My father owned Leo San, Wimpy Leo, Commander king and Hollywood Bill. Sold them all around 1964-65. I warmed them up for the trainers as a kid.

I just want to complement everyone involved with this piece. from the rooter to the tooter this was an absolute masterclass in not only equine media but the cow horse in general. that was one of the most enthralling 25 minutes in my life. through all the terrible productions out there I found this gem. thank you so much for creating this.

when asking what can be done to improve the breed, the thing that comes to my mind is putting some size back in the product. I feel like my feet drag the ground on these ponies. Beautiful, smart, and short. Let's aim for 15 hands please.

My little black mare out of Brownsville Texas, was a king ranch daughter, was only 14.5, got to be short to get low like that to cut a cow. If that's what they're breeding for, that's the size they need. If you're doing cutting the lower to the ground the easier it is on the horses legs and that's why they go for the shorter stature.

A sister to Leo was my horse as a child and teen ager, she had the looks and smarts to do anything but was so gentle a 2 year old would be safe on her. She was taller than leo but they were twins in markings and color.

Hey 👍👍, enjoyed the ole familiar faces and memories. Yesteryear weekender here. I much enjoyed the video. But, but i liked my sugar bar x leo cross , touch of some Hollywood gold. Want to light a fire put some gray Badger in there. Breeding better 🤔 I'm not sure I'd get behind that. 😅 A whole lot tough old ponies that would be better in today's environment. My old friend, Curly, aka Arthur Talmage , you back on Rey Jay where your at😉. I'll see you in the not too distant .

I own JBW Levi Cat. He has 2 looks like rocking W's on left hind. Paper's have him in Nebraska and South Dakota but I was told he was purchased before me from west Texas. I'm in South central Texas. I'm curious about the brand. I've looked on line but haven't found anything. He's 22 y/o gelding. Spooky smart. I didn't buy him because of pedigree, was clueless about Doc Bar and all the big names on his "birth certificate". I am curious about brand so any info would be appreciated.

I just bought a foal born a couple stalls down from where Lightning Bar stood. It’s surreal to walk into that barn knowing the history in it. The fact that one is now mine even more so. Even neater that several names on his face papers are mentioned more than once in this video.

Great piece it like sports writers that compare the athletes of today to the past hall of farmers . The evolution of nutrition, sports science a genetics of human athletes it is no different then horses. They both play or show tougher schedules I remember when I was cutting 35 years ago you did not hear much about hock injections, now that’s part of the schedule like worming. Just like when I played in collage way back when if you got your bell rung they gave you smelling salts now you have concussion protocols. I’ll stop rambling. I sure admire the cutting horse great athlete. Thanks NCHA

This is all about the studs the problem is it's the great Mares that are 70% of how that baby is going to turn out great studs get most of the credit because they're getting bred to the greatest Mares I would much rather have a great mare bred to an average stud you're going to come out with at least a real good baby if you breed a great stud to an average mare more than likely you're going to have an average baby the Mares don't get near enough credit I'll take an average stud bred to a mare that's won 3 or five to5 hundred thousand any day over the other way around you can take Shania Cee as great example Lynx Melody who is bread to a stud that worked the cow great but he had no breeding behind him at all and you ended up with Shania Cee it didn't matter what you bred Lynx Melody to you were going to have a great baby and she was bred to very average studs I know because I trained at least 300 for Billy Cogdell and they were getting one baby or if she had twins two babies I think twice where royal blue Boon was getting a ton of babies each year out of great studs if Lynx Melody would have been bred the same way she would have been right there with royal blue Boon

I fully admit my total ignorance when it comes to horse breeding...and yes, these stallions seem remarkable and incredibly important---but, my gawd. The way these men give ALL the credit to only the male horse, is pretty appalling. Hey Gents, not a one of you would exist without your Mothers---nor would any of these horse offspring even exist without the MARES. Let's honor both lines of parentage, please.

All those horses look beefy 🥩 ready to be barbecued, it’s good to know the u.s. is making a horse breed with enough meat to be profitable not like many other horse breeds that do not have a lot of meat to eat.

@@XxShellyW13xX as of 2020 the U.S. is the leading country in beef 🥩 (cattle meat) consumption but guess what people in India worship cattle as a God, don’t you think people in India think about the u.s. as the people who eat their God? Horses are not considered a God in the U.S.
There are many cultures and customs in the world, the culture from the white people of the u.s. is not the only one. Therefore, people who eat horse meat or fish or chicken it’s ok. Some religious beliefs tells people not to eat pork. So if you find it offensive that’s on you theres nothing I can do about, it’s called freedom of speech in the constitution of the United States.
