Varistha - Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Live at Swaralaya, New Delhi
Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman | Mysore Manjunath | E.M.Subramaniam
Varistha meaning Excellence which cannot be excelled, presents a series of concerts to be remembered and cherished, with utmost dedication and sincerity. The first in this series features a unique concert in a confluence of two legends of Carnatic music, Sangita Kalanidhi Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and Sangita Kalanidhi Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. It promises supreme happiness and a blissful enjoyment of a music performance that showers a rich tapestry of two of the finest aspects of music - melody and rhythm. The excellent rapport between the maestros electrifies the ambience drawing instantaneous appreciation from discerning rasikas. They are ably supported by Mysore M. Manujanath on the Violin and E. M. Subramaniam on the Ghatam in raising the concert to dizzy heights.
The concert features compositions in rare ragas, the highlight being the superb delineation of Desakshi and Chandrajyoti with a scintillating Thaniavarthanam that has beautiful rhythmic intricacies and exchanges with Ghatam. The dazzling RTP in Kalyani set to Panchamukhi thala followed by a stupendous thani adds rich variety and splendor to the entire concert making it a connoisseur delight to possess this as a collector item.
Swaralaya, New Delhi, brought this wonderful team of great musicians to commemorate its Puraskar award function.

7:20 to till end is really superb.... I love that Ghatam and Mrudangam combination...
Gatham and Miruntham combination is very fine I never expect this thanks to the team
Wow what fireworks from UKS sir!
Super
stellar performance from the mridangam wizard
I think this is the only concert where even the audience took part in thani avarthanam - 7:25 to 8.00.
by the by, where did this happen ?
Magical performance by Umayalpuram Sir. Hand of God in Rhythm - need a life time to understand the intricacies !
They have a different way of hand counting than westerners. I can't figure out how they're counting but I like it. The clap pattern and varying speeds are interesting
wonderful!
3:12 sivaraman sir👏👏👏
Dr. BMK had a unique talent of transforming every concert into a enjoyable and memorable experience to the audience! Superb team work by Sri. Manjunath, Sri. Sivaraman and Sri. Subramaniam! Thanks to the Sanskrit Series team!
Can't for the life of me understand why BMK includes percussionists during kalpana swara. The beauty of one of the best parts of the concert totally loses it's momentum and intensity. Thank God this hasn't become mainstream.
Absolutely true. Flow will be missed. Someone could have apprised him about it. Though I am his ardent follower, I will not listen to when he involves mridangam while swara prastharam.
Your immense respect for UKS is glaring in your comment. Pun intended.
It's actually Legendapuram Sivaraman sir!
Best
Class indeed ..pranams to Dr BMK.& E.M.Subramaniam, who passed away in 2015.
U. Sivaraman's mridangam has a unique resonance and his mastery of the instrument is excellent.
I'm amazed at the synchronicities. Everything blends yet is simultaneously distinct. Kinda like Indian food.
Amazing performance.... but why is there an abrupt cut between the Mridhangam’s solo and the duet of Ghatam and Mridhangam.... why is the Ghatam solo missing....? Why purposely edited it....???
Great experience. Nice to hear balamurali and it is great to watch Manjunath and subramaniam keeping pace with legends Sivaraman and Balamurali
Concert so beautiful
Truly magnificent! Many thanks for sharing this absolute delight.
Hi
Correct it. It is NAdavrAngini. Not NAdatarangini.

ஆகா சபாஷ் அற்புதம்
True to the name of the series - Varishta (Excellent) . Marvelous mridangam and ghatam play. The maestro Sri U.K. Sivaraman looks so relaxed. and at ease - it's like he is really playing ! Thank you very much for sharing.

what is the song called from 0:10 - 0:30
It's a thillana in the ragam kunthalavarali, composed by Dr. Balamuralikrishna himself.
Absolutely ridiculous idea to give mridangam and ghata chance to play during kalpana swaras. The whole beauty of the kalpana swara rending is completely lost. What a terrible waste.
Allowing mridanga and ghata to play during the kalpana swaras completely ruined the experience. Future generations, please do not copy this concept.
I have no clue about your expertise in Carnatic music but I can very confidently say if the younger generation take your advice seriously, they are going to ruin their creativity and stop enjoying the ecstasy of music. It will sound like hell.
@@1973ravik You will get "creativity", "ecstacy" by introducing the mridanga and ghata to play exclusively during kalpana swara? Music will sound like hell if they don't play!!! Really? Are you kidding me. It wasn't being played since the advent of music, and all those years the rasikas were being punished with hellish kalpana swaras because mridanga and ghata were not getting to play exclusively? This comment's got to be the biggest joke of the year.
You don't need to advise the stalwarts. They are much better placed than a mundane Rasika.
