, then build, fix, and replace our living room wall. After that is done we move right onto the rest of the front siding. It all has to go before we can put up our new OSB sheathing. This is a big project but we are getting it done!

What do you do for a living besides UA-cam?
@@DannyH77 We have a small business and work from home, but we keep it private on the channel :)
Out in the Country are you living in the house your working on or staying somewhere else?
Out in the Country hope you all take that aluminum sidling to the recycling place you can get some money back for it and any other metal.
Shay Howard they are living in it
As a former ICC certified building inspector and a plans reviewer, I think you're doing a fantastic job. You really take care to measure twice and cut once and thereby keep a handle on 'mistakes'. I like your work ethic of keeping everything clean as you work as well. Safety wise, I would advise a better scaffolding system. Taking too many chances there, bud. Keep up the good work!
How about termite shirld?
I always get so sad when your videos are over😢 now I have to wait for how long till the next one?!?!? You guys should have millions of subscribers if ya ask me. I Love this channel!!
Thank you so much! Not sure when our next video will be, we just go with the flow :)
The chickens are like “Dude, he’s building us a bigger open air coop!”....lol
I’m always grateful for your descriptions & explanations of what you’re doing on your home & why you’re doing it. 2 X 4’s? Ahh, I see! Makes sense to me 😉 Leaving the new wall solid? Well, that makes sense, too! We’re not just watching you guys sweat, we’re watching you both think thru ALL THE THINGS. As I usually do when I comment here: I applaud your reasoning 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Your house ,you do what you want ,no need to explain your decisions, nice footwork Doug. You guys are awesome, can’t say it enough
Loved seeing Doug's Ninja skills when he caught that board with his foot! I would've fell off the dang ladder and clobbered myself with the drill 😂🤣😂.
Michelle Kovach then turns into a whole Final Destination trilogy all over again 😯
My husband and I have a 3 year plan to buy land and build a house in the country. I was leaning toward a modular or Mobile home until I started watching you guys tear into yours. I didnt realize how cheaply they are made. All the extra work you are putting into your Reno will make all the difference in the long run. I learn a lot watching you. Great job guys!!!
Love that the chickens popped in for a surprise inspection 🤣🤣🐓🐓
That little bottom board was a life saver. I've always heard, work smarter not harder. It's going great! Hurry up windows and door. I'm dying to see MORE!
Love your videos, just wanted to let you know you can save time and material by just using a couple nails driven in level with the bottom plate to set the plywood on. This also allows you to adjust the plywood up or down by bending the nails. I know I know in a perfect world the wall would be perfectly square but framing ain't perfect. Lol
The 2 of you, each for the other, redefine "helpmate." How wonderful, in fact dreamy, it is to see you work together and encourage each other. It gives me hope that there is someone out there for me. 😊
I am so addicted to watching you, Doug and Ashley. Can't wait to see what the house will look like when you're finished. Then you'll have to find other projects because we can't stop watching you guys.
Linda Beard that is so true! I usually watch each video more than once. 😊
Youre good at carpentry skills when you can catch a falling board with your foot ..good job👏
You guys are as solid as you’re making your home. I feel like I’ve been following you for yrs now and still get excited when I see you’ve posted a video. I salute you✌️❤️💕
Doug catching that board with his foot....Ninja 😳
As a professional to you, the way you did it is REALY the only right way to do it. Always work smart, saves your energy and injuries! Also never ever do your cut outs until you are installing your windows and or doors. And always enclose it up unless you and your insurance company have figured out how to make money by creating a " hey come steal anything you want because we left the house wide open for your "CONVENIENCE" !!!!! For you two not to be professionals you are doing GREAT! And in the future if you have any ?s shoot me a line and if I do not know the answer I do know how to find one. My Dad until he retired was a Building Contractor. So I have an inside access to a wealth of information! Happy Building!
The front of the house looks wonderful. I'm certain you both are so happy that all the rotten wood and especially that fire waiting to happen outlet are gone! Great progress! Even if the weather turns cool, you will be on the inside to finish your rooms.
Pretty smart building that "ledge" to help you support the weight of that board!
I know you have your "own show" on UA-cam but you really need your "own show" on HGTV...
Attaching that board at the bottom to hold the big sheets of wood was genius. Working smarter definitely makes it less harder. Awesome progress.
Doug and Ashley by the time you get done remodeling your double-wide, I would feel a lot safer living in yours, than the ones that are being built today.
Lordy, you two are knocking this out!!! I have enjoyed watching this astronomical transformation!
I know it’s not the prettiest, one slab of wood wall - but it DOES look pretty - as in nice, clean, new, and rot-free. And now that everything is all cleaned up, you MUST feel good about the progress.
Way to go ... as always you guys are ROCKIN’ the rebuild. I’m very impressed, but not amazed ... if ANYone could do it, you guys could.
Look forward to the next step.
"...so many staples." The very words spoken by countless teachers before you, removing countless bulletin boards...
....and today I crown you honorary teachers. I think you've earned it. ☺️
It worried me that you would be open to the world once you hit the bedroom wall, but teamwork, no more rot and forward planning saw you through once more. Leaving the openings boarded up until the windows and door come through, looks the very best way forward. No temporary construction to rip out, just final work in place. It was great to see Ashley have a real speaking part as well as doing the hard work of carpenter's assistant and being a mother to two growing children. One good solid wall to see you and them through for many years. I agree about the shutters, more to paint, more to hold the water and a style from another time. You both looked pleased with the progress as well you should.
You’re doing a great job. Renovations are a lot of work and you two have a great relationship to do all this on your own. Be proud of all your hard work. 😊
I love the way you clean up the 'mess' every single day! I never understood why others leave the giant mess that is dangerous at a work site & then have to spend an entire day or more to clean it up!
Wow! My muscles ache just from watching you two work.
It takes a lot of courage to undertake a project with the enormity of this one. And yet, there you are...fearless, in the face of rotted wood, sagging ceiling, and temporary walls!
Amazing...you’re making it happen...and I am so proud of you two! I hope Maverick and Belle are well! 💕🙏🏻💕
Thanks. Yeah they are both doing great :D
Doug and Ashley, you two are amazing, you both work so hard and I love following your journey, good catch Doug with your foot by the way lol, love and blessings to you all from Scotland xx
Blows my mind that you basically had cardboard sheeting on those walls originally . Really like how you are doing it
Loved the chickens inspecting your work! And, as usual, the editing is fun, dare I say entertaining? Hope you don't get tired of reading comments that say you are a hard-working couple. It is inspiring to watch you.
You all are fearless, not afraid to tackle any problem. You are going to have a new house when you are finished. Some of your ideas I didn't quite get at the start but in the end, everything turned out so well. I am still not a big fan of the papered walls but they are growing on me. You make quite the team and treat each other with such respect.
haha, the paper walls are a work in progress.
WOW... You guys your project is really coming along! Looks good! I've gotten to where you guys channel is the first one i check to see if there is a new video of progress!
One of the first ones I watch too.
I know that is not what you guys expected! But just think what you would have gotten if someone else had flipped the house, they would have just covered up what what was wrong!!! And you all would never have know for years to come!!! That electric box is very scary for your family. But; you guys are doing it right and it will last for years! GREAT Job, Guys!!! You and Ashley must be very proud of the job that you two are doing for your beautiful family!!!
Another days work to be proud of Doug and Ashley!! 😀
It's so satisfying to watch you rip out the old and damaged to replace it with lovely new, strong wood. Your nail gun looks good fun. l would use some many extra nails because it's so easy!!! 😊💜
I love hearing more explanations and opinions from Ash!
The last house I remodeled I put small can lights under the eves. It amazing how much more light you have around the house instead of the typical spot lights on the corners or even a front porch light. It floods the front yard! It's also very clean and has a modern feel. Just thought I would suggest since you are at that point. It's looking good. I hate FAKE shutters as well. Glad there gone.
As always I love teh quality of your work. You are essentially completely rebuilding this house, it's got a whole new frame, rafters, insulation, electrical, HVAC, plumbing... I mean it's turning into as solid as a stick built house. But when you finish all this what am I gonna watch??
For all of Ashley's small size, she does so much of the hard work helping with this renovation. Both of you are inspirations. I can't wait for the windows and door to arrive. The place already looks a lot better with just the OSB on it. Good decision on the smaller window, cuts down on heat loss and traffic noise but still lets in light and you need wall space in a living room.
It's amazing to see how cheap that wall sheathing was, looked like thick paper. Looks great now though.
Especially taking into consideration how cold and long the winter is out there. Could not imaging how much heat is lost through such thin walls. The former owners had probably warmed outside more than inside the house.
I am soooooo glad to see OSB sheeting vs. that garbage that was original. And the homes sell for quite a bit considering they make them so cheaply. So glad you are making the improvements! It will be a solid clean home. Nice job!
When my husband was overseas in the military, I converted our 2-car garage into a living room, I wanted it as my kitchen, but I couldn't find a contractor that would come out and run my water and sewer line even though it was only about 50 feet. so, I made it a living room. After watching many YT videos, I built the wall for the garage door opening. I put in a window and the wall fit perfect! But I did it the hard way hammer and nails. my shoulder wasn't the same for a year, needless to say I went out and bought a framing nailery. I also had to remove 16 windows. I did 85% by myself, my boys and sons-in-laws helped me with a few heavy things, like the subfloor sheeting and the sheeting on the outside. It was hard but satisfying. My proudest accomplishment was converting my sun porch into a pantry, and I replaced the bottom plate all by myself.
WOW!
You two I can Tell have a very lovely relationship you can see the respect you have for one another you work so well together I betcha.
I don't know anything about building but I could see why you put the sheathing up before you got your windows and door. You two never cease to amaze me!
Amazing transformation even without the windows and door installed. We are excited for the reveal of the completed front of your lovely home. Every board, nail, project is just one day closer to completion of your vision. Take care, Marc and Paulette, Michigan
Hey you guys putting the osb on there then cutting out doors and windows is just how that mobile home was built to begin with. I worked at a mobile home plant for years we cut out the window and doors with a router instead of a saw . Nice job you guys.
i glory in your drive and abilities but must also add: you have a wonderful helpmeet that has been a+ in my opinion. you better keep her because there are not many more that would be there for you like she has. my hat is off to you little lady........g
This isn't a mobile home this is a 🏠 house! Doug and Ashley this is unbelievable! Can u imagine the value of ur home! What a team what a lovely couple!❤❤❤
Your home is going to be so much warmer and cooler by this update. Wow!
9 people as of today dislike this video...blows my mind. What’s to dislike? If these folks saw an actual video showing a cure for cancer, they would dislike it! Keep up the good work OITC!
You two are amazing! You work so well together. It reminds me of what it says in proverbs....Proverbs 18:22 (KJV Strong's)
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing,
and obtaineth favour of the Lord. You both have certainly found good mates. Congratulations!
You guys continue to amaze me! I think if I had found all that rot, I would have sat down & just cried!
It really is coming along well...as always, can’t wait to see the end results!!
Wow and just think, you almost put this task off. There was a bigger reason for you deciding to do it now, that electrical outlet needed to be discovered. I'm so glad you found that before something terrible happened. HUGS to you all.
Can you imagine if someone else moved in there, that didn't plan on a remo? They would be living with all the icky stuff you guys have encountered. I have to say tho I love watching you guys remodel a room, so much fun!
Good balance Doug - Oh to be young again. Watching you and Ashley working together it's easy to see what a good team you are.
Hi Llda, I was just curious if you had received the picture in the mail? :)
@@diyfferent I am so sorry Belle that I didn't acknowledge receipt of your beautiful picture. What makes someones art so special is the person who is responsible for it and you with your quiet demeanor and honest opinions are that type of person. Stay well and continue to be yourself as you are a very nice young lady. Again, please accept my apology for not getting back to you.
@@Fidg234 It's okay that you didn't get back to us. I just wanted to make sure you got it and it didn't get lost in the mail :) So glad you liked it. Thank you so much!!
Hard work, Discipline, Love and Dedication... That's all what i could see here..
The chickens and the foot save made my day!! 🥰
Can’t say it enough love the way you guys work. You both are so efficient it’s total team work always make it look easy & I’m always impressed by your results
You guys are awesome how you work together. It’s fun to see the chickens🐔 🐔 🐔! Great job!!!!
Yay! Great work! I never miss an "episode". This real-life drama beats the ones on TV by a "country mile"!
Good morning! Love your videos! What a mess, but will be great when you are done! Have you had much rain? You two are the sweetest couple!
Love your smiling faces. You are amazing. How many homes have you two remolded?
We haven't had any real rain in a while. We have done a few homes :)
I loved when the chickens came to visit! I was waiting for them to fly up inside! ! 😛
WOW! Great job. Tried working on our "72" home and found nothing is square. Could be from settling, but frustrating. Glad you posted the videos. You should have your own tv show on how to remodel these homes. The chickens kept it real. Note, if I turn the playback speed up to 1.5, you guys really work fast. Thanks.
I am so proud of all you guys have accomplished!
I see the chicken inspectors gave the work a once over, they seemed to be impressed.🐓🐓
🐥🐥🐣🐣🐤🐤🦅🐔🐔🐔
It's been chick checked.
GREAT JOB !!! You two are a force...And sheeting the whole wall is so much faster then trying to cut out doors and windows before you put up the sheeting....And the waste isn't any different so your way is absolutely the best and far more secure Just love your channel guys
I'm getting excited to see the outside of the house done, then onto Maverick's room
Exciting! I almost feel like I'm a part of your project!
I know it's hard work but my gosh you guys make it look so easy 😂😂😂 always an inspiration! 🥰
Great job guys! I can see why you don't want a big window facing the road. When I saw the car go by it looked like you are closer to the road than I thought. Very hard grueling work! Thanks for sharing!
I love watching your progress. The house is looking great, it must feel good to know you are making sure all is safe.
And its also a bonus that you guys remain debt free, what a blessing that is.
You understand how a huge mortgage takes over your life- what you all have now is a home that is yours and just gets better as you go!
So happy for your family!
❤️❤️❤️
Darla
Your renovation is coming along nicely! I just love watching your videos, so much better than any home renovation show you’d find on DIY Network or HGTV, and I love that you explain your process, makes it a learning experience for the views. Very excited to see the siding color you choose! Just a thought, but have you considered using insulated siding? It may additionally help lower your energy costs especially since you plan on using electric heat. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. You two are very dedicated to your work, I wish there were more hardworking people out there like you two!
You two are such conscientious builders, and so determined! Remodeling your home reminds me of us when we were young, and brings back memories. 💕. Wish your videos went on forever!
It makes my day to watch another of your videos. Already waiting for the next one. :)
I agree with changing the size of the front window.Great job you 2!!!
NICE CATCH WITH THE FOOT!
Nice save with your foot Doug! Another awesome job done :)
More excellent work! I'm looking forward to seeing the living room and kitchen lay outs.
Y’all work so hard and make a great team! Love seeing the process. Congratulations on how far you’ve come!
Had to chuckle to see the chickens doin their chicken business! I’m proud of you guys! Kinda stupid cause I’m not your mom, but hey, good job!
Your home is going to be warmer in the winter. Alot of work but so worth it.
"Meltage", I like the way Ashley thinks. Make sure you use a tamper resistant/weather resistant gfci to replace it.
Your renovation is so much fun to watch. You two are so creative (and smart) about solving the problems and obstacles that come along. Your home will be safe and beautiful.
My experience has been that doors need to have some overhead covering, even if it is just a deeper overhang just at the doorway. If it was mine I would want a small covered porch. But I understand not wanting to put holes in roof. My husband says I always want to make more work, but has often admitted I did have a good idea. We also redid an old house. All new electric and plumbing, bathes and kitchen so I know how much hard work you are doing.
If houses could talk: "Hey, neighbors, I'm being turned into a HOME!!!"
Wow guys that was a really smart move with the board to hold things in place!!! And so happy that you found that socket thing that had melted! Praise God you can sleep good knowing that these things are taken care of. Blessings
Thank you so much for showing what you are doing. I am enjoying the videos and learning from you. The biggest project that my husband & I did was to take out three 64"x36' windows on one wall and a 64"x44 or 48" window on the adjacent wall. We put in one window where the three windows had been. We also replaced our 8" sliding glass door with French Doors. We are pleased with the ending result. It also saves us in cooling & heating. Our next project is to re-Sheetrock our Service Porch, to paint the walls and trim, install some trim, and to shiplap up on one wall. We are hoping to get some free wood for the shiplap. We also have a Recycling Center where we can get free paint.
Awesome, we wish you the best on your project :)
Watching this brough an old Folk Song to mind..Part of it went Little boxes on the hillside and they're all made out of ticky tacky. Little boxes, little boxes and they all look just the same .So glad you two are doing what you are doing ! Judy
The tv show Weeds used part of that song for their intro! Such a fun song! :)
Hey Doug and Ashley, I am so proud of you!!!! You did a great job. This important task is behind you now & I'm sure you feel good about that! Thanks for sharing your renovations. Take care & God Bless.
I can't tell you how proud I am for the two of you doing this together. You have a great team working together. I know your home will be beautiful and safe for your family. God bless.
The contrast with the osb and the trees in the background is just beautiful! Can't wait to see what you guys teach me next time!
Glad to see you got all the sheeting up on the walls to close up your house. I was worried a bear or other critters might decide to move in with you when the old wall was torn out.
You two are doing fantastic. Ashley I love how you go along keeping the debris picked up, so that there are no trip hazards. I love seeing you working together. It's a real labor of love. Thanks for sharing. FlowerLady
Loved the catch of that board! The house looks bigger with that solid wall. You guys are killing it! Good job! 🏠
It would be great to finish all the outside work so you can insulate the attic and then be indoors when the snow and blow arrive! You are both so talented I envision a line up of people in the building and repairing world hoping you will come work for them!
It will be a new house when your done! So much peace of mind and comfort knowing that everything is clean and new and the satisfaction you did it yourselves. You two are amazing. I'm addicted to your channel:) Much admiration for you both. God Bless and hugs and love from OHIO.
By the time you finish you will have entirely rebuilt this house from the ground up! You guys do the job right.
Again...you two are awesome and you seem to work so well together. There is nothing better than being a good team.
I would LOVE to have the directions on how to build that thing you're standing on. It looks like it breaks down to which is a nice plus. I could use something like that around here!
He showed how to build it in one of the early videos at this house
We have a video making it here: ua-cam.com/video/4DF5cbHU0Sw/v-deo.html
Impressive catch with your foot!! But I gotta admit....I was nervous while you were on the platform 😐
Good work you two!!
You two are doing an amazing job, all the hard work will be worth it. Be happy and healthy
