I lived in Korea for 2 years from 2008 to 2010. There is a 6th sense Koreans call Nunchi. Professor Kim surely has this gift to be able to see that man for what he truly is. Much respect for Professor Kim for standing with the victims and the work he has done to bring that evil man to justice. He's a hero indeed!

You know, throughout my life I've heard countless stories about awful things happening all around the world. And I usually just accepted that "well, some people are awful" and moved on with a heavy heart. But it takes a special kind of person to be the first to resist something this big and evil.
This man encountered a cult that nobody had resisted openly at that time and instead of distancing himself to seek safety, he spent 27 years facing against it. He did this not for money or any personal gain, yet he still dedicated his life to abolish something that hurt others. I find it truly beautiful that there are people on this Earth that can stand up for others in this way, despite how short our lifespans are. And despite how divided we can be, I hope all of us can get inspired by his journey and get together to put a stop to the nightmares he described.
P.S I love how calm and soft his voice is, it's really telling of his personality but it's also devastating that he can talk about such horrors as if he's accustomed to them. Humanity truly is cruel. I pray that the victims can find peace.

I understand what this gentleman is saying, and I'm very thankful for his courage to talk about this openly. However, cult behaviour is more complex than just being too arrogant to leave it. Cult behaviour has nothing to do with being smart; it has to do with a more emotional and spiritual aspect. Cult leaders are manipulators and psychopaths and tend to be very good at pinpointing people's vulnerabilities and using them to their own benefit. They create a codependent relationship in which they use fear and control over their followers.

I feel that some of his explanations are too simplistic. It's not just pride & arrogance. It's because people are social animals. They long for a community to belong to & fear of being abandoned. Many/most people have mental/psychological issues, which causes them to need something to feel needed & have some purpose in a community. Some people (cult leaders) are very good at exploiting these psychological vulnerabilities by creating a community and target vulnerable people to join them. They use tactics to draw these people in, and slowly get them to invest (both time & money) in the community. And the fallacy of sunk costs makes it hard for people to walk away from investments they have made. And the more they invest into this community that is welcoming them, they more difficult it becomes to walk away. It's a cycle of psychological capture, a form of social engineering.

    • @moon_0207
      @moon_0207 6 місяців тому +35

I wouldn't say that most of these people have psychological issues. A normal person can very well fall into a cult very easily. They could just feel a little lonely in life, they've just moved to a new place and are wanting to find friends, they're dealing with a loss of a loved one...etc. That's a very big misconception that most have mental/psychological issues. Most are just regular people.

True. This is how i felt when church members gathered together. They love the atmosphere of community there and detest anyone saying anything bad against the community. They will instead ignore all the red flags and retaliate against the victims.
This is why i stay far away from churches even though i spent most of my childhood in methodist schools.

One fine day i was taking seoul subway to my office..one old lady was standing near my seat... my office is on next stop so i gave her seat..she was like what a pretty girl you are so kind and so on..then got my number and told she also working near my office...we met for a lunch she was too kind we became really close...one day she introduced young lady to me...she was pretty and kind..we used to go for dinner and cafe...she told I am so interested in psychology personality test and stuff let's meet in a cafe weekly once and do like self improvement test...i was interested too...but after some days...she confessed to me that she and that grandma that i met in train is from shincheonji(one of the cult religion in korea) but i never knew how serious is this issue..i was like so what..that doesn't matter to me unless you compul me to follow something...but that grandma started acting weird she was like follow whatever that young lady tell you...that would be really helpful for your life...if you follow her activities you can change into a real korea( i was like whattttt???) I realized it's something weird....one day that young sister called me for a dinner...and suddenly taken out her laptop for bible seminar that i never wanted....she even wanted my sign...okay...told my other normal friends and colleagues about this...they were like..block them immediately...it's a dangerous cult religion stop meeting them...that's how i stepped out of this nonsense...They target kind and lonely people..even the foreigners..cause we could be easy target..we don't have friends are family here..so we move easily...it's creepy how people plan all these...in modern days they start like cafe meeting and stuff..wonder why would this young and good-looking people give up on their life and go behind cult...

That sounds really similar to an experience I had. I was walking to get some coffee and someone spoke to me in Korean asking if I wanted to fill out a survey to help build a “goal setting” app. I answered some basic questions then he asked me if I would be willing to answer some more detailed questions later that week at a cafe. Figured it was a good opportunity to practice Korean so agreed. I told this story to my friend and she’s like “be super careful, this sounds a lot like a cult. Don’t give him your phone number”. I decided to meet with him anyway and he started asking about my personal goals and psychological questions out of some weird questionnaire like thing. He seemed kinda nervous the entire time too. The entire thing was really awkward and there was a certain point I thought “I should get outa here” so I told him I was uncomfortable, bailed, then immediately blocked him on Kakaotalk. I was never 100% sure if I acted too rashly… whether he was just a regular person. But reading your story it sounds like I made the right choice. Glad you got out of it too.

I go do my Laundry at 6AM when the laundromat automatic doors open electronically. The reason being is there are no homeless beggars and less people except occasional senior citizens washing. Anyways I was chilling in the bench seats and around 7am a pair of what I think are Jehovas witnesses show up a young lady and an older lady. They tried to engage me and was read a quick scripture. I told them I only listen to sermons on podcasts and don't really impose my beliefs onto others. I got some creepy vibes off them. I could see how a weak minded person gets pulled into cults, thankfully I am conscious enough to read sales pitches.

He doesn't, they send themselves to Hell. They have free will, they choose to sin. Lovers of themselves.

Unfortunately, the cult leader built a massive, influential infrastructure around his destructive ideologies.
And there are likely people who are still trapped, consciously or unconsciously, in that belief system.
It will take years before those misguided ideas lose traction and become less influential. Let's hope that these lessons help more people become better aware when committing to ideology.

Asian boss is one my favorite channel in UA-cam for interesting topics but if this channel is seriously going to want to dig in to have a deeper investigation on this topic, really hope that Asian boss could provide the views or maybe investigate on both side of stories, instead of just providing interview based just on one side, so to able to provide a more objective information to viewers.
If you really know the trial, it is an such an unfair trial because till now, there's not even a single solid evidence ever proving the defendant is guilty of the charges despite "many so called real victims came out" and the persons in-charge of the investigation didn't follow the proper procedure of investigation process. This is such an unfair act committed against human rights and it's happening in such a modern developed country towards its own citizens. Previously there's also public south Korea TV station being sued for the defamation for publishing fake news about the said organization and the said organization won the case but not many know about this.
Many might being misled because of Netflix "so called real documentary" or the current news spreading online and public media. Well this might be a controversial stand regarding who are actually the right ones and who are actually spreading the fake news. So, let God judges which side is right or wrong. There's no intention of offence or debating here.
Just hope Asian boss or anyone who really wants to know the truth about this case, at least dig in to stories from both sides without bias or media influence, able to distinguish the information and not just blindly accepting all the information published by media. The said organization had mass gathering protest about the unfair trial and worldwide prayers gathering in Yeoido Park, South Korea previously.
People who are interested can also join in for petition, not to debate over who is right and wrong but just to petition for a fair trial and proper investigation process regarding the case.
    Cheers 🙏.

yes unfortunately there are many people in Christianity who are hypocrites and spread false information.
It’s even mentioned in the Bible
Jesus himself wasn’t a big fan of religion. Religion is a man made thing.
Even those who honestly describe themselves as ‘religious’ do not in the least act up to it, and so they presumably mean something quite different by ‘religious.’”
“true religion is a devotion to God, demonstrated by love and compassion for fellowmen, coupled with unworldliness”
      Is Christianity a cult: no
Are there people who abuse Christianity to use it for their benefit: of course.
“Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.[a] 3 So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but don’t follow their example. For they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden.”

It would be nice if AsianBoss could shed light on the other side of the situation as well. So far, it's only been a one-sided arch. From what I've seen and heard, there have been many protests from JMS side about this trial and that even the evidence shown in the Netflix is fabricated. That's a big claim for them to state. Why are people still supporting him when there's so much negative press and accusations against him? Would love an in-depth interview of what the other side says.

Why do I see some videos about America and zero about the Palestine and Israeli conflict. Is it not your goal to make bridge between the East and West ? How would you do that if many Koreans have no knowledge about one of the basic problems between East and West ?
