    Happy birthday, Tim! I just wanted to say that I watched my first video of yours at 11 years old back when I was in 6th grade XC looking for running advice. Flash forward to today and I've run countless 100+ mile weeks, logged 3,200 hours of running on Strava since 2017, and climbed a lot of hills all while implementing your ideas and principles. After watching for over a decade, I recently bought a Running Raw hat from your store and wear it all the time to run now with pride. Thank you so much for all that you've given us over the last nearly twenty years since you started the Running Raw project. I hope to eventually catch a run with you one day and look forward to seeing what you accomplish in the future.

    Great to see you again Tim! You are looking great! I am sure you are aware of Nimae Delgado and Torre Washington. I have been Vegan now for quite some time and am an Elite Ironman athlete training well over 18 hours per week. Thank you for always inspiring! I am now 57 years old… hard to believe and yet I feel and still look like I did in my late 30’s … or so everyone tells me 😊
    Hugs to you and keep inspiring and living your absolute bliss!

    I just wanted to add an immense thanks for the past inspiration to pull kit on in the dark, to hear rain on the window and wind and to push into movement and motivation. Your videos really supported me particularly pertaining to overcoming inertia to push against it all. A real motivation Tim and you have always scattered seeds of positivity into prevailing winds. Best wishes from London always.

    That’s a great way to look at a workout. I used to be obsessed with bodybuilding and seeing how big that I could get. Never steroids, but very unhealthy. In three years I got huge as a hard gainer. Eventually bodybuilding and the food that most of them eat comes back to haunt them and that includes me. Eat healthy and exercise. What ever exercise that you like. Include other exercises.

    Been a follower of you since the beginning of your UA-cam channel. I love to see the growth and transformation man. It's awesome! Such an inspiration to me as I get older. I think I mentioned this before about a year ago but out of pure curiosity I would love to see what a typical day of eating looks like for you. What types of foods, amounts, supplements, smoothies, ect. I know you've sorta moved on from those types of videos but being someone who's watched from the beginning I'm curious to how different the food choices are. For instance do you still consume the same smoothies, as well as the evening salads?

In January 2024, I made a pledge to do just 5 push-ups; but to do them every day for that month. Well, I succeeded in my goal of doing 5 push-ups every day in January and it has made me so much stronger at doing push-ups. The compassionate approach works! Just 3.5 years behind you in age and vegetarian since I was 18, eliminated all but accidental animal-source food about 7 years ago. I mostly run trail ultras now and don't do much strength training. I started daily creatine monohydrate supplementation about a year ago (I use Thorne because I am confident in the quality and the price premium is not bad). I noticed all of the same changes you have mentioned here. I did have some sleep disturbance in the first week (I did not do a "loading phase," just 5g per day). After that it was improved recovery during (e.g. between intervals) and after training. And if I even think about exerting myself I seem to gain mass in the relevant muscles.
    Regarding training, I really think you are doing it in an incredibly powerful and effective way. Thank you for sharing and continuing to develop this approach! I hope that at some point your demons shut up and go away. Or you convert them and they start to help you out - folding laundry or cleaning the bathroom maybe? Keep being you - you are enough!

Much less evidence for the benefits of amla than creatine, but there is some showing improvement in blood sugar control.

    Like you I first started using it over 20 years ago (born in 1980 😂) to pump up and become massive. I then learned throughout the years of it's cognitive enhancing/preserving effects via hydration and ATP production etc.
    The only downside for me is that when trying to "run" regularly, my joints/ankles would take more of a beating do to the "rapid" weight gain...( 5' 7 140- 150 typically).

      Creatine (in the form of phosphocreatine) is only found in meat. But creatine monohydrate has been studied extensively for decades. I look at the research, and I'm confident that it's safe. But that's me. Everything should be tested. If you try something and notice negative effects (and you only added that one thing) then stop taking it. Very little that we do and consume in the modern world is 'natural'. I'd be dead many times over from infections, and crippled with Lyme disease if it were not for anti-biotics.

    Tim, you are not touching on the fact that creatine also makes you store more water weight. I don’t doubt you’ve gained muscle, but you’ve also gained water weight. That also may be why your abs are less defined. Either way, thanks for the video.

    • @runningraw
      @runningraw  5 місяців тому +4

      I mentioned that in the video. But it's. not normal 'water retention' - it's actually inside the muscle cells, rather than between tissues... and yes, some of the weight is most certainly water, but I look at it from a strength to weight ratio. My strength is going up at the same rate as my weight. A hydrated muscle, is a better functioning muscle.

      It would be interesting to see what Dr Doug Graham would have to say based on his 40yr raw lifestyle

    • @runningraw
      @runningraw  5 місяців тому +1

      Well, Doug would probably say that if you eat 4,500 calories a day on an 80/10/10 diet, you'll get 450 calories from protein, which is roughly 114 grams per day.

    Well done! About creatine, just watch out of you have high blood pressure. Mine has been borderline high for many years and when I tried creatine it went up to unhealthy levels. Just something to think about and something you might wanna monitor of you take it.

    • @runningraw
      @runningraw  5 місяців тому +2

      I looked at the studies in regard to blood pressure and creatine (as my mom has hypertension), and it seems that it's likely due to dehydration while taking creatine. So one would need to increase fluid consumption while taking creatine. But individual results may vary.

      The water is retained within the muscle cell, not outside like with excess sodium. So your cells become better hydrated.

      I have followed you from the beginning of your channel, and I think the main problem is your brain is highly sensitive to insulin resistance. The book brain energy highlights that schizophrenia is caused by insulin resistance of the brain. If you read the book you will change your outlook of veganism and understand your real problem was always insulin spikes.

      I've seen the episode with Huberman. It's a good theory, but at the moment, still largely theoretical, without much evidence to support it... also, there is never just one cause to any given problem, and never just one solution. Living organisms are infinitely complex.
