    Yes, the first R in 'February' is often replaced with a [j] sound (so the second syllable sounds the same as the second syllable for 'January'). I can't say that I consistently hear the first R dropped in 'laboratory'.

    There really is almost no difference (ʌ can be in a stressed syllable, which means the jaw will drop more), but I did make a video a couple of years ago on the Three UH Sounds. Check it out!
