Thanks Daniel, was a pleasure dealing with you yesterday. I highly recommend Portsmouth Coin & Currency if you want to sell coins. Daniel is very knowledgeable and honest. Had a great day, God Bless!
Thanks! It was my pleasure. Good times.
Hey Daniel, I Really enjoy the way you explain things. It is easily understandable and you just get it. A lot of other people on the tube don’t share the same level of explanatory expertise…even thought they think they do… they have an arrogance about it… You don’t. So thanks . This video is what people needed to hear about sending these moderns off to PCGS. It is really a roll of the dice. Which honestly is quite frustrating because I share the same exact thoughts you described in this video. I look at some of these coins that were graded MS 67 or 68 and see all the marks on them and spots and shit and wonder WTF. I send the same coin off that was damn near perfect and must have looked at it 20 billion times under a bright light with a 30x loop and coin microscope… sent it to PCGS and the damn thing came back a MS 65 or 66. That is frustrating and doesn’t make me want to send any more off because some how I think it a favored thing going on over there at the ole PCGS where small time guys like myself as opposed to big time coin dealers and sellers get the upper hand on grading. It’s bullshit. Also I believe that they really favor the Toning of a coin over the strike, luster, and surface preservation. This is why some of those coins you see with the higher grades have a great deep red luster and toning but will also have scratches and spots on it. I don’t like that. If a coins is flawless, it should be deemed that regardless of the damn color or toning it might have. Just my opinion. Sorry for rambling on but this stuff gets me furious because I and many others spent a lot of money sending our greatest coins off hoping for the best only to get a big let down. So I’m glad you said it in this video. Hopefully it will change. But for now my opinion is a coins’ grade is only as good as the person grading the coin.
Thanks again.
Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment, many feel the same way!
And yes I do feel the same way about it to. And I do appreciate your helpful advice on these issues. I will probably send my coins to NGC over PCGS, just because of this knowledgeable info. Thanks again Daniel
My man, I have watched this video twice and I know I have only been collecting for 2 years now, but the term market grading from 3rd party grading companies is absolutely spot on. They do practice this, I believe. Great subject.
Great video. We got so much to learn on coins. But as long as we have you we can get the most out of our coins. Thank You Daniel
Always great. You touch on subjects that nobody else does.
I liked your video on grading Lincoln cent. I'd like for you to do another one if you can on what they take points of for an how they take points off per knick on your coin. Whenever you get a chance would be fine. I value your opinion over any other person on you tube making these videos cause you sound more realistic. Thank you for your concern in this matter.
This is one of the best coin videos out there, I will definitely watch this over and over, I going to share it so I know I can find it again.
Thank you
Daniel, I consider your videos as class time daily. always waiting to attend your next class. Time limits allow me to keep-up-to date with latest videos. Few months back I wanted several rolls of pennies (expecting a variety of circulated coins) every coin roll presently are brand-spanking 2019 pennies. I've got my big bunny ears on.
Thank you!
Excellent points and a great video. Well done Daniel.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge Daniel..
Thanks Daniel. I'm getting educated. Appreciate your help
Lots of great information, thanks again Daniel
Thank you so much. This has to be the best vid you have done. You must have had me in mind. Have a red 41 I found. Might be a good one to send off. Have a 12s that might be a good one to send off. Have a roll of uncirculated 69 s’s that might need reviewing under magnification. Also rolls of dates back to the 30’s to review. I have a big job coming.
Thank you Daniel, awesome info. Thanks to you we all learn from people like you who take time to teach beginner's like me!!
I'm so new to everything that I don't dare to do anything at all for a looong time. LOL Thank you for this video. I'll refer to it before I do anything stupid. :)
Thanks I am applying this lesson to the 40 w quarters I have to help determine which if any to send for grading!
Thank you Daniel I'm getting ready to send some coins to pcgs I have been looking on here.i learn alot from you.
Thanks for the video Daniel. I can see how it can be frustrating for us newbie's to look at coins to see if it should be graded or not. One thing that I have heard multiple times in multiple videos is that people break open their submissions and resend them back for grading in hopes of a higher grade. (this could be from any of the other companies) I think this dilutes the "electronic" archives for these coins but it is never talked about....or maybe is considered Taboo in the coin community. Lastly, I'm not sure if PCGS compares a submission to another of the same MS value but it would be nice to know if they do or just something to research I guess. Cheers & thanks again.
Good point! I'd like to know also. and ... You may or may not be interested in my reply to Samuel I. above.
I don't know the exact details on how PCGS grades, but I bet it's not exactly as they claim publicly.
I truly believe its not an even playing field when it comes to these top pop graded coins. Gotta be big to get big, or lucky as sin and chosen to be an example as proof of equality. This is why at least for the mechanical, hard fact detail specific aspects of condition, there is no reason this should not now be done by computer. THEN get a human grade opinion of eye appeal, overall grade by an experienced company you trust. Then coins can be traded blind on the 2 numbers. It would also help a lot evaluating different damaged coins which can be vastly different in condition but only carry a details label so still leaving nearly all valuation left up to a biased party. I just dont know how this hasnt become a thing yet. I dont see the downside or why anyone would choose the current methods unless knowing a piece is overgraded. Anyways, I feel your pain there Dan. Main reason I dont submit hardly any moderns even when overly conservative to judging a piece has a super high grade. Great video here. Really like these type and should be required viewing...lol...thank you Dan!!!
Thank you
Thank you very much Daniel so many pennies so many decisions to wish penny I sent
Gracias SR DANIEL por la opinión de compartir los grados de compañías j son más profesional 👍
There goes my hope to find something good in bank roll hunting lol ,although thanks again Daniel for the lessons what to do or not to do and what to look for 👊

🌄 Hey Daniel who can I hold responsible for my neck back, and eye strains, the u.s mint ? ¿ ? j.k I thought you needed a little comic relief.. Please don't take me seriously, I think you're doing a great job, keep up the GREAT work my brother 💸✌💰🍻🏛🎶🎸🌟🤘🎵🌈⛥😎✨

I wholeheartedly agree 🖒😉✨
Great information again.I guess thats why the saying goes.Buy the coin not the holder because the 1962 plain was marked up and the t in Liberty was all jacked up.
No idea how it graded a 67+
1962 is the GREATEST YEAR of mankind. 🙌 Recently, I purchased a full set of 1962, NGC, Proofs, all graded PF69. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any with a seventy grade.
Very honest review. Thanks.
I've got a 1995 Lincoln cent MS 68 that's saved me money more than once. It's Mark free, Sharp strike, shoulder is perfect, what stands out about it is the details in the hair. I may resubmit it to try to get a higher grade. I paid $38 for it.
Muy bueno video 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾😀
Have you asked the grading services why a coin that is submitted gets a lower grade when you think it should be a higher grade ? I have heard that they are going to start using better methods for fair grading have you ?
No, all you can talk to is customer service and they don't have a clue about grading. I haven't heard anything about them using better methods.
Sorry Daniel I'm so far behind in my views. Trying so hard to catch up. August is very
tough for me. I have so many Dr's. appt. and a son who is probably going to have surgery
on his upper spine. I also have to have the usual procedures done and eye surgery. My
fault on that I let it go and now it's scary. Mostly I'm worried about my son. I never think
about having coins graded. Too many other things to keep my mind crazy.
Have a great weekend. All the Best to you. Very good video. ; D
Sorry to hear but no biggie. I mean, it's not really fair since so many come out in a day. Just watch one when you can. Thanks!!!
@@CoinHELPu Will try to and Thanks!!!
@@ShirlBussman I don't mean you have to but when you can. I said a prayer for you and your son. My daughter had simple tonsil surgery and it tore me up, so I feel for you.
@@CoinHELPu Thank you so much, Daniel. Also my computer was hacked.
What next? I can't get into my email account. ;-(
Thanks Daniel
Daniel, I KNOW you have no control over which ad shows up on your videos but I think it strange that the last 4-5 videos first video is a commercial for BEER. Is there a link? LOL
LOL. Yeah mo control.
♻️⛈️ Enjoy your show ♻️ thanks for the update information ♻️
Hi Daniel, I had a quick quest not related to this video. I recently bought some cull Peace Silver Dollars for the silver content from APMEX, I was just wanting to know what the acceptable tolerances for a +/- weight would be for these. I'm pretty sure these are real, but it would be helpful to know if I ever decided to buy dollars in this condition off eBay.
Thank you,
Claude
I don't know exactly but they can vary, weight is one small aspect of counterfeit detection you need to watch my videos on fakes.
@@CoinHELPu Thank you, I will do so when I get home from a Doctor's appointment.
a good video always leads to the next question: what about errors and variety coins. i was CRHing last week and found a tube of coins with the exact same die chip in the same place...where can i look to see if this error or variety is already on the books...i think i know the answer but i'm old enough (and new enough at variety hunting) that i don't want to spend a lot of time looking in the wrong place...i may not have that much time LOL!!!!
Die chips are not varieties that are listed, too common and don't add and value.
Thanks 😊
I was wondering if you could make a video on how Lincoln cents tone out to there complete color an are done toning. Reason is cause I've watched coins tone many different ways many different times. After you take a cent out of a bank roll it'll usually turn fire red with in an hour of taking it out. The toning process is weired all I'm saying. Didn't know if you knew the answer to this or not
Toning for copper is redux and called oxidation where the coin alloy reacts to different environmental factors and elements. It is not predictable so I can't say all the colors a coin tones because of this.
@@CoinHELPu makes perfect sense to. Thanks for your feedback daniel
I just bought some pennies in original mint cellos. One coin (1999-D) was damaged. The copper color is gone from about 20% of the surface (the rest is BU red), with I guess zinc showing, and a small chunk of the edge was scraped off, revealing the zinc underneath. That all happened before it was placed in the mint cello. Is that considered an error coin?
Sounds like damage.
@@CoinHELPu Either way it looks pretty neat and is going into the album
Confusing to you? Think of how it's like for us. Could there be some shadyness of the slabbers? Maybe that "Shadow Inc" company which did the Iowa Caucus app did the optical scanning for PCGS.
im a little far away in az whats ur website for your store so i can online shop?
portsmouthcoinshop.com I also have much more inventory. Hard to keep the store stocked, orders are always coming. Thanks!

Yes I am a new person to grading however I have been collecting over 40 years. I cracked out a proof 70 DCAM and sent it to get graded with some junk and it come back proof 66. I have a problem with that. I am a gold member and I called to get full steps put on that coin and offered to pay for the change. 3 phone calls! Did not get. The commity needs work.
All proof are full steps, they don't put that on the labels because of that, and it doesn't add value to a proof.
How much does pcgs charge? Does it depend on the value of the coin?
Shipping charges there and back. $10 handling fee per order. Extra $15 for variety arbitration if you have a variety. Then the actual grading fee is for 1965 to date coins non gold is $16 value to $300. If you think it is better than $300 its $35. $65 if you don't want to wait 2 months for your coins to come back.
So in total $44 for shipping there and back plus $45 on the cheap end for one coin. $89
PCGS has a fee schedule on their website. Too much to list here.
What the picture doesn't show is the luster. The grade can still be high with the marks if it has the luster they are looking for.
Sorry but you're mistaken, coins can have all the greatest luster but if they're marked up then they will be low MS grades. Luster is a means to gage MS or UNC not if a coin is MS65 versus MS66.
@@CoinHELPu look at the high grade examples on pcgs. They are marked up.
@@howardnunn7373 you're kidding? What do you think I do for a living? I look at all high grade coins, always pricing and grading and submitting coins. What you're over looking is the lower grades have more marks but the same luster.
@@CoinHELPu I would agree but in the pictures they show some of the ms 66 have less marks than the 67s but not the same color.
@@howardnunn7373 You're looking at 2D images and under different exposures and photography lighting and color is not luster. You can't even see the true luster of a coin using 2D images so you're not doing it right. I look at actual coins graded MS60 to MS68 all day long. More marks, lower grade and there's plenty of examples of dark toned coins in high grade as well. You can't even see the marks truly using images. Trust me, I make my living doing this so that means something when I see coins inhand.
It's all about money so if you own coins that are not as good as ones coming in what are you to do ?
Question is worded as a statement. If you want to ask be clear and concise.
@@CoinHELPu yes I was degrading, I was listening to you talking about how that some of the grading companies you weren't sure you know what they're doing and all that well I was just freezing that I heard you say something I said yeah well if you own the car and you know speaking about the grading company well are you going to grade anything higher than yours no cuz you want your money out of it before anything happens right that's what I was saying but anyway that's all b-sides a boy and I know I got caught up listening to you so I thought you were alive but anyway go to dscarbro on eBay is where there are two coins for sale right do me a favor and ler know what you think about those two the 1919 and the 1965 DDR SMS would you please
Please reply with proper grammar and punctuation.
Interesting
Does pcgs differentiate between circulating coins and ones with the uncirculated finish from the uncirculated mint sets? (Not talking about the enhanced uncirculated sets or proof sets, just the regular uncirculated mint sets)
I was told that nicks and scratches that considered to happen during coins clashing together that happens pre-struck aren't counted against the grade. Now how they determine it happened before struck is beyond me.
A contact mark on a plachet that is on the planchet then struck by the dies, looks different than marks on a coin after it was struck.
Daniel, I still think the TPG Services are stretching their standards. Most of those so called 67 I would consider at most 66, and a few just 65. The problem I have when trying to find a nice Lincoln Cent in MS65, is that many of those in slabs would not make my MS64, and sometimes MS63 based on the grading rules written on the internet. I tend to agree that graders at TPGer's probably are rushing through, and just not seeing just how many marks and abrasions are on the coin from the minting, and handling process before going to a bank.
As You and so many others I have listened to over the years say, "Do not buy the holder, buy the coin." if you are looking at a slabbed coin which you think is over graded, then do not purchase it. Stick to you standards, which I hope are based on the written standards of the grading system. In other words, if you really love the coin in that slab, then go ahead and purchase it, otherwise, keep looking.
Hey Daniel we enjoy watching your channel and appreciate the knowledge you pass on. I have a coin in my possession that I'm not really sure about. Do you have an email I can contact you where I could send you a few pics of the coin
Yeah I know what you mean Daniel I have a 1897 English penny that is amazing I compared it to a 66+ example and it’s better than the 66+ and it got a 64+RD I cracked it out and resubmitted it and it’s now a 65RB it’s a funny one if I keep resubmitting it and it gets a 67 or 68 like I think then it’s worth a lot of money
I think when they grading NGCcoin’s and they tell you what the grades are and you read what they say on the details when you get the 67 68 69 70 need to be much more detailed and their descriptions of what makes those grades. It needs to needs to be upgraded plane and simple for everybody to understand so we’re all working from the same book or seen page however you wanna put it.
If your name is Bowers you would get better grading results! It's to bad that it is this way. The little guy usually takes the hits, Thanks for your opinion and sharing.
I do it all the time check and recheck and ask ?s that never get answered
I have 1983-d red and brown it's really gorgeous coins I don't know how much it cost.
Face value unless it is graded MS67 or better
What should my Lincoln 1 cent weight be
But you a 2024 Red book price guide.
What timing I needed just that info . Thanks Dan. You Da man.
Unfortunately, Daniel is dead right about PCGS slabs bringing more money at auctions! UNFORTUNATE because they're no better (and in my opinion frequently worse) at grading than ANACS or NGC. In fact, also -- just my experience -- PCGS cannot give the same grade to the same coin on consecutive submissions. Maybe nobody can ...but what is with this insane preoccupation with PCGS graded coins?
I don't have a problem paying the same for a PCGS vs. an NGC coin IF it's a superior coin. I think maybe twenty years from now, there will be finer grade divisions and the old holders may be meaningless. You'll have to get the coin regraded anyway. So long-term, it doesn't matter what holder the coin is in. I have superior IGC coins that I KNOW I'll have to get regraded in the future. I took that into account when buying them. Even the major dealers won't buy back ICG coins.
2019 - W pcgs quarter MS67 from rolls.3 people are to look at each coin. I have better looking 65's than the coin you show.Like it or not market manipulation is the result.Plus or star grades are not on the Sheldon scale neither is CAC. Reconsideration at full price is unethical at the least.Mailing costs are very high. Who benefits the most grading companies or collectors.
Thanks for your videos sir. Ive got some absolutely flawless coins ive been itching to get graded but it scares me because i dont really have the cash to spare if they deem it a stinker.
I dont know much of nothing about coins but I have heard people say grading companies are frauds and dont know what they are doing half the time
Why does people put so much importance in someone's opinion these grading companies are ruining coin collecting
I picked up a raw 1963 proof red for 1$. It looks flawless, but I know it would probably only grade 65,not worth submitting.Still a nice grab for a buck
It's a common coin but it's sure worth more than $1.
Hi
How r u
How could sent u photos coins for your opinion
You use the coinhelpu community.
I’ve been collecting coins since I was in the fourth grade and I started out with just the penny set and I still working on them I almost have a complete from 1909 up to today’s date 65 and that’s taking a lifetime I’m almost 60 years old today I started sending pennies and to get them graded and I sent in a 1909 as horizontal and I could count the blemishes and dings on the coin there were four total with two blemishes on the back and it came back in 64+ which I won hundred percent disagree I 66 to me or better so I have to agree with you 100% I actually saw it it would be done by like counting how many Nixon on the coin literally so if it had like one neck on it it would be a 69 if it had to be a 68 if it had one blemish in a couple of nicks it would be a 67 for example so I really don’t know how the grading the pennies but the pennies really are a serious issue to send any of them in to any of them because when you look at the pictures of the ones you were showing like the 67‘s I completely agree with you they don’t look better than anything over 65 and some of them that you were showing we’re definitely less than that I don’t even see a 64 maybe 63 there were so many nicks and scratches on the Coin so I think that’s a huge issue with the penny specifically and even when the color red to red brown
Who owns stock in PCGS?
If I was rich i would love to buy some of these coins, Crack them out and resubmit them just to see how they grade. I think the results would be interesting.
That's my whole point ...it would probably be way more interesting than you'd like it to be. When I attended a coin grading seminar by PCGS I brought with me 3 different PCGS slabbed coins -- each graded MS67 and higher ...all 3 coins with their grades blacked out. I asked the PCGS seminar teachers to please grade them. They each did so -- but none could match the grades they had already been given by their own company! And one guy missed the grade by MORE than a full grade on all three of them! So personally, I wouldn't pay 2c extra for a PCGS slabbed coin. It has to be the world's biggest con job.
@@TheAvenstar great comment an that's what I suspected too. I haven't had any graded but I can definitely see some bull hog going on here. No fourth color, just the three in the video and PCGS and NCG does claim to use committee grading.
PCGS has a grading video. I suggest you watch it. Very interesting

Does pcgs differentiate between circulating coins and ones with the uncirculated finish from the uncirculated mint sets? (Not talking about the enhanced uncirculated sets or proof sets, just the regular uncirculated mint sets)
Mint sets before 2005 are all uncirculated and business strike coins, no difference in finish.
