Great video, I need to stop comparing myself to others. I'm 68 years old and I'm just learning, my fingers aren't what they used to be but I love the guitar so I'm going to keep at it. I think it takes me a bit longer to learn than someone who is younger, but what a joy when my practicing pays off and the song I'm working on sounds good to me. I've done several of your lessons, you are an excellent teacher, thank you!

Great reminder, James. My bugaboo has been comparing myself now at age 78 with the "way it was" when I was much younger and performing a bit. Life intervened and the guitar lived in the case for a LONG time. I picked it back up 6 or 7 years ago and mostly really have fun with it, but...
Thanks for all you do. Your instructional videos have been encouraging and very helpful

This is a great video, we see tutorials alluding to these point but being dragged out and called right out here is great.
I started learning guitar late at 58 I am 63 now.
I didn’t follow any of your suggestions for failure today.
Consistent practice was my best friend practicing.
Your Nirvana lesson Come As You Are turned me into an actual guitar player. 👍🏻👍🏻

2 exercises to achieve failure at step #1 A) Changes by Phil Ochs B) Diamonds and Rust ala Joan Baez live and for extra credit C) Anji by Paul Simon. All these can be found on UA-cam . Watch attentively and you can master step #1 before you buy your first guitar .

Hahahaha😂 you've just done a "SCREWTAPE LETTERS" for guitar. I needed that laugh thank you. I learned how to play 30 years ago and more. I'm now in my fifties, but there's always something new to learn. I'm not an expert by any measure, but I appreciate your advice. Thank you again for the laugh. 😊

even if i did not be alike, even if guitar never crossed my path, i would have wished to still be sent this video. it is such a "pain" listening to your explanation, such a pain, so sweet, that one can learn all sorts about life in general, guitar or not is not question, creatively failing at any thing in life e.g. such as close relationships, failing in dignity is great. well we need to start something or let it happen we become part of something to celebrate the failing at it later on. Happy Easter Monday 😂

I practice every day. Some days I sound okay and some days it's like I've forgotten everything I learned. But I won't back down, I'll stand my ground and I'll get there some day. Forget the singing though---I can't carry a tune in a bucket.

Thow one is in a case the other is right next to me and it gets played often. And the other one comes out of the case to. It’s right there.

I’m 62 been playing for 6 months. No matter how bad I suck I promised myself by this time next year I will suck so much worse. So I’m on a mission. I play every day for at least a hour. And I know that I’m not going to get any better. However I’m constantly working on failing. So I watch all these videos and I’m studying music, and I record myself to make sure I’m not getting any better at what I’m doing. The last thing I want is to be able to do is play a song! No way!
