4:44 fun fact: in Taiwan, someone with a knife tried to mug a person and was stopped by a regular citizen. When asked about why he stepped in, the citizen said "it's what Himmel the Hero would've done"
Dude is a real one. I saw his friend posted about his thought process before he was going to be recognized. He said he wanted to show the world that anime watchers arent the degenerates people think they are. He also purposely wore a monster hunter haori that day to make the statement about gamers too
That's right, he struggled to subdue the man wielding a knife on the train. He was badly injured in the face and, in an interview with the media, he said those words. In this episode, it was shown that things you don't know can't be made real even with magic, but conversely, that things you have seen before have the potential to be recreated. And through Himmel, we learned what a hero is. Then, I guess it's possible us. Just like him in Taiwan.
Midway through the series, Himmel will become their favourite character from this show. It happened with me. It happened with everyone. He's so beautifully written, an ideal man.
@@Ali-qy1nj I like all the characters, but I like Frieren the most. She is somehow so relatable to me. But Himmel is truly perfect in so many aspects. We all can just hope for the future.
4:27 - Frieren making sure Heiter doesn't repeat the same mistake that she made. She regretted not having spent as much time with Himmel as she wanted to, but only realized that after Himmel had already passed. Now she's making sure Heiter spends as much time with Fern as he can before he passes.
Apparently over in Asia a man stopped some crazy dude who had a knife on a subway train. When asked why he interceded instead of waiting for the police or trying to run away he said, "It's what Himmel the Hero would have done."
Delicious in Dungeon / Dungeon Meshi is also a good fantasy series almost similar to this but with more food and comedy. It's also released this year. Maybe you could add it to your watch list.
Ewig was the mage who originally wrote the grimoires Frieren was working on. The name is again german and means "eternal" in reference of him being on the search of immortality.
fern is the cutest in the first couple episodes, i was so sad when she grew up so fast, guess that was the idea for the audience to feel like frieren with everyone around her getting old too quickly for her
Ewig was mentioned briefly when heiter gave the task of deciphering the book. It’s the author of the thing she’s deciphering. What he means is if the book had an immortality spell the author would have used it thus it he would hav been alive
I love how the show represents Frieren reminiscing over her time with Himmel, Heiter and the dwarf(forgive me I forgot name). I also loved how she is shown to finally understand what that time really meant by going off on another adventure
It does take a few episodes to get rid of the feeling of "Is there any point to any of this?" to realize that the jouney is the point hence Beyond journey's end. Although the actual title of the series does hold a really nice "secret"
There is a yearly survey in Japan asking elementary school children who they admire most. Usually their mom is the #1 answer. When I last saw the survey "Frieren" was #8
Frieten is like bacon for UA-cam channels, making reactions to this show will ensure following grow even months after the show ended. You got me, subscribed.
The 2nd bottle poured on the grave is the one which Heiter had when he met Fern. Since that day he stopped drinking. The show is full with a lot of small details which are either relevant in next episodes or just make the journey more colorful. But you already know this because you are ahead in Patreon.
Although it happened quickly, take note of that small circle Frieren drew in the sand around Fern. Lots of little things that seem random, may have lasting effects in later episodes.
Fern doesn't quite understand Frieren yet. She still thinks Frieren is interested in the spells for their own sake. But she's actually collecting these little folksy spells to please other people, or to help them. It's what Frieren means when she says that she's only "somewhat" interested in magic itself. Essentially, magic is how she expresses her feelings, because she's so bad at expressing them verbally.
Excellent reactions if a bit short. After two you now realize that the characters of Himmel and Frieren are color coded. Himmel being Heaven is coded Blue as is the sky above us, and the Sea is Blue which surrounds us. Frieren being frozen is coded White (even though her hair is ashen off White). The White clouds and the White surf break across the bow of all that Blue. The violent energy of all the White Purity breaking the calm and peaceful Blue. I am told by an expert on Japanese mythology that there is considerable coding with Blue and White. This same device exists in "Iroduku: The World in Colors" and "The Aquatope on White Sand".
I have never watched frieren, I just like watching you guys so I decided to watch the frieren reactions. But even from 10minute snippets from your vids I'm already sniffling... seems I'll have to watch frieren for myself 😅
This show is as close to perfect as it is possible for an anime to get. Art style, animation quality, soundtrack, characterisation, the maturity of the writing -- all top tier. Even the fight scenes, when you get to them, are impressive. Not everyone is going to like the tone and themes of the show, of course. And that's okay. No story has ever had universal appeal, and Frieren is no different in that regards. But in terms of pure craft, I don't know that there has ever been a better anime.
I was so upset when Frieren didnt even get recognition in anime award 2024 by crunchyroll. Like wtf? I like jjk, but to put Jjk above All animes that came at the same year is wild. Especially Frieren & Vinland Saga S2. Those 2 is peak anime of 2024. furthermore it was only 5 episodes of hidden inventory that nominated & won the award. Smh
the 1st 4 ep were released at once for streaming. (Think also as a movie?) so watching to ep4 is like the setup. incase you were wondering the hard ends in ep1 etc
The tragedy of Himmel really does get harder as time goes on. He left all those statues so she wouldn't be alone, or forget his face. He never married, even if he could have had anyone he wanted. He knew who he loved, and he knew it wasnt fair on her, but he could never have loved another. So he held it, as best he could, so it wouldnt hurt her. He didnt want to be her regret.
So we see Frieren pour out 2 bottles at Heiters grave, not just one. I think shes pouring a second one out since Himmel isnt alive to pour one out for him
Yes, Frieren's sense of time is wack, even we as the watchers felt that with how fast the time went by lol fortunately it gets better now that she's with Fern, since she's not just spending her own time now 😊
Every time there’s a flashback with Himmel or someone says “That’s what Himmel the Hero would do”: 😭😭😭 I swear your fondness of Himmel will just grow with the chapters. It’s a beautiful journey.
Himmel the "hero"! A better translation would be "Himmel the brave" as 勇者 Yushaa literally means "person of courage". Sometimes all it takes is courage to leave the right impression in the world.
I was hoping for you to react to Fire Force or The Eminence in Shadow next but THIS is also good if not even better. You gonna love this show so much, it`s so heartwarming. Also, as a fellow German, it`s always funny to see people from other countries trying to pronounce german words, just hilarious! 🤣😂😂 And yes, all names in Frieren are based on german words. Frieren for example means freezing, Fern meens far away and Himmel means sky. And that`s just naming a few.
Did you know that Viggo broke his toe... Sorry, wrong fandom. While it's fun to tell the story of the knife attack guy, the real lesson is that we shouldn't stop with one anecdote of following Himmel's example. As Frieren would know, the story doesn't stop there
My head canon (with 0 proof, facts nor knowing about the manga), is that heitter was constantly using some kind of healing ok himself to be able to get as much time as he could, and when frieren said she would finish sooner, he just stopped to make her unconsciously worry and work slowly (and make fern actually try harder). And yes, I'm base on only the fact that he just collapse when frieren said that, without any kind of hint beforehand
"It took longer than i would've liked." Coming from someone who lives for 1000s for years is such a line. Finding that flower took too long for someone who has all the time in the world.

This is the perfect moment to share one of my favourite Frieren videos ever. The dialogue and music makes me well up every time! ua-cam.com/video/lNJ_tede1Cg/v-deo.html
11:10 Don't worry. I'm a 32-year-old man and I'm always crying when I watch Frieren. Especially this moment, where she's silently talking to Himmel like an old friend and so lovingly caresses the flowers that he wanted to share with her. That shot of her hand tracing the petals so delicately always amazes me in how clearly it conveys the weight of emotions NOT displayed on her face.
Once again, sage Ewig was called. Although he does not appear in the story, the name of this sage is mentioned from time to time, with a role similar to myths from ancient times. Ewig's epic begins in the mythical era - the era that is said to be when the goddess of creation still remained on earth with humans, and also the era in which Serie lived.
