      So good to hear! Jess is the key to this new beginning. Amazing musician who totally gets Solstice, is an absolute joy to work with and knows instinctively, as you say, how to take it to the next level. 🥰

    Magnificent! Thank you all for being a very bright light throughout these troubled times with your fine music and videos. I feel so lucky to have stumbled across you down the UA-cam rabbit hole while I was furloughed. Keep on making such wonderful music! I'll see you out there sometime when it's safer, I'm sure.

    Great version! This has always been my favorite Solstice song since I bought the album back in "91.
    Hope someday they could add a big tribal drum jam for the ending (think Ommadawn by Mike Oldfield)....that would be awesome!

    I have always loved this song, especially the final section. Jess has certainly added something of herself to it. Some of her extra vocal flourishes added so much personality. I'm guessing that it was one of her favourite of the older songs? I don't know if it was the mix or if it was done on purpose but the end section was not as punchy as usual but it took nothing from my overall employment and losing myself in the blissful layer of voices. In tears by the final word! Amazing!

      That's beautiful, thank you Andy! Jess has made all the old songs her own and, to my absolute joy, loves them. She completely immerses herself and brings her own unique energy.

    Wow! It’s always been a great song, but somehow Jess manages to make it her own.
    She really feels the music.
    Wish I could’ve got to the UK to your summer gigs. Hopefully next year.
    Thanks to all the band for Sia and all the great vids over the last year or so.

    Jess has put a fantastic stamp on this classic - so evocative and quite mesmerising. The intro and the way she lures you in is just sensational, and Andy's guitar tones sound sublime. I think the lack of 'punch' in the end section mentioned by Andy Patmore below is down to the arrangement. I have to say I prefer the original's epic build of thunderous bass and tom-laden drums. It always gave me chills down the spine and an impulse to chant along, like taking part in some tribal ritual, building to a mighty crescendo. For me, the end section here doesn't have that same emotional pull or epic intensity that makes you want to punch the air and chant to the heavens. I wonder what others think?
    I do feel, overall, that Solstice sound better now than they have for many years, so here's to a hopefully very bright future. All the best!

      Thanks so much! I suspect you and Andy aren't alone in your view of part 2. Our feeling, having played the song from time to time through the 90s and noughties, was that the tribal, communal effect we were going for wasn't really working, so this seemed a good opportunity to try something different. Maybe those unfamiliar with the original feel differently.... to be honest, I don't know. Regardless, the band are full of new creativity, energy and a desire to push forward and Jess, of course, plays a huge role in that. Great to hear this is coming across!

    • @arbonne1805
      @arbonne1805 2 роки тому

      @@solsticeuk I do hope the comments on part 2 didn't come across too negatively. I guess it's a normal reaction for some, when you're so attuned to the arrangement of a much-loved song. The creativity is certainly coming across, and so too is the enthusiasm and a big sprinking of what I felt was a special kind of magic the band had in the earlier days. I've buckled up for the ride, and am really looking forward to following the new chapter in Solstice's journey.

    • @solsticeuk
      @solsticeuk  2 роки тому +1

      @@arbonne1805 Absolutely not! And in any case, constructive criticism is always welcome. I've felt similarly about favourites reimagined... it rarely hits the spot. I've long wanted to rerecord Cheyenne and this version was based on a failed attempt during the Prophecy sessions. We kept the bass, drums and keys for part 1 and although at that point Part 2 was as the original, it just wasn't working for me. So at the beginning of 2020 I used those stems as a kind of audition for Jess. Of course, I loved the result of what was to become an extra for Sia, but with a new part 2. The band all loved the new approach and so there it is for better or worse :) thanks so much for your support! Andy

      @@jimballantine4408 Hi Jim. To your first point, I totally get that. Some of my favourite bands were first incarnations. The second, although probably not not your intention, just makes me feel nauseous. Music’s something that brings us all together whether old like me, or young like Jess. My wife, Jenny our violinist, leads another band (check this link facebook.com/share/A8LUzdhzZHB1sXhL/?mibextid=WC7FNe ) which includes my three children and other families with an even greater age range. It’s amazing!! When she was in Ireland last year our son took over Solstice fiddle duties so, yes, it may seem unusual to some, but making music is a space where we can all be equals and what an incredible privilege and joy it is to work with musicians across the generations. Another clip of Jenny’s band, enjoy ua-cam.com/video/zEj1NTHP3Gs/v-deo.htmlsi=gEJH_A4U24U6dyjD
