I really enjoyed this game, the game play is surprisingly good and it holds up well against more sophisticated tech of the day. Also the design is stunning and the build quality really good. Thanks so much for your comments.
I love VFD games and have a couple of the ones you've shown repairs on on here - but I'd not seen the Race 'n Chase running before. This was a nice little repair, thanks for showing us.
Hi @MrVectrexUK. I like these VFD games too, they have become something of a niche for me and the channel. I have at least 6 others yet to repair and show on the channel, so o hope you will stick around for those. One day I'd like to do another vectrex too, the one I repaired I gave away as a gift, but prices have sky rocketed since then. Thanks very much for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the video
Another cool retro game restored. I haven’t seen one of these in Australia, possibly not one that made it over here. Fortunately the caps don’t seem to be a problem with these games, unlike the little ‘67 Panasonic radio I picked up at a thrift store recently. Only three electrolytics in it but I replaced them as it was distorting. The 1uF at the volume pot was leaky, reading 2uF on the tester. Sounds pretty good now.
Thanks Wenlocktvdx. Nice job on the radio, I haven't strayed into analogue repair much yet, tried a couple but it didn't go well. I do occasionally see caps causing problems although I bet it would be worth replacing them sometimes if I only new! Thanks for your comments. PS enjoy your TV DX I used to like hunting live satellite feeds when they used to be open analogue signals before anyone had a dish.... Happy days!
Unfortunately there’s hardly any analogue TV signals this side of the world. Maybe a couple of Indonesian or Thai stations using US ch2. I do get digital signals from Traralgon on the other side of Melbourne and on rare occasions, Launceston in Tasmania.
Thanks SO much. I'm really pleased you are enjoying the videos, I try hard to get better, some work out, some don't, but I'm VERY appreciative of your comments. I'm so happy you are enjoying the vids. Thank you.
Thanks BluejuiceT4 that's very kind and I can't tell you how much it's appreciated. Comments like yours are what's kept me doing this for 2 years despite the relatively small (though awesome and loyal) number of sunb and views. Cheers mate. Nice van... Camper?
Always excited when I see you've uploaded 😊 Another enjoyable repair, love seeing inside and glad it was fairly straightforward for you. Such a cool looking game, really like the shape. Never played one but it is a similar colour to my Bandai Missile Invader. Cheers
Thanks skyway... And I look forward to your feedback on each video too! Thank you. I hadn't thought about the colour but you are correct. I don't have any bandai games but have seen them listed I'm sure they will make it to the channel at some point. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I've got some stuff in the pipeline I hope you find interesting.
Thanks for an entertaining video! That power jack is often the culprit on these old games :-) I have 6 of the Bambino games. Never had them as a kid, but I am drawn to the awesome design of them. They didn't try to replicate the real arcade machines but made a unique look of their own. Watching your video made me realize that my own Race'n'Chase is missing the black stripe running from the screen and to the bottom of the unit. Hmm, need to fix that with some electrical tape.
Hi Steen. Glad you enjoyed the video. This is my first Bambino game but I've really enjoyed playing and repairing it. I will definitely look out for more. I have definitely spotted some common failure patterns and the connector is one. Some repairs are so similar to ones already posted that I don't bother editing them and posting, but the game itself made the Race'n'Chase worthwhile. The stripe is a paper sticker on my game and mine started to peel away as I cleaned it so had to stick it down. I'd imagine black electrical tape would work very well. Thanks for sharing your feedback perhaps let us know what games you have. If I see others spares or repair I'll try to feature them at some point. Thanks again!
@@RetroTechRepair Thanks for the info about the paper sticker! I tried the solution with black electrical tape, and I am happy about the result. Has a nice matte finish to it, but I am a little concerned about if it gets loose over time and creates a lot of stickiness as that type of tape sometimes does. Well, I guess time will tell. The other Bambino games I currently have are Lucky Puck Ice Hockey , UFO Master-Blaster Station, Boxing, Football, and Safari. They are all little designer master pieces - in my opinion :-) However, the actual VFDs are just one color as far as I remember, so they are not as spectacular as some of he other brands'. But again - nice video. Please keep them coming :-D
Great, they vary wildly in price on eBay but I'm sure you could get a good and well priced one. I think it's a really good game, gives lots of entertainment compared to other games of the time. Thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the video
HI Michael, glad to bring back some memories. I didn't have one either, in fact I don't even remember them, so its Nic to hear from somebody who did. Thanks for the comments!
ive often found boiling in distilled spirit vinegar for 20 seconds helps fix jacks like this on game gears and atari lynx (and the headphone jacks too)
What a good idea, I have a few games with this issue and it's hard to make entertaining content with the same old repairs! I will definitely try this. Thanks for your input.
I’ve never seen this tabletop game or even remember it being sold back in the late 70’s, looks a decent game too!. Shame the screen is cracked after getting it working again.
Thanks Dave, I don't remember it at all either. Despite the 70's look apparently it was released early 80's but presumably designed before then. As you say it's a decent game with more game play than some of its contemporaries. Fortunately the screen crack is much less obvious in use than it appears on camera. Thanks again for your comments and support. Much appreciated as always!
Thanks Tomorrowsphere. I think it's my favourite game to date in many ways and perhaps that comes across. Nice easy repair anyone can do, keeping a vintage game that's a bit different out of landfill. Thanks as always for your continued support it really does make a huge difference.
I have one of these, I don't know anything about electronics. I was wondering what power pack I could use instead of batteries? It says AC E640, is that all I need to look for?
bambino vfd games as far as i know were only made in the states and they didn't import them so that's probably why you never saw them and they weren't around very long before going bankrupt
Great info wolfcanine100. Thanks for the comments. I do keep my eyes out for interesting VFDs on ebay so hope to find some more bambino games. But it looks like it might be a while. Thanks so much for your comment.
I have a 1982 Casio MG888 calculator with games. It's in great condition but it won't turn on. If the calculator is bent slightly then the screen works but the buttons don't. Would attempt to repair this for me? Thanks.
Oh wow! I'd forgotten all about those Casio game calculators. That's a rare item, very nice. Unfortunately I don't do repairs for others, but to be honest it's probably a bit out of my league anyhow. Thanks for the comment though. Brought back fond memories of those fun Casio items
I used to have this when I was in primary school. Around 1984. Loved it.

I love fixing these old games as well.
That's great R Majere. Glad to see someone share my passion. Have you a favourite?
@@RetroTechRepair if you mean favourite game then Astro Wars or Coleco Zaxxon (the large VFD one).
