  • Managed to get my hands on one of the first 2023 Saltigas in the states! This reel is amazing: Fully saltwater sealed indestructible design, lightest salt rated reel I've ever held, beautiful looks, and the best drag sound I've ever heard in a 4000 size reel. Caught a massive hybrid stripe on it for its first fish!
    Thanks for watching, Please subscribe!

    The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!

    Finally, I just bought mine during black friday 11/24/2023. $150 discount. I notice the drag knob is kind of made from this cheap plastic for a reel this expensive.

      Oh I hadn't even noticed on mine! If it makes you feel better, I also have the Shimano Stella Sw and the drag knob on that is much more obviously plastic.

      That's awesome man! I'm located in Jackson, Mississippi. And don't worry, they'll get bigger. For the first few years I caught these they were all around 3-5lbs, but that class of fish has had time to grow so now we are averaging 9-10lbers. Hybrids don't occur naturally anywhere, they are stocked by game and fish across the country so the ones you are catching are just a year or two off getting this big! When they were 3-5lbs we would catch 6-20 a day every time, but as they've gotten older and fish have been kept, there's not a whole lot left, but the ones that are are massive! They just stocked my rez with small ones again this year so the cycle will continue!

      @@AikenAngling ohh thats awesome! I knew the hybrids around here were stocked. With as many as you catch I thought for sure it was occuring naturally but aparently not! Thats awesome! For that short of a rod I would go with the 4000 size since it’s the smallest. Even the 4000 holds more line than the normal 5k size reels. I’m pretty sure my 4k holds 300 yards of 20lb braid

      @AikenAngling  Рік тому +1

      Hey man, Which stella do you want me to compare it to? I have both the 2020 Saltwater stella and the 2022 Stell FJ, the FJ is for lighter freshwater applications and the salt one is a solid salt-proof work horse, but to make it easy, I prefer this new saltiga to both. It's heavier than the Stella FJ, but it should be since its a salt reel, but its much lighter than the salt stella. Amazing drag on all three, but I think the Saltiga has my favorite. The only thing I like more about the stella FJ is it lays line better than any other reel I've owned. But this saltiga casts just as far, holds more line, and is much more durable. All 3 are fantastic reels, really just comes down to personal preference/ target species/ and location. Happy to answer any questions about all three.

The stella is a good bit heavier than the new saltiga and feels a little less high-quality, but they are both amazing. Cant go wrong with either for salt water fishing. The Saltiga is also a bit smaller but holds more line in the same sizes. Neither will let you down. They are both so good I would just pick whichever you think looks better honestly.
