I've been meaning to make an organza ruff for a clown lolita coord I'm putting together - this video is so helpful! I know I'll be coming back to it when I get sewing it
Oh look, another tutorial for something I'll never do, but watching The Stitchess allows me to understand my fabric craft friends. Also, even in things like this, your love of this is screaming through every word. And the excitement is contagious. Thank you, as always, for sharing.
Fun fact! Many of the portraits shown, specifically by Paulus Moreelse are not in fact nobles or royals. He is a dutch painter who was based in Utrecht, in what was than the republic of the seven united provinces. No royal house! The people in the portraits are merchants. In this time period there was a big powershift with lots of “new”(stolen) money making merchants far more influential than nobles.
Thanks for this very clear demonstration. I never realized it was that easy! FYI- you could have just used contrasting threads for the video with a disclaimer that IRL you’d match the thread to fabric choice. ie, pink for basting and yellow for tacking on. Would be easier to follow. Great job anyway
Im so excited for this video! I've been wanting to make a ruff since I saw one being sold at a music festival a few months back (it was like $200 so I could not justify buying it.) I can't wait to try to follow along with this!
Thank you for this tutorial! I just completed my ruff based from this video and it is literally perfect! The only change I made to mine was adding ties to the back of the neck! ❤
Well. It's clown time.
I clicked on the tutorial with no plans to make this but seeing you model this with cute alt clothes has me inspired!!
😈 yes, make all the things!

Just be sure to use a soft material for the neck cuff, organza can be pretty scratchy!
Oooh I really want to see this coord once its finished, it sounds cute!

Скажите пожалуйста как можно постирать такой воротник, чтобы форму не потерять, и как ее потом погладить чтобы не помять?
Loved learning the history of the ruff! Thanks for the ladder stitch explanation too. This was such a helpful tutorial. I adore the final ruff!
I’m glad it was helpful!
So cute! I never would have thought to put a ruff with that strapless bodice, but it really makes the ensemble pop!
I made it specifically with that bodice in mind ^-^
amazing! what is a soft crown tho?
A soft crown is a crown that’s made out of fabric ^-^

UGH YES ALL THE COLLARS
When you went through the history, I was struck that the informal style of ruff looked like petticoats for the neck...
Poof but for your neck, lol.
yesss, just what I needed! 💓
oooo wonderfully suitable for my clowncore needs
cute video❤🎉
Omg ty, I didn't know I needed this until I saw it in black. Thanks for posting the pic with link on here, I definitely would've missed it otherwise
Imma do this
AAah-! I havent seen ruffle collar used in more modern edgy styles, very inspiring👏🎶
🖤🖤🖤
I voted for soft crown but now I'm glad you did the collar because I need one for my clown outfit!

Would this work with minky or fleece fabric? I'm making a clown fursuit and wanted her collar to be a bit softer :)
I'm clowning out
Thanks for the tutorial!! I’ve been wanting to make one of these for YEARS but I could never find a good tutorial or guide to make one of these!
I’m glad this was helpful then ^-^
