@Aubri Thornton it doesn’t work with anything the reason why it turns that colour is when u overcharge ur phone causing it to burn the case bec of heat from the phone
So if these cases are made out of plastic, resin or silicone, you probably actually can't clean the yellow off because it's not "on top" of the case. It's a chemical reaction that occurs over time with exposure to light and possibly other elements. Crafters who work with resin often struggle with the same issues -- projects turning yellow over time or developing a yellow cast. Same with clear silicone mold makers. The yellow is typically right through the silicone or resin/plastic unfortunately.
I wonder why someone hasn't invented a type of light that can do the opposite and just bleach the plastics. But I guess that's just not how light works! Thanks for this comment.
@@bobgoober7324 You are correct! lmao, I can answer this now: YES! After I left that comment earlier I found a video of a guy completely restoring and fixing the color on an old Dreamcast and Playstation 1, some keyboards, etc.
@@bobgoober7324 and yes, it seems to be a mixture of LED light exposure, and Heat that does the trick. How interesting. Its like simulating time passing by.. or putting something solid in an almost malleable state. I can't talk good. Science is awesome.
It's a mixture of sun bleaching and sweat. Even if your hands don't feel sweaty, they're still sweating. Your hands have grease on them all the time and that mixed with sun bleaching turns it yellow. The way you can get rid of it is by using hydrogen peroxide and setting it in UV light. I watch a lot of old game console restoration videos and they usually have these make-shift chambers. They use a clear tote, fill it with peroxide. On the outside of the tote there's lights that face into the tote, and then it's all sealed up with tinfoil to keep the light in the tote. However this can sometimes cause the material it's made out of to become brittle, but only if you do it too much.
For anyone who wants more information on this technique, it's called retrobrite and it works on so many things and can be modified for whatever purpose you need. Retro tech and toy collectors love it and UA-cam is full of tutorials. I usually don't even use a tote, just acrylic paint over anything I don't want to get bleached and I leave it in the sun.

This happens because of UV exposure (sunlight and cleaning lights) and can be easily fixed with hydrogen peroxide and exposure to sunlight. I know it’s sounds counterintuitive since UV exposure causes the yellowing it but the hydrogen peroxide is really the key here. Just know that if you do this too often it can make some plastics a more brittle. Sometimes you can remove slight surface yellowing by using something like The Pink Stuff or baking soda because it’s a fine abrasive and acts almost like sand paper and removes the top layer (and the aged material with it). This technique is used in restoring yellowed plastics in technology as well. Oh and baking soda plus lemon juice (or vinegar) neutralize each other so your best bet might be to use one first, then rinse and use the other.this mix isn’t ideal for this application, but if you were cleaning something else that would be my suggestion on how to effectively use that.
@@emilyttran officially you need a higher percentage peroxide than what you normally grab at the store but I would definitely try it. I’d put some in a plastic bag and give it some time in the sun. The yellowing is due to the nature of the material, commonly it's TPU. It can be slowed by limiting sun and oil exposure (including lotion). It's an unfortunate limitation of the material, though better manufacturing and care to prevent sun and oil can prolong the clearness.
I saw an article that answered the question of how to make your case completely transparent again, and the answer was that you can’t. The person explained that the silicone that the cases are made of is originally a yellowish colour, and that manufacturers use blue tint to cancel it, so if it turns yellow it’s because the tiny is fading away and it’s returning to its original colour (This only happens with cheap cases (most of them), but if I don’t misremember, original apple cases for example use other material a bit more expensive but completely clear, so it doesn’t get yellow)
overtime, clear materials break down and gain a yellow hue, such process is unstoppable. however, if you do want to reverse it, you can apply peroxide cream or salon cream as you may know it all over the yellowed parts and shine it in an isolated UV light, not applying the cream can turn it even yellower. heres the time consuming part: you should have a plastic container big enough for the case, and wrap it in masking tape on the outside, and with uv strips on the inside. leave the object inside until it turns back to white. this can take from a few hours to days or weeks depending how severe it is. *if anyone reading this ever tries it, be sure to cover any parts that have paint or other patterns, as it will start to fade inside your UV box.

It literally happens from being exposed to light, like sunlight yiu cant fix it 💀
You can’t ‘clean’ the yellow off. I work at a phone store and ALL clear cases go yellow, yes even the name brand otter boxes. All of the clear cases for the iPhone 12 are yellow now that we have in stock.
This is mostly due to sun exposure, try keeping your phone shaded more often
A lot of it is oils from your oily skin getting on the case but damn getting yellow that fast you either hotbox ciggs all day, work as a mechanic, or your skin is super oily.. also the sun can mess up plastics but your never supposed to ever put any electronics in the sun ever
You could just buy a new phone case 🤠
Just don't get a clear case
The only way to turn yellowed cases back to white is hydrogen peroxide and sunlight, either in liquid form, or cream
If you search for restoring old computers they have great tutorials on how to use the stuff, I suggest the 8 bit guy
It’s uv light that does this so unfortunately there is no way of turning it back. I have a uv steriliser that turns all silicon/plastic yellow very quickly
It looks like goddamn mayo💀💀💀
