I caught a crappie this past week that "had its tuxedo on." Was wondering why it was so dark. Now I know. Love to be entertained & learn something at the same time.
Thank you Peter! I didn't know they got like that until I got up here to Michigan. Back home in Kansas, I typically caught White Crappie and wasn't familiar with this type of coloration during the spawn.
I can't wait to see how many crappie you end up keeping for your old man. I got a nice little green salsa that goes great on fish tacos! All you need is - Sour Cream - Jalapenos - Lime - Herdez Salsa Verde Mix it all together and its amazing.
Nothing wrong with keeping a few! I appreciate that you harvest responsibly and that you set a good example for others! Crappie do be tasty, but I think my favorite fish to catch and cook is either Catfish (Bullhead or Blue), Walleye/Saugeye, or Speckled Trout. I would say Speckled Trout is my all time favorite, but I can only catch them when I am on vacation. I have heard Esox such as Northern Pike and Chain Pickerel are good too.
I heard Pike are good when you pickle them! Yeah I am going to start keeping a few more fish this year. I enjoy eating them and need to stop being lazy haha
A lot of people say Crappies are very delicious to eat, I would not know that at all. I just fish for them and that's it. Yeah I could see how that sun is nothing but a glare, another great video and beautiful crappies right there. A job well done on catching them
I have used BFS several times and actually own two setups! I like it, but I don't think it really helps me for most of my fishing trips. You can check out several videos on my channel with it by searching "Online Outdoorsman BFS" in the search bar.
I used to bobber fish, now I use a 1/16 th oz slip sinker a bead then 2 slide on plastic bobberstops to emsure it stays put when casting then 2' then a floating jig tied with maribou dont have to adjust for depth and you can troll with it too, my way maybe not as good as a bobber but.....
About a month ago here in pa the crappie were spawning and man the one day I most of caught 20-25 of them and almost every one was half a lb to 3/4 lb and I think two it the lb range it was crazy
You should hit them with a Horse Fly in Cowpoke on a 1/64th oz mule jig. I caught Largemouth, Bluegill and Black Crappie all on one of your Horse Fly's yesterday.
Yeah it is pretty clear. Honestly that is what most of the small lakes in my area look like! And yeah I imagine you are well ahead of us on timing down south :)
No real slabs but nice fish nonetheless. Nice to see a brief clip of you not wearing your hat. 😎 That bobber looked like the ones with Trout Magnets. Just wondered how much weight you can put under them before it sinks. I look forward to next video.
Didn't get any donkeys but I didn't really expect to. This lake has a lot of similar sized fish (likely due to the pressure of anglers keeping fish). Never really get a chance to out-grow about 12 or 13". And I haven't tested the exact point where the float will pull under. I will need to try that, thank you Dave.
Wow Ethan i think your addicted to ultralight fishing. It looked like all of the rods you had in the kayak were ultralights lol. I usually take a few rods and I try to take 1 ultralight and 1 light even if I'm going fishing for bigger fish just in case. I would much rather catch some smaller fish than nothing. 👊👍
I feel like this is a sign. All of my other panfish plastics were left in my car and are all mangled and melted. Now I have the mule fishing and my zman stuff left. 🤔
As part of slab stories you should fish from the bank. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have a kayak. I've been trying to land a crappie for a while, but I'm not have good success.
If I am able to locate some local bodies of water with good Crappie populations which I can bank fish at, I will definitely do that! Most of my smaller lakes/ponds with bank access are primarily good for bass and sunfish. I will keep my eyes out!
Watching the cork go down is therapy to me. I love your soft plastics. The Mule minnow is my favorite so far.
Thanks so much! Yeah, I love a good float bite. That little twitch of the float and.... BAM, got it! :)
I LOVE the way gills fight. Nothing I’ve caught can beat that watery somersault!
They spiral all around and pull like heck. Love those fish!

Love the sounds of that! I will definitely be doing some tasty tacos one of these days. Just gotta get the freezer supply built up.

Love the crappie vids, keep up the great work.
Thank you Isaac, will do!

Crappie are excellent table fare. Tight lines Shawn :)

Good to know and thanks for the information, I do appreciate it
Man I always love your videos. Inspired me to start fishing UL for more than just trout
Thank you Hunter :) I am so happy to hear that!
Great video! Love the crappie content
Thank you very much Chad!
I love your horsefly, been using it to catch bluegills......gonna have to go for some crappie now!
So happy you are enjoying them! I am really pleased with the design of the HF and the success folks have had on it.
Excellent video
Thank you Don!
Love your videos bro. I am from Nebraska
Thank you! Nebraska probably has some jumbo slabs!
Thanks for the video. 👍
Thanks for watching!
You may doc shooting looks fun from a kayak. I need to find some docs around my place so I can try too. Great video
Honestly this trip made me so excited to shoot docks this summer. I also need to find lakes with good deep docks.
I have only seen white crappie in Allen County IN.
I have caught one or two around here but 99% of Crappie in my area seem to be Black Crappie. Both are great :)
I tried Suffix Nanobraid 4 lb. wind knots and extreme tangles, same as Nanofil back to Trilene XT solar 6 lb.
Interesting... I will keep that in mind as I keep playing with line options.
Sick videos, I just finally subscribed! Have you put any thought into using BFS equipment?
I have used BFS several times and actually own two setups! I like it, but I don't think it really helps me for most of my fishing trips. You can check out several videos on my channel with it by searching "Online Outdoorsman BFS" in the search bar.

That sounds like a great rig too!

Love to hear it! Yeah I have caught several Crappie on the HF. They seem to gobble it up when they are eating insects :)
@@FishAnything crappie I can see because they have those bucket mouths. But the little 4 inch Blue Gill surprised me.
I'm a huge multi species guy who traditionally grew up bass fishing.
You and me both! Sounds like we would have some fun fishing together :)
@@FishAnything no doubt we would!!!!
Do some UL Carp fishing 😂
Might need a net for that one. Just sayin'.
I plan to eventually try it out! Might just fish them from the bank :)
that is one clear lake. our white crappie have already spawnwd

Wow that water. I've never fished anything remotely that clear except for a small stream.
Yeah we have really nice clear water up here. Always fun to see fish :)
Sorry if you've been asked this before, but what kayak is that?
Old Town Sportsman PDL 120!

Lol it is funny how my kayak gear selection has transformed over time. I probably have too many ultralights now.
Crappie areThe best eating
Honestly yes. So good :)
What kind of bobber is that(brand)
Mule Fishing Peg Float 1.25"
Call that a bow and arrow cast when I do it with a tenkara rod.
Another good name for it!
I feel like this is a sign. All of my other panfish plastics were left in my car and are all mangled and melted. Now I have the mule fishing and my zman stuff left. 🤔
Dang I am sorry to hear that! Hope you enjoy the Mule stuff though :)
@@FishAnything well I’m not. It allowed me to use mule fishing plastics. Now I’m hooked!
check under bribges
If there were any bridges on my lakes, I would! That always worked well on reservoirs in Kansas though.
💯🔥💙👍
You da man!

I fish ultra light 95% of the time. I love the fight more then anything.
It is so much dang fun!
👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
:) Hope all is well Dan!
Crappie attack above them. If your float flops over you got a Crappie. Seen it several times.
100% agree. They tend to suspend and look up. Hover your bait in line with them or slightly above and it is game on.
Awwww ur soooo nice... 🤮
Thanks! Not sure I follow what this sarcasm is referring to but I hope you have a great day :)
