Hi, Roger! What a fantastic Disa jungle!! That seller is so generous! He really made you and all of us so happy! We have a lot to look forward to. Happy growing!🌸
That is an awesome haul. He was very generous not enough people like that in the world. This is going to be fun trying to figure out which one I like best. Make sure you tell us what you like the best.
They are classed as 'bog plants' but remember, where they are found they are growing by streams and water run-off - in other words, fresh moving water not stale standing water (bogs).
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai Ohh I learned that they are a bit cool growing. I have no chance to grow them I guess because I am living in Cyprus and it’s sub tropical and extremely hit long summer at least 8 months ☀️😬 I am good with cattleyas, catasetums and phalaenopsis. I don’t use any heater or cooler devices. So I am sure they will be easy in your environment. Enjoy it 💕🧿
My goodness I can’t stop commenting, sorry. Disa uniflora is so beautiful. My favorite out of the bunch of 4 or 6 dozen orchids… I don’t envy the anxiety of getting them prepared but at least they don’t need to be individualized ever, let alone, not yet to divide them at all: Time to get creative! Wish you the best and happy growing!
I put off buying Disa's for a long time because I thought they would be very tricky to grow. I have to say that they have been the easiest orchids for me. I grow them outside on my covered back deck all year round, they get full morning sun. Our temp can go down to 1-2 celcius in winter. I use tap water in the tray as our town water is very good. When the water in the tray dries up I top it up to 2 cms depth. I love the yellow and the peach coloured disa's you bought. They are impossible to get where I live, lucky you!
Excellent video. I'm from South Africa Durban and we are planning on moving to the UK middle next year. I must admit I was a little upset cos I have over 200 orchids. Upset that we were moving to a cold wet place. Watching this video gives me hope that I am able to continue growing these beautiful specimens. 🎉🎉🎉 Well done on growing Disa cos they ate finicky. 👏 😊
I'm so excited for you and your new Disas. I have not heard of ti's plant before so I. Interested in learning more. I just got a rew new bag babies myself thanks to a tip from Paula of Hillbilly Orchids. I know your excitement. All the best!
It appears you have been passed the torch to grow more disas! Good luck to you with a new challenge. I’m certain you are up for it. They are all lovely. Can’t wait to see their placement & future development.
Hi Roger. Good luck with your Disas. I´ve never got to do it successfully, but I will be very interested in your care and culture because I really love them and wish I could grow some more again, if your experience turns to be good I might.Thanks.
It's so great to see you excited! You picked up some beauties! Sherbet colored kites. I love Disa and tried them a couple years ago and promptly failed after a few months. I don't see them for sale often here in the states. Looking forward to watching your journey with them.
I have never hear of "disas" either… and I obsessively research orchids of all kinds… so this is a wonderful discovery for me. I also think they are truly lovely This is a good video and I love that you start by saying this seller helps the world go round… people like that DO help the world go round in a much better motion. And I’m glad you’ve met this seller. What an exciting time! I am excited to view them as they develop on your channel :)
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai but I find that to be true with all orchids because they need their care adjusted with everyone’s personal environment: I find that I’ve had to alter care with every orchid I have, just a bit. And even somewhat different from the same genus to the same genus. Phal to phal for example. But I see why people would avoid the seemingly different care initially. These days that doesn’t sound any different than normal, but I have just a teeny bit of experience to go from now. Obviously getting an orchid unsuited for an environment i totally understand, but if you prove these to be acceptable in your environment, then I know I’ll be looking to get some myself some as well ^.^
These are really gorgeous! I am one that never heard of these. I just love them! Incredible haul. Looking forward to hearing about them, their likes and dislikes. Very exciting
Yes - the trays of water could have ice cubes added to keep them cool. But I doubt the water would stay cool for long. I may keep some water in the fridge?
Really nice haul. It would not be impossible to make a growspace, where they could grow in slightly moving water! A tray with a little slope and a cirkulation pump.
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai i think they would! When the water move it will " run" through the pot aswell. You can plant them in those pots you use in a pond!
Just an idea…. But what if you instead of rearranging so much, you hung them from a pole from the ceiling, so they have air and high light. I understand they need to be in water so what about self watering pots or not necessarily self watering but something with a small reservoir at the bottom that you could just fill the trays. I actually hung a couple of plants (masdevallias) that I wanted to keep cool in a not so cool a time of year for me…so I put them in terracotta pots and then put those pots in plastic pots, with holes and I attached plastic trays to the outer pot so that I can pour water into the tray whenever it’s empty and the terracotta pot can be in a constant state of evaporative cooling which really really seems to be doing well for them! Just an idea. They would look lovely all hanging from the ceiling in a line
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai yes I know they need to stand in water. I wrote such a long comment that you probably didn’t see it all. Haha but it’s good you have a plan for them! They are so pretty
That's an amazing haul! Looks like the "experiment" has been going really well so far. About the placement of the pelargoniums - and I'm sure you have thought about that but, just in case - are there any holey clay pots left that you could stand them inside, for added stability, and put them outside? Anyhow, looks like some orchid tetris is next on the list.
Fantastic haul! How gorgeous they are!! 😍 Enjoy your new additions, Roger.
Thanks.
@@robirobinson3602 I thought it said new addiction. And I’m just like /slow nod

@LauraStansfield-tw7xb 😂 I figured Roger doesn't succumb to 'addictions' of the orchid kind. He's been around too many years. 😉😁
Hi, Roger! What a fantastic Disa jungle!! That seller is so generous! He really made you and all of us so happy! We have a lot to look forward to.

Some blooms are going over now so it will soon be repotting time.
Wow!! That is some haul. Beautiful!! I’m looking forward to seeing the progression….Congratulations. Some of the colors are truly magnificent. Enjoy😊
Thanks.
Yes you did well and he was so generous. Interested to see how your setup will look like.
Looks like Roger has a new addiction! I can’t say I blame him. Beautiful!
A new path to take.

What a beautiful genus! Never heard of them.Hope ,with your knowledge and help,I’ll be able to grow them in my climate.Thank you Roger.❤
You're welcome.
Wow Roger, those are beautiful 😍 I'm looking forward to watching your journey with this genre.
These need quite 'specialised' care - not difficult, just different.
Wow, how many plants! Very nice.
Thanks.
I look forward to traveling down this new road with you.
a 2nd try but this time with much better plants and a better care guide from someone who is growing them well.
As you mentioned I never heard of this orchids. And they are stunning little orchids. I might try to find them ❤

Nice haul of plants, good luck with them you could grow them in baskets
But how would he do that standing in water?
I was thinking he could hang them from the ceiling in self watering pots
I will follow the way of the grower - it works.
What a lovely haul!
Thanks.

Most people would not have the right conditions for these and without the specialised care, they would not do well.

Most growers pass them by as they need such different care to other orchid types.

Hi Roger, what a haul!!! and how they all are beautiful. I will be watching your journey caring for your new obsession. So happy for you.
Thanks (more work!!)
They are beautiful plants. The colours are stunning. I will look forward to seeing more of these beauties and your journey regarding their care. Xxx
Looking after them won't be a problem - but I will still be nervous when repotting/splitting them.
I foresee some Disa’s at the next AGM… Beautiful plants 👍
I don't mind passing some on to others in the future but only if they can give the more specialised care required.

Christmas morning at Roger's house! Great to see that big smile on your face and happiness in your heart!😉😊
Thanks - really please to have another go at these.
Oh my goodness I love the first one you have! Looks like a miniature! So adorable and I love it .

Wow! Beautiful collection of Disa 🌱👏. Blooms are gorgeous 🥰. Looking forward to see their future in your grow room.
Glad you find a good seller👍.
Thanks - finding a seller that's more interested in the plants and their well-being rather than profit is a rare thing.
Truly an amazing haul. In the states, Disas are difficult to come by. One small plant can be 55 dollars!! Maybe you will become a Disa supplier ?? lol
If I can grow them well, they will multiply quickly and there will be plenty to pass on to others.
Nice
Thanks.

I can’t believe you have so many plants… soo who are you going to give all your extras to!? ^_^;;

They are part of the puzzle - as well as thinking about the Cymbidiums coming back inside later.
It's easier to care for 10 then 1 😁
They seem to like being potted as a group - makes splitting/repotting much easier.
I'll have two please 😁 (you got at least 100 plants)
Probably more - there could be 20-30 in one pot.
Do they grow from a corm, rizome or bulb?
It's like a corm - specifically called a 'stolon'.
Can't find them in the USA🙁
There are only a few private collections in the UK and some don't sell.
Better order some more peat then !
I'm paying a visit to the place tomorrow - I'll get some more then (no shipping costs).
