Bringing back memories of servicing a few tx3 laser's as an apprentice in the early nineties, one of only 3 fast cars Ford produced in the early nineties. The eb gt, the batman capri and tx3 laser were all fun to drive and it's a shame you don't see more of them around.
You really need to get into a BG8Z Familia GTR, or the GTR-AE. The TX3 had the lower spec GTX engine and side mount intercooler. It was also slightly longer in the boot area. Very underrated car against the 2 litre Subaru's and Evo's. I really should have kept both my rally car and the street car. Track was a little narrow and they jumped out of the wheel tracks when you ran them on the gravel, but they were nimble and could fit through a farm gate sideways.. Weak point was the gearbox which was fixed in a couple of different ways. Fixing the 2nd 3rd issue moved the problem to the right angle drive. Do not launch them hard, and they will run for quite a while. Stick a box cooler on them and they last a little longer. If you were lucky enough, and ran Group A, maybe you could afford the X-Trac box. Mod now is to run a Toyota GT4 or RAV-4 gearbox. Then there are no problems. Some have put EVO boxes in them. They have a very distinctive sound ua-cam.com/video/VFSrogJuXE8/v-deo.html

Performance of a modern day car in a 28 year old vehicle? Not really comparing apples with apples mate when the one you’re driving has 220KW ATW. A lot of modern family sedans are quicker than the TX3 was stock. I owned one and mildly modded it back in the day. It had 121KW ATW with just a JDM ECU, more boost, and a front mount intercooler. It was a really fun car to drive, especially with the full Whiteline Works suspension that I fitted, but the weak gearboxes were definitely the Achilles heel of these cars. Nice video overall but a bunch of minor errors that only us TX3 fans pick up on. The TX3’s 57:43 rear-biased torque split was great fun in the rain or on greasy roads, and the rear bias meant that you could just plant your right foot to dial out understeer on a twisty road. I’d loved TX3s since I was a kid and a family friend bought a KF TX3 4WD brand new. I ended up buying a KH TX3 Turbo 4WD as my first car, and it was great fun and a great learning experience. Learned to swap gearboxes and transfer cases, and a whole bunch of other skills that I still use today. By the end of the time I owned it, I could have the front end off the car and the gearbox drained and out in record time 😂
It’s a Mazda the 323ss turbo was the original wrx killer. Ford laser body is ugly the Mazda familia was the hot hatch back in the nineties And the Mitsubishi cordia would eat the tx3 for breakfast!!!! Not to say the car isn’t nice but with all the mods you’re easily looking at 15k minimum which is a bit steep for a tx3 awd turbo. Overall great job by the owner respect for keeping it for so long Nice job . Just for interested what it cost for the mods all up including tuning????? Thanks
we never got that one here down under. By the way did you know this model of Ford Laser featured here was sold in Nth America as a Ford Escort? I've seen many 5 door ones, but not with this twin cam engine, or on a 3 door body type.

Hey buddy, the escort gt did come with that engine. Just not turbo. I have one built for racing and turbo charged.
Oh I have a soft spot for theses and the bfmr/p Mazda's
Me and my best friends all had tx3's or mazda familias wish you could add pictures to comments my wedding day we had 2 TX3 4wd turbo show cars and a Mazda Familia GTR as wedding cars.
That’s actually so sick! I would love to see that line up.😍😍
My wife had one brand new, which we traded in 2012 for the cost of rego left....ah well.
must be kicking yourself now... probably ended up going to Sims metal..
@@paulsz6194 not really mate, it's taken on a second life with a bloke in the area that has before a comp stereo car loudest in the country apparently. However the bloke has wrecked the car in order to fit this setup.. Ah well.
My aunite owns one, it needa alot of work but imma try buy it iff her

not me having a 1990 ford laser S (1.5L) with a stock ass b5 in it, auto FWD. plan is tx3 swap, manual swap and AWD swap😌
I have a 96 for laser Glxi that’s standard. Does anyone know if I could put this engine in my car?
Ford Laser friends...From malaysia
Did you say the var weighs 1,480 kilos? If you did that is a heavy car for a small 4 cyl 2 door hatch.
1100
@@Lynchy237 that's for sharing the correct car weight
they are 1200ish the n/a one is around 1080..
The trd lzr
Where can I import 1 back to singapore?
hi mate the tx3s where from Japan the base laser was built in australia
I know all of the AWD tx3's were indeed built in Japan then shipped over, I'm not sure if it was the same for the FWD tx3's but I know all the 4 door versions were built in Australia
@@gtxtx3 fwd tx3 was built in japan as well.
By the end of the time I owned it, I could have the front end off the car and the gearbox drained and out in record time 😂
Is the hatch version worth the same $$$ I might have 1 for sale
Good
It’s a Mazda the 323ss turbo was the original wrx killer.
Ford laser body is ugly the Mazda familia was the hot hatch back in the nineties
And the Mitsubishi cordia would eat the tx3 for breakfast!!!!
Not to say the car isn’t nice but with all the mods you’re easily looking at 15k minimum which is a bit steep for a tx3 awd turbo.
Overall great job by the owner respect for keeping it for so long
Nice job .
Just for interested what it cost for the mods all up including tuning????? Thanks
we never got them in uk
We had rs turbos and rs cosworths, proper ford's.
That's frustrating that your escort gt came awd
i owned a fakeone for 7 years
The Ford hot hatch of the nineties was the Escort RS Turbo hands down..
we never got that one here down under. By the way did you know this model of Ford Laser featured here was sold in Nth America as a Ford Escort? I've seen many 5 door ones, but not with this twin cam engine, or on a 3 door body type.
@@paulsz6194 we didn't but we should have!! Criminal!! Ha ha. No didn't know about the laser in the US.. fun fact!
I think you’re forgetting the Escort Cosworth.
@@Retro_Rich ha ha.. yeah that's another conversation all together..
